The year is AC 432, a period in history after the Calamity, following one of the greatest natural disasters the world has ever known. The destruction caused widespread devastation and loss of life, collapsing economies and entire countries. From the ashes sprung the survivors, eager to rebuild a way of life - but despite this "reset", one thing that cannot be changed is the ever-present greed and lust for power, and the few natural resources that can fuel such needs.

In this "After Calamity" Era, Cordium is one of the most desirable substances on Earth, with conflicts surrounding its acquisition, and military powers rising and falling. As a result, the need for mercenaries has never been higher, and the only limit is how much money the employer is willing to throw at them. Such groups operate on land, sea, and in the air.

The Calamity posted:

The Calamity was a global catastrophe that took place 150 years before the After Calamity Era, documented only by a handful of historical artifacts and records. A cascading geothermal event occurred in the Ring of Fire that led to tectonic disasters that ravaged the planet. Despite the collapse of the world order, humanity itself survived the Calamity and designated a new base zero year for the AC Era.

Disaster
An ignition of recently exposed cordium beneath the surface of Earth caused by unknown circumstances incited more cordium to ignite, resulting in an uncontrolled cascading domino effect of cordium ignitions. The effect on Earth's tectonic plates resulted in volcanic eruptions and powerful earthquakes, primarily within the Ring of Fire. The largest of these was the eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano in North America.

The Calamity devastated human civilization to the point that it was considered an end of an era. Worldwide communications broke down and some nations collapsed. The Yellowstone eruption and its destruction in North America was considered an extinction-level event on that continent. The supervolcano and the Ring of Fire also spewed a volcanic ash cloud that blotted out the sun around the world, ushering in a temporary global ice age referred to as the Long Cold.

Long Cold
The Long Cold is officially considered to have started immediately following the Calamity. Without any sunlight, crops failed and natural fauna perished in many ecosystems, with the known exception of whales, which were forced to evolve with the new conditions in the Pacific Ocean. Millions of people that survived the Calamity itself died in the famine and environmental conditions caused by the Long Cold.

The Calamity caused geothermal fissures to appear around the world. These fissures provided surviving humans who huddled around them with warmth and usable soil. Over time, the survivors reestablished formal international communications and began working towards resuming humanity's path of development, owing to the species' inherent resourcefulness and survival skills. Political relationships were formed around who had the best access to the geothermal fissures.

After Calamity
The Long Cold lasted an estimated 150 years after the Calamity. Once it was determined that the Calamity was no longer a hindrance to human development, a year zero was established to mark the start of what was named the After Calamity Era. The average citizen in the After Calamity Era lives a safe and comfortable life, free from the threat of natural disaster. Cordium was properly studied early in the After Calamity Era, eventually leading to cordium mining in addition to geothermal energy collection.

Remnants of the Calamity still persist worldwide. Tectonic and volcanic activity is still commonplace within the Ring of Fire but mostly localized in certain areas. Local governments treat these areas as exclusion zones. One of the largest is the Yellowstone Exclusion Zone, where most of the territory is unmapped and dangerous geothermal flare-ups continue to occur. To most of the developed world, however, the Calamity is ancient history.

I would prefer it if story/plot spoilers aren't posted - there's a lot of background information that will get posted in lore/update posts that people can delve into on their own, but for those who choose the game's cutscenes for understanding the universe its created, we should respect that :).

For those of you who have never experienced an Ace Combat Game - oof. For those who have, Project Wingman does a great job at fulfilling the same expectations. This means there will be a LOT of action in a cramped cockpit while the player does everything they can to dodge missiles galore and downing entire air forces in an afternoon.

I will give the thread the opportunity to decide whether this will be a MERCENARY difficulty run, or one of MY CHOICE. The biggest reason for this is that, as you might expect, Mercenary Difficulty forces you to be dodging a lot. And I mean a lot - to the point where it can bloat some videos without adding to much substance. This isn't to say the mode sucks, more that its not the version you show the game off as an LP.

Project Wingman - Mission 01

Operation Red Current

Mission 01: Black Flag - AC 432 - January 9th

BLACK FLAG

Task
    - Eliminate Privateers
    - Secure Federation Cargo Ship Meilynx

Sicario
Sicario Mercenary Corps [SCMC]

Units:
    Hitman Team
    AWACS "Galaxy"
The Sicario Mercenary Corps (SCMC), also known as the Sicario Group and Sicario Corp or simply Sicario, was a mid-level mercenary unit. Oriented towards aerial warfare, it was made up of three fighter wings with supporting ground, logistics, and EW units.

Hitman Team
Sicario Mercenary Corps - Pointman Squadron

Members:
    Hitman 1 "Monarch"
    Hitman 2 "Diplomat"
    Hitman 3 "Comic"
    Hitman 4 - Unknown
    Hitman 5 - Unknown
    WSO "Prez"
Hitman was a five-man flight before becoming a three-man one at some point prior to the Meilynx Incident. Focused completely on results and taking their jobs seriously, the squadron's combat capabilities enable them to go toe-to-toe with even the most experienced of fighter pilots. In spite of this, however, they are described as "the runts of the litter" by older pilots like Gunsel 1.

Monarch
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): Hitman 1, Monarch
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Nationality: Cascadian
Signature Plane: F/D-14
Voice Actor: N/A

Little is known of Monarch's background, other than shortly after Peter Kennedy and Evelyn London left Cascadia and joined Sicario, he followed them in, and they all became members of Hitman Team. He then participated in multiple operations that Sicario recorded, including the Good Hope Dispute, the Sinking of the City on a Lake, Operation New History, and the Hunt for the Maester. At one point, he agreed to an arrangement that whoever scored the most kills in a battle got to buy dinner for the rest of the squadron.

Diplomat
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): Hitman 2, Diplomat
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Nationality: Cascadian
Signature Plane: MG-29
Voice Actor: Ben Balmaceda

Peter Kennedy, callsign Hitman 2/Diplomat, is a member of Sicario's Hitman Team. A man born of privilege, he foregone it to pursue his love of flying, but was rebellious to expectation and chose to forge his own path. His TAC name was apparently chosen by others, being a quip at his upbringing whose connection to which he vehemently denies.

Comic
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): Hitman 3, Comic
Age: Unknown
Sex: Female
Nationality: Cascadian
Signature Plane: F/C-15
Voice Actor: Mikell Dover

Evelyn London III, callsign Hitman 3/Comic, is a member of Sicario's Hitman Team and a former member of the Cascadian Air Force. Proficient in air combat, she yearns for the fight of her life, with nobody getting in her way; it should be noted her TAC name is a leftover from a "slightly funnier" personality.

Prez
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): President, Prez
Age: Unknown
Sex: Female
Nationality: Federal
Signature Plane: N/A
Voice Actor: Madeline Dorroh

Robin Kuo, TAC name President, is a Hitman Team crew chief and the weapon systems officer of Monarch, its leader. She is famous within Sicario as the only WSO capable of sustaining Monarch's flying style, albeit barely, and comes from a family in the Federation Core States.

Galaxy
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): Galaxy
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Nationality: Federal
Signature Plane: FC-8
Voice Actor: Kyle Quibell

AWACS Galaxy is the callsign of Sicario's AWACS. Its operator is Dominic Zaitsev, Sicario's second-in-command. Notably, a mercenary AWACS is a rarity, even among smaller regular militaries, and he lacks the usual prior military training that AWACS operators usually undergo.

[NO IMAGE FOUND]
Kaiser
Real Name: Unknown
Callsign(s): Assassin 1, Kaiser
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Nationality: Unknown
Signature Plane: Unknown
Voice Actor: Haven Kendrick

Commander Arnold Frenken, TAC name Kaiser, is the leader of Sicario and its flagship air unit, Assassin Team. A glory seeker, he has been on an unending pursuit for fame and glory and a spot in history, his most notable and successful venture being Sicario.

Jesta Island Chain

The Jesta Island Chain is a series of islands located in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of the Creole Republic, one of many.

At least five islands located in the southwestern edge constitute the whole chain; three are located at and near Fort Daggerpoint, a developed resort island with two smaller adjacent islands, while the other two - a smaller and larger one adjacent to each other - are located southeast and completely undeveloped. The island group is battered by bad weather.

The island chain had been developing well economically for decades up until at some point before AC 432 when its main source of wealth, Fort Daggerpoint, fell into disrepair and was taken over by local privateering groups. It switched hands between legal and pirate control over time. The Creole government attempted to establish a number of forts and bases around the islands but failed repeatedly, the costly endeavor driving them into appealing for membership in the Pacific Federation.

The Burlok Privateers turned Fort Daggerpoint into their HQ, but were quickly driven and wiped out; in the process, however, Fort Daggerpoint was devastated by a cordium explosion, and much of it became inhospitable.

[NO IMAGE FOUND]

Burlok Privateers

The Burlok Privateers were a notorious mercenary group that turned to piracy. They made their money by taxing ships that got near their units under threat of theft and kidnapping. Their headquarters was Fort Daggerpoint on the Jesta Island Chain in the Caribbean Sea, which was undiscovered for a while.

Cascadia

Cascadia, officially United Cascadia,[1] is a nation that comprises of the whole North American Pacific seaboard, all the way to the former Baja Sea area. it is one of the largest countries in the world and is famous for its abundant geothermal resources.

The Pacific Federation

The Pacific Federation, also simply the Federation, is a world superpower comprised of the coasts of western North America and the Asia-Pacific region. It holds large geothermal and cordium resources and practices a policy of constant expansion, using either (or a combination of) military and political force.

Creole Republic

The Creole Republic is a small nation near the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

The republic once had an age of expansion. Being in the Periphery, it lacks geothermal resources, and its coasts are under constant threat from pirates and privateers. Efforts to contain such incursions have failed over time and put a strain on the nation's finances. Hence, they planned to accede into the Pacific Federation in exchange for their protection. If the country ever vassalized, it would be the first Federation state in the Caribbean and the Atlantic.

On December 9, AC 431, the nation's Minister of Defense hired Sicario for a period of about a month. Their sorties had been minimal, however. A month later, the Burlok Privateers hijacked a Federation cargo ship carrying cordium for the Federation Department of Global Energy and Sustainability. Sicario, on the last day of its contract, was tasked to either retrieve or destroy the cordium. The mission ended with the latter option chosen, although the cordium exploded, and was covered up as the Meilynx Incident.

The Creole Republic stayed neutral during the Cascadian Conflict, but it is likely that after the end of the war, they dropped their membership application for the Federation due to the international reactions against the Federation's heinous actions.

Government and politics
Creole is a republic with at least a number of ministers, including the Minister of Defense.

Military
The republic has at least a sizable military given its past expansion and repeated attempts to establish bases on its islands.[1]

Economy
The economy was heavily strained in its decades of maintaining and slipping control of its islands, bad enough that it attempted to join the Federation.[1]

Geography
The country appears to be mostly desert based on its given geography aside from its clusters of green islands, including the Jesta Island Chain.

Ronin
Sicario Mercenary Group - Special Operations Forces [SCMC-SOF]

Units:
    Alpha Team
    Bravo Team
Ronin is the callsign of Sicario's 20-man special operations group. They are led by Captain Kelleher and work together with other Sicario elements.

The T/F-4 is a two-seater trainer aircraft based on the F/E-4. It lacks most of the special armaments of the original version, but remains capable of carrying eight UGBLs (large unguided bombs). It is one of the starting aircraft of Project Wingman. Its only skin is a jet-black body with mercenary, Monarch, and Prez emblems.

Weapons
  • Empty
  • Unguided Bombs - Large

SKAVERAT

The BC-4S is a floatplane. Its only paint scheme is one of jungle camouflage, and its rather lackluster armament being a single machine gun.

  • Callsign: Skaverat
  • Aircraft: BC-4S Floatplane
  • Mission: Black Flag

Notes - Appears during Black Flag on Mercenary difficulty only. This aircraft is armed with a CIWS instead of an AA gun.

PANIC 1 & AKUMATI

The Sk.37 Decimator-B is a prototype aircraft. Compared to the older Sk.27 that it improves on at a high cost, it has significantly improved maneuverability and two more hardpoints, but sacrifices all air-to-ground special weapons (albeit adding an option for Medium Gunpods in their place). In general, it has the weakest arsenal of all of the prototypes, and should be ideally used only for air-to-air battles.

    Callsign: Panic 1
    Aircraft: Sk.37 Decimator-B
    Mission: Black Flag

Notes - Appears in Black Flag on Mercenary difficulty only.

    Callsign: Akumati

#F01 - Creole Republican
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

A Periphery nation which sustains itself as a port of call in the Atlantic, it has recently seen fit to pursue association status with the Federation, hoping that their protection would stymy the ever-present pirate and privateer threat which exists off its coasts. If it vassalizes, the Creole Republic would be the Federation's first Atlantic state. Nations of their size make up the majority of world governments.

#F02 - Burlok Privateers
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

The Burlok Privateers were a "pay-to-play" privateer group which made money by extracting taxes out of passing ships at the threat of kidnapping and piracy. Stationed at a now-abandoned offshore resort, the Burlok's sustained notoriety was to be their downfall, like many criminal groups, facing off against militant mercenaries like Sicario. Groups like them are not unfamiliar in this world, if not common along the Periphery.

#F03 - Sicario
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

A mid-sized mercenary unit with a skew toward aerial operations, Sicario is comprised of three combat jet wings, with supporting ground force, electronic warfare, and logistical elements. Compared to most units of its size, turnover is very low, hinting toward Sicario's veterancy compared to their peers. Operating away from the influence of political superpowers in the Periphery, Sicario is constantly searching for an undefinable big break, cutting a swath through defense jobs and strategic strikes for cash. It is unknown who or how Sicario was made; however, Kaiser's ownership of Sicario comes after several prior disastrous contracts in years past.

#F04 - Mercenaries
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Guns for hire, fighters without a cause, and private soldiers throughout the world are common, if not on the decline due to pressure from the current political superpowers. Available to nations in the Periphery as a stand-in for their own militaries, or hired for more non-governmental affairs such as territory raiding or bounty hunting, mercenaries range from common soldiers to electronic warfare specialists, all in it for the bottom line.

#W01 - Meilynx Incident
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

The Federation Department of Global Energy and Sustainability office reports that the Meilynx was lost with all hands following the mishandling of cargo by private contractors. Images attached of detonation area.

#W02 - After Calamity Era
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

After the Long Cold and the reestablishment of formal international communications, the surviving nations of the world organized and currently maintain a base year zero for the continuing development of the human race in this period, named "After Calamity," which established its year zero after determinations that mankind has resumed its developmental path unaffected by the Calamity. The average citizen of this world lives a comfortable, safe life, ranging from metropolitan to rural, typically with little discomfort originating from the natural world.

#W03 - Cordium
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

A crystallized combination of dielectric materials, native metals, and still yet to be understood anomalous compositions churned up in the crucible that is the Deep Earth Mantle, cordium is one of the most crucial energy resources in the AC Era. Cordium was properly studied only when humanity returned to its pre-Calamity development level. Stories during the immediate post-apocalypse filled with stories of dangerously reactive rocks and formations, singlehandedly powering abandoned facilities in proximity that survived the immediate disasters, as if haunted by powers beyond understanding.

#W04 - Jesta Island Chain
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Situated off the coast of the Creole Republic, this island chain's prospective economic developments throughout the decades have been usurped by pirates recently.

#P01 - Hitman 2 "Diplomat"
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Son to a Cascadian political dynasty, Diplomat has elevated himself from the underperforming middle child to a well-rounded pilot after eloping from the Federation Air Academy and striking it out on his own in the Periphery. Having survived long enough in Sicario to be Hitman's number two, his homebrew flight style and generally amiable personality has served him well in the cutthroat world of mercenary piloting. Despite his record, however, it is known that Diplomat doesn't do well when he's in over his head. His callsign is a jab at his somewhat privileged upbringings, which he vehemently denies any association to currently.

#P02 - Hitman 3 "Comic"
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Born into a family of immigrant workers from a lesser-developed North American state, after moving into Cascadia's Pacific Northwest, the woman that would become Hitman 3 aspired to greatness beyond her rural lifestyle. Scoring top marks in the Federation Air Academy, she was fast-tracked to squadron commander in Cascadia's national guard. Unfortunately, she was removed from her command after an operation gone wrong. Disappearing into the Periphery disgraced, she now is in the service of Sicario and Hitman Team. Her callsign is a vestige of a former personality, one that was, allegedly, a little more funny.

#P03 - Assassin 1 "Kaiser"
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Little is known outright about Kaiser; however, it is known that he used to be part of a military of a now-failed nation-state, and that Sicario pre-existed his own entry into the unit. What is known about Kaiser is that his form of charisma is derived from his very essence as a self-proclaimed war hero-to-be. Many in Sicario often consider his leadership of Sicario as a way of him searching for glory. Despite this fanciful claim, Sicario has operated effectively and cleanly, avoiding the ire of the Federation while taking on jobs away from the world's superpowers. Never one to back down from a show, he entertains.

#P04 - AWACS "Galaxy"
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

A rarity amongst even smaller national militaries, AWACS Galaxy is the callsign for Sicario's main operator. Outspoken, loud, proud, and a foil to Kaiser's bombast, Galaxy was himself a former radio engineer and radio DJ; however, several bad decisions and a binding contract has attached his fate to Kaiser now. Unfortunately, Kaiser has realized that Galaxy is stuck with him as opposed to the other way around, and the operator has found himself Sicario's de facto second-in-command. Existing outside of the usual, prior military training that AWACS operators usually come from, he is initially grating for former service pilots, but his straight to the point, if not colorful, updates keep Sicario well ahead of the enemy.

#P05 - Hitman 1 WSO "President"
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

The other Hitman 1: Monarch's occasional copilot's claim to fame is that she is able to keep up with Monarch. Responsible for taking shots that Monarch calls while in aircraft that necessitate two pilots, she is, if anything, just the slightest more talkative than Monarch, and is a welcome addition among Hitman 2 and 3.

#P06 - Master Goose Squadron
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

An independent, freelance mercenary squadron. Records from public sources denote a respectable combat record, if not plain, compared to Sicario.

#P07 - SOG Ronin
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Special Operations Group Ronin is a subsection of Sicario's ground force. Special forces soldiers that act in concert with Sicario's assets, their arrival with Sicario in the Cascadian Conflict has provided the Independence Force with a search-and-rescue unit meant to relieve embattled divisions behind enemy lines. They swear themselves to Kaiser for reasons unelaborated by them.

#P08 - Hitman Team
Unlocked in Mission 01 - Black Flag

Sicario's point squadron, they are, in their current iteration, a three-man flight. No-nonsense, results-getting, and able to duke it out with even the most seasoned fighters, their existence in the mercenary world is considered a fluke. Their relative closeness when compared to the rest of their mercenary compatriots in Sicario is also of note. Some speculate this is from their shared experience as Sicario's only Cascadians. Further speculate that Hitman is searching for something in their mercenary travels. Hitman declines to comment on any of these claims.

Agree with 3rd person camera and no mercenary mode needed, unless you want to make alternate videos about how ridiculous it gets.

You probably are aware of this already, but just in case, if you want to hear all of the copilot dialog without having a limited aircraft selection there's a mod that makes them all count as two-seaters.

3rd person please, i would like to see planes whooshing all around cinematically, not just flashing red boxes around some shapes that are mostly obscured by the cockpit

it was hard for me to judge (because first person), but mercenary difficulty seemed like A Bit Too Much, so i'm leaning towards not that

Love this game. Has some big flaws, of course. One that is just a personal thing is that I played the first mission or two when I was on the tail end of my covid isolation while my wife had to take our youngest to a children's hospital where he was being diagnosed with epilepsy, so that always sticks with me when I'm trying to get back into this.

Missiles having a more realistic trajectory was a fun surprise when first playing it.

I agree with using 3rd person camera and generally avoiding Mercenary.

The game having independent first and third-person FOV sliders was a really wonderful choice. I think I had first person POV at like 115 or something - much wider than I usually do - and it was really good. I don't know what yours is set to but try widening it out, it works really well. Might change a few people's opinions on first vs third, especially when you get a plane with a slightly less claustrophobic canopy. High-visiblity the F-4 is not.

i have screenshots but they're all spoiler-laden to the extreme so uh, I won't post those :v:

Third person and NOT Mercenary. These games are all about watching cool planes take out an entire army without breaking a sweat, not watching a HUD while you turn in a circle for 15 minutes to avoid missiles.

Gideon020

The only reason to play Mercenary is for the intro to that one mission, lol. And yeah, 3rd Person all the way.

Shei-kun

Screw you, physics!
I'd say only show of Mercenary when it adds something significant to the mission (like extra dialogue/cutscenes), which is something it apparently does at least once according to what I'm reading in this thread. I have not played this game, but it's in my Steam library waiting for me to get a VR headset.

Also, third person is my vote as well, with the addendum that you do show off the first person view any time you use a new plane.

That was a lot of things flying around in that mission, and I don't mean planes. Were those ships firing clusters of missiles at you?!

FRONTIERS

Task
    - Cross into Cascadian Territory
    - Establish Contact with Independence Force

War has broken out between Cascadia and the Federation on the North American continent. After the successful conclusion of Sicario's contract with the Creole Republic, notably with the destruction of the Meilynx and its cordium cargo, their attention turned towards this new source of income, and towards the Federation's bid for access to Cordium deposits within Cascadia's territory.

He was the Independence Force HQ liaison assigned to be the handler of the mercenaries during the Cascadian Conflict. He was among the Cascadian National Guard elements who advocated for open war against the Pacific Federation for independence, and is viewed accordingly by some.

Yellowstone Exclusion Zone

The eruption of the supervolcano, the largest one in the Calamity, spread volcanic ash across the entire North American continent, triggering the Long Cold in the process. Over the next six centuries, the eruption's remnants would fade away, replaced by sprawling wilderness. The nation of Cascadia at some point imposed the exclusion zone due to latent unmapped territory and dangerous occasional geothermal flareups, though they built energy-generating facilities over various locations in the zone, including on the Apodock Fracture, one of the zone's more stable fractures.

Cascadia

History

Cascadia was formed just before the start of the After Calamity Era to normalize relations along the Western Seaboard, having suffered a lot of internal strife between city-based and regional factions. Its founding cities included Presidia, Prospero, and Solstitium. Little is known of its history over the next 400 years, although it is known they had hostile relations with the Dustlands for an unknown period of time.

Cascadia became an associate member of the Pacific Federation in AC 382 and worked with them in a number of endeavors, including dealing with the first artificial exclusion zone in Solstitium and helping them win the Oceanian War. However, when the Federation began using Cascadian resources to expand by conquest in recent years, Cascadia sought to withdraw its Federation membership, leading to the Cascadian Conflict where the nation collapsed into infighting between pro- and independence/anti-Federation factions.

Government and politics

The formal signature of the official government is the "Free and Civil Government of Cascadia."

The government, in its early days, had to quell factional infighting and maintain unity by establishing large military bases. It used its capital to link up the Periphery and the rest of the world as well as flow world commerce in and out, and is centered around the Port Authority Building. They also maintained a sparse amount of rules with the Federation and, before the Cascadian Conflict, worked with them to support less fortunate countries worldwide. Perhaps similar to the Federation's state-sponsored Icarus Armories, the government has a binding contract with munitions companies such as Cascadian National Industries to manufacture war machines, oddly including the Mercenary Cabal-originated ACG-01 Chimera, and was presumably given leeway to manufacture them in case they went to war. They have firefighting and park service departments as well as an airliner company for economic activities.

The country had mediocre relations with the Federation prior to the conflict, perhaps because it was never completely federalized beforehand nor did it bring them into the hands of enmity. This was not always the case, however, as a tax scandal in AC 429 involving a Federation billionaire did not end in Cascadian governmental favor. Compared to the Federation, the international community receives it more positively, mainly due to its direct interaction with Periphery countries at its own capital, to the point a lot of them chose to support their cause for independence if only verbally despite its misgivings with its border communities' constant conflict with the Dustlands, especially with Cascadia potentially becoming another superpower. Its old Pillars of Communications project, previously built in cooperation with the Federation, was turned against the disloyal via the Solana Communications Array.

Military

The Cascadian National Guard serves as a mainly defensive military force, having only one offensive operation under its belt in the Oceanian War. However, before the Cascadian Conflict, it was described as large enough to stand decently against the Federation itself in a hypothetical conflict. It is comprised of an Army, Coast Guard (Navy equivalent), and Air Force. Because of extreme damage from both the Cascadian Conflict and resultant split, it expanded to include the Cascadian Foreign Legions, an organized mercenary corps

Economy

Cascadia is described as the most powerful nation in the Western Hemisphere, and has huge resource output that rose by a third during its time associated with the Federation. This, however, created a state of inequality; a lot of Cascadians are urbanites in the more populated regions, while the wildernesses have tribal groups and families still living off the land and living in isolated compounds. Its tourism industry is sizeable, with main attractions including its numerous forests, enhanced by it standing in contrast to other large nations' mass urbanization and industrialization.

The trade port of Prospero was once the largest transportation and commerce hub in the continent, taking in naval and aerial traffic from the Scarred Sea and elsewhere and being considered the world's busiest airport. Not only Prospero, but aerial trade routes such as the Zhirov Air Corridor, connected to global ones, account for more than 15% of daily worldwide commerce and travel. Cascadia has a sizeable agricultural industry likewise, with winery centered around the Salvemini Vineyards and fishing sourced from the Scarred Sea and the Bering Strait through fishermen gathering king crabs, though having to contend with rival Federation fishermen for the net.

The Cascadian economy was troubled to some extent by stringent Federation taxes, which led to high prices on at least some luxury goods, to the point bits of infrastructural development were shut down solely to counteract them. In addition, its rich resources made it an interest to Federation Core States, which is constantly starved for energy. It was perhaps extremely hit hard by the carnage of the Cascadian Conflict and needed a lot of reconstruction to get back on its feet.

Geography

Because of the country's large amount of deposits, there are various exclusion zones dotted around the country, most prominently Exclusion Zone 3A and the Yellowstone Exclusion Zone, which the government had created a zone around to safeguard against geothermal events. It is divided between a large "island" section in the continental midwest, and had, for a long time, retained ecological stability with careful environmental planning. In general, the country has snowy tundra to the north and deserts to the south, giving an incredibly diverse climate while being simultaneously sustainable, in stark contrast to other large countries such as the Federation. More than a quarter of its energy is generated by the Apodock Fracture alone, one of Yellowstone's more stable fractures.

The northern coasts contain plenty of remnants from the Calamity and have geothermal hotspots and thunderstorms all over, but its countryside is primarily dotted by numerous forests maintained well enough to establish Cascadia as a place of natural marvels. The Golden Ocean's existence as a body of water surrounded by risen landmasses around the capital even gave it a mythical reputation as a place of gold, attracting treasure hunter wannabes. People even take to establishing artificial waterborne rigs and homes in the Scarred Sea.[19] Because of the Pillars of Communications project, three-kilometer-long towers can be seen all across Cascadia, giving a distinctive mark on the landscape.

Culture

The country has its own language completely unrelated to English itself, which is still primarily used as a means of communication. It has a religion centered around the Dust Mother deity, along with some related books. While in the Federation, it took part in at least some festivals such as the Wine and Dine Showdown at the Khan's Castle.

The T-21 is a basic trainer aircraft. While the two aircraft share the same performance, the T-21 is stripped of the MG-21's bombs and special missiles, only carrying fuel tanks as improvised bombs.

PARA TEAM

The Sk.30 is a fighter jet used by the Pacific Federation.

  • Callsign: Para 1, Para 2
  • Aircraft: Sk.30
  • Mission: Frontiers

Notes - Appears in Mission 02 on Mercenary Difficulty only. Capable of using the AOA Limiter.

OICLID TEAM

The Sk.37 Decimator-B is a prototype aircraft. Compared to the older Sk.27 that it improves on at a high cost, it has significantly improved maneuverability and two more hardpoints, but sacrifices all air-to-ground special weapons (albeit adding an option for Medium Gunpods in their place). In general, it has the weakest arsenal of all of the prototypes, and should be ideally used only for air-to-air battles.

    Callsigns: Oiclid 1, Oiclid 2
    Aircraft: Sk.37 Decimator-B
    Mission: Frontiers

Notes - Two members appear in Frontiers on Mercenary difficulty only

Eagle - 00001

    Aircraft: F/C-15
    Mission: Frontiers

Notes - Appears in Frontiers on Mercenary difficulty only.

Enforcer X

The F/S-15 is a highly maneuverable prototype fighter. It has slightly more weapon options than the Sk.37 Decimator-B due to being able to carry bombs, though has some of the best maneuverability.

    Callsign: Enforcer X
    Aircraft: F/S-15
    Mission: Frontiers

Notes - Appears in Frontiers on Mercenary difficulty only.

SCOUTMASTER TEAM

The F/E-4 is a starter-level two-seat strike aircraft. While its mobility is mediocre in most respects (other than roll rate), it can carry a modest payload of air-to-air missiles along with a choice of bombs or Heavy Gunpods.

    Callsign: Scoutmaster 1, Scoutmaster 2, Scoutmaster 3
    Aircraft: F/E-4
    Mission: Frontiers

Notes - Appears in Frontiers on Mercenary difficulty only.

#F05 - United Cascadia
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

Formed just prior to the AC Era by the need to normalize relations across the Western American Seaboard, officially United Cascadia, often referred to just Cascadia, is the strongest nation in the north Western Hemisphere. Sandwiched between the site of the Yellowstone volcano and the eastern edge of the Ring of Fire, it has been graced by geothermal deposits and cordium, which, while in association status with the Federation, increased output by a third. Because of this wealth and abundance, United Cascadia rivals the Federation, and up until recent history, maintain lukewarm relations with the Federation.

#W05 - Oceania War
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

Oceania, withdrawing its Federation membership after heightened strains on its geothermal deposits by the Federation, was invaded. Citing internal security and stability threats, the Federation occupied Oceania, only to meet intense resistance of national Oceanian units and foreign fighters. The war remains one of the first "modern" conflicts in the AC Period, and is cited heavily in the current Federation military doctrine.

#W06 - Yellowstone Containment Zone
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

The most massive eruption of the Calamity, the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano created an immediate extinction-level event on the North American continent while simultaneously ushering in the Long Cold. In this period, the remains of the eruption are nil, with sprawling wilderness covering most of the continent east of the designated "containment" zone. Current Cascadian legislation maintains a buffer zone around the area due to its latent unmapped territory and dangerous geothermal flareups that occasionally happen in the area.

#W07 - The Calamity
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

According to sparse historical artifacts and recordkeeping, the Calamity was a tectonic super-disaster stemming from a geothermal cascade event throughout the Pacific Ring of Fire. The subsequent eruption of volcanoes and devastating earthquakes rocked humanity to its core and, in direct interpretation, ended an era of civilization. Remnants of the Calamity exist along the Ring of Fire in exclusion zones, where tectonic activity and volcanoes remain commonplace. However, to most of the developed world, the Calamity is ancient history.

#W08 - Cascadian Region
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

Comprising the whole North American Pacific Seaboard, all the way down to the former Baja Sea, mainland Cascadia is the detached "island" portion mid-continent. With snowy tundra to its north to blistering deserts in its south, Cascadia comprises an entire hemisphere of climate and, given careful planning, has remained ecologically stable. Many tourists to Cascadia denote that, unlike the megacities of the Federation or elsewhere, Cascadia is a natural jewel. Completely sustainable in its resources, Cascadia can, and hopes, to maintain its independence in a changing world.

#P09 - Stardust / J. Griffiths
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

A Cascadian National Guard officer and pilot. In the course of the Cascadian Conflict, he has been assigned as the handler for the mercenaries that answered Cascadia's call, much to his chagrin. Fundamentally, he disagrees with mercenaries. However, the war which has come to Cascadia has forced pragmatics out of him. He was among the outspoken caste in the Cascadian National Guard which many believe propelled Cascadia into the war, and is treated accordingly by some.

#P10 - Gunsel Squadron
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

Sicario's primary mainline squadron, commanded by a former Federation Air Academy instructor, they provide the main, conventional warfare aspect of Sicario compared to Hitman or Assassin.

#P11 - Assassin Team
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

Sicario's flagship aerial unit, commanded by Kaiser himself in the air. Their shock and awe style is meant to inspire fear against their targets, and are often deployed in this intimidation factor.

#P12 - Crosstalk Squadron
Unlocked in Mission 02 - Frontiers

A secondary Federation squadron, among many of the mainline units not charged with active warfighting at the start of the Cascadian Conflict. Squadrons like Crosstalk are meant to shore up other units as frontline losses are sustained.

T-21 Aircraft Information

The T-21's model year was originally AC 369 in v1.00 and its manufacturer given as Magadan Defense, but was patched out for unknown reasons.

the appearance of the first huge plane, for me, is the moment where the setting actually feels different from current earth. sure, they've got maps showing that a bunch of the land is missing, and they're talking about nations that don't exist, but until you see that big plane it just feels like earth with a coat of paint on it. but now it's different! we can't really make planes like that, clearly something new and different is going on, hooray!

I really like that they bring the nuclear-like material in mission one and the nuclear-like material powered giant plane in mission two, it's refreshingly fast to get it out the door while you're getting a handle on how to control the game and how it wants you to do that.

Yeah its like I said my main gripe is just that they didnt get a proper intro, so this flying fortress just appears and then, eithout much fanfare, is taken out.

Aside from being annoying in packs, they suffer from hitbox issues depending on your positions relative to eachother.

At least they dont have some form of force field that could instakill you!

HOMESTEAD

Task
    - Establish a Mercenary Base of Operations

War has broken out between Cascadia and the Federation on the North American continent. After the successful conclusion of Sicario's contract with the Creole Republic, notably with the destruction of the Meilynx and its cordium cargo, their attention turned towards this new source of income, and towards the Federation's bid for access to Cordium deposits within Cascadia's territory.

With the transfer of Sicario forces into Cascadian territory, complete support is being thrown behind the defending nation against expansionist Federation troops. On the 4th of February 432, Cascadian and Sicario forces led an attack on Rowsdower AFB to reclaim territory lost at the start of the conflict, and to establish a base for the mercenary group.

The Sicario Mercenary Corps (SCMC), also known as the Sicario Group and Sicario Corp or simply Sicario, was a mid-level mercenary unit. Oriented towards aerial warfare, it was made up of three fighter wings with supporting ground, logistics, and EW units. Unlike most other mercenary units of its size, Sicario's turnover rate was incredibly low, perhaps owing to its veterancy. They conducted their contracts out of superpower influence in the Periphery, and searched for an unknown big break.

Rowsdower Air Force Base

Overview

The base featured 14 hangars in total; nine regular-sized ones and five larger ones. Two C/T-17s were parked and five fuel tanks were present, along with what appeared to be adjacent tenement housing for the inhabitants. There was also dedicated space for cargo, probably offloaded from both ships and planes.

History

Rowsdower was once used by both the Cascadian National Guard and the Pacific Federation. Due to its remoteness and isolated location, the facility was reserved for tertiary units or misfit personnel.

During the Cascadian Conflict, the Federation forcibly seized the base, but the Cascadian Independence Force and their mercenaries expelled them in turn and shot down the defending assigned squadron.
