If no one has suggested it already, I propose: Lance Lance. Our enemies cannot figure out what we're doing if we can't either!

Some of the votes are really close. There's still plenty of time to influence things. Edit: Well, I say 'plenty of time' but I need to start work on the new 'Mech sheets, sprites, and getting new Mechwarriors designed for the next vote, so the polls will be closing sometime tomorrow. So not much time at all, get your votes in while you can! PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 20:55 on Apr 12, 2024 |

A chameleon Black Knight. That's... certainly something. An alpha strike with that one is going to cook the pilot. 49 heat standing still with 32 dissipation.

An Alpha Strike with any Black Knight will cook the pilot, it's not a 'Mech designed to do that.

More realistically you'll probably use either the cluster of long-range weapons or the cluster of short-range weapons. If the enemy is more than 6 tiles away you might as well commit to the PPC and Large Lasers. If they're in close spreadshot the poo poo out of them with your medium lasers, maybe a large pulse if you have enough heat left over.

Having most of my battletech experience in mwo and the other shooters, actual bracket builds throw me for a loop. It makes sense since range is harder to control in tabletop though.
|
# ? Apr 17, 2024 00:04 |

Yeah tabletop being turn-based makes bracket builds a lot more logical to run, it's when you're controlling them directly in realtime situations where the concept breaks down. The difference between being able to calmly select what guns to fire a la carte at a table and having to juggle weapon groups on the fly while getting shot at.

I'll be honest, I cap at two weapon groups. Any more and I just can't handle trying to pick between them. The best I can handle is a group for long and a group for short. Incidentally this is how many buttons the average mouse has

The Chameleon Light Polarization Shield only takes up six slots. I've always assumed the hit locations were holocameras/holoprojectors since the Chameleon LPS is described as breaking up the 'Mech's outline rather than being full on Predator cloaking. That's just my personal headcannon though, there's no guarantee that's how the system actually works. PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 06:13 on Apr 17, 2024 |

Does the baffled heat sinks quirk mean it won't show up on thermals?

In an alternate universe Baffled Heat Sinks is a negative quirk that replaces your overheat display with a bunch of ???s

Sarna doesn't even have an entry for them, how do they work mechanically? The mech doesn't show up on thermals?
|
# ? Apr 17, 2024 16:36 |
|
It's a custom 'Mech quirk. No mechanical effect in combat. If the 'Mech doesn't have any engine damage, it reduces the chance that that 'Mech can be detected out of combat. They basically count as hidden for the purposes of enemy patrols, even if they're not powered down.

Seems like a great way to consistently ambush other lances.

Every 'Mech with them picked up the 'difficult to maintain' quirk. The baffling doesn't make them invisible, it just dulls the obvious hotspots. Anyone paying attention would still notice the ambient temperature differential. Edit: Basically, it turns every unit equipped with it into a hangar queen. Special Forces (and the Commando scout lance you didn't pick) were spec-ops setups, which meant special toys for stealth operations; but their turnaround between fights is extended. Fortunately, pretty much all of the Battle Lance setups cover that weakness. PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 20:48 on Apr 17, 2024 |
