Love how the other part of this API thing is that NSFW content won’t be in the API so you have to use the official app if you want porn.

They definitely cannot pick a message between: 1) third party apps are leeches and we want to kill them off 2) this is a reasonable price for API access

I secretly believe that if Apollo popped up a dialog that said “at the new Reddit API pricing of $0.24 per 1,000 requests, your cost last month would have been $X”, the $X would be under $1 for most users.

Panic! At The Tesco posted:not even a year, it's already mostly back to normal by the looks of things The second half of this is all the third party apps actually shutting down on June 30. After the protest people just went back to using Apollo I’m sure but they only have a week left of that.

Panic! At The Tesco posted:so did the protest work? is reddit dead now? It “worked” in that it made the people running Reddit look even worse. But at the end of the day you can’t have a strike from inside the factory because they’ll just kick you out and that’s basically what Reddit did.

I’m surprised they haven’t strong-armed r/BestOf yet. Still locked down with no content. https://reddit.com/r/bestof

Khanstant posted:Was excited for RiF to stop working and then I'd uninstall but it just... Keeps working like normal? Idgi I guess the Reddit API was free and so they didn’t have anyone’s payment details, and they can’t just start charging people without them agreeing to the terms, so I suppose it’s up to Reddit to kill the API keys if the developers don’t.

TIL if you try to open an RSS feed on an iPhone, it shows you a custom message offering to search the App Store for an RSS reader.

I paid for the Alien Blue app once, and that got me four years of Reddit Gold in 2016 when Reddit bought it and shut it down. I think that gave me monthly coins which I never once spent. So, apparently I have 22,700 coins that will now be officially worthless, rather than de facto worthless.

Between losing Twitter and Reddit, honestly hard to keep up with some niche topics. So I do still have bookmarks to a couple of subreddits but I am not logged in. I am not installing their app.
