In time and space there is but one constant. No, it isn't the evolutionary tendency for creatures to evolve into crabs.... IT'S SPIDERS! (Which are kinda like crabs, really) Does star wars have spiders? You're god drat right it does. How about star Trek? It's got em! One last thing I don't wanna see no regular rear end spiders in here. Your spider better have at least one cool space-y thing about it or else!

I just realized I had made the thread title in the past tense, as if we had at one point appreciated arachnids but we did no longer. I wanna apologize for that misconception.

A Deepness In the Sky has two plots going on. One of them is a pastiche of old science fiction stories staring arachnids. In theory that story is being told by people in the second plot who downplay the spidery bits.

Your basic Arachnid warrior isn't too smart but you can blow off a limb and it's still 86% combat effective. Here's a tip: aim for the nerve stem and put it down for good.

Megarachnids. A race of sentient spiderpeople who were long ago defeated and quarantined to their homeworld by a forgotten offshoot branch of Energy spiders. These guys live in the depths of Kessel spinning webs made of that are mined out and sold across the galaxy as spice. Add more spider to your lady.

I wish they had stayed dead. Not because they're annoying but because I felt that the Tachikomas learning about death, mortality and the meaning of sacrifice was really heartfelt. It was a cop-out to resurrect them after they'd had such a well done character arc just because the series didn't want to give up their cute spider mascots.

I went and checked in on this one and while the spider is CLEARLY giant, which is definitely out of the ordinary for a spider, I can't help but shake the feeling that I'm looking at an ordinary spider that's been placed inside of a very tiny cardboard city!

I mean most cities are tiny and cardboard. It saves a bunch on construction costs. This is clearly a story showing how the cheapness of modern capitalism puts us all at risk of you normal every day giant spider. A good moral.
