I got into it when I was a mental health worker and regularly needed to open lockers/filing cabinets/cash boxes/etc that patients or other staff had misplaced the keys for, and later bought a set of picks (can definitely confirm thats not a good way to go) and some padlocks

will probably try and get a few more picks, tension wrenches and cheap padlocks, never was much good with anything other than the cheapest crap but it was always a fun little puzzle to work on
