Just use the start day as a cutoff point and add a slot for “not currently on NHL team”. Anyone available for an NHL FA contract could be taken in that slot.

Furnace has until noon, right?

Jordan7hm

I think Furnace is skipped, in which case the Quebec Bulldogs select Jason Robertson, who seems pretty good.

I guess I’ll take the ridiculously good 23 year old defenseman.

Quebec selects Quinn Hughes.

Jordan7hm

I feel like I had to check a couple times to make sure this guy was still available.

The Quebec Bulldogs will take Mika Zibanejad as our top line center.

Robertson - Zibanejad - ?

Hughes - ?

The Quebec Bulldogs will go ahead and pick one of my favorite ever players. With our fourth selection we’ll grab Erik Karlsson.

Don’t care what the salary is, don’t care how old he is. He’s still a transformative offensive player, and changes the dynamics every time he’s on the ice. Him and Quinn will make for a wild pairing, or more likely a great 1-2 punch.

Robertson - Zibanejad - ?

Hughes - Karlsson

I feel like considering they both play "give me the puck" transition styles you may want to just have two game-breaker D on each pair. Otherwise, anytime one of them has the puck the other doesn't and you're getting less value kinda.

Yeah it’s the Karlsson / Burns pairing problem. You can’t have two guys who drive the bus.

Would make for a fun PP though.

23 year old near PPG center on an otherwise kinda bleh roster? Works for me.

The Bulldogs take Robert Thomas.

Robertson - Zibanejad - ?
? - Thomas - ?

Hughes - ?
? - Karlsson

I thought about a couple different options here, and would have taken Fiala if he dropped, but as it stands I’m going to take a goaltender. Despite only being a starter for one season, he’s probably the best goalie available and better than a number of the ones already selected. Or not, who knows, goalies are voodoo. I think he’s for real though.

Anyway, the Bulldogs select Alexander Georgiev.

Robertson - Zibanejad - ?
? - Thomas - ?

Hughes - ?
? - Karlsson

Georgiev

There’s another guy on this team I thought about taking instead, but I just really like Sam Reinhart.

In his prime, good scoring ability, consistently great fancies. He can play center or jump over to the wing. His contract will be rough next year, but at least we can get one more year with him at a decent price.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- ?
? - Thomas (STL) - ?
? - Reinhart (FLA)- ?

Hughes (VAN)- ?
? - Karlsson (SJS)

Georgiev (COL)

Lipstick Apathy
I assume Box is skipped? In which case I’ll take Rasmus Sandin. He’s probably not 15 in 19 good, but I don’t think his play in Washington was a mirage either.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- ?
? - Thomas (STL) - ?
? - Reinhart (FLA)- ?

Hughes (VAN)- ?
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)

Georgiev (COL)

If Schmaltz can play a full season healthy he’s legit a star player.

Sorry work. I’ll take Claude Giroux and Taylor Raddysh.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Raddysh (CHI)
Giroux (OTT) - Thomas (STL) - ?
? - Reinhart (FLA)- ?

Hughes (VAN)- ?
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)

Georgiev (COL)

I have to figure out how the lines work.

I’ll take Stuart Skinner and post about it later. Fuckin love this kid.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
Ok so my team…

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA)
Matteli (ARI) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI)
? - Giroux (OTT) - ?

Hughes (VAN)- ?
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)

Georgiev (COL)
Skinner (EDM)

Reinhart is a part time C, so I’m going to move him up to the top line. He can take draws when Zib gets kicked out. I think that top line has some serious scoring power between those three.

The second line is a young guys line. Matteli is a ridiculous playmaker and Thomas is a stud. TBD if Raddysh sticks there.

That leaves Giroux on line three, though he probably eats a lot more minutes than that would imply.

Defense still being worked on.

Goalies are set. Georgiev is the starter but Skinner is behind pushing him. It’s a risky pairing but the price is pretty good for the next few years and they’re both likely real world NHL 1A options. Plus goalies are voodoo so pick guys you like, which is what I did.

Jordan7hm

Take the latter guy.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
Ok I’m going to take a unsigned free agent (based on our start date) as my next pick. Technically he is signed to Ottawa now on a pretty team friendly one year deal, I think he’s pretty great value for a team trying to win this year.

The Bulldogs select Vlad Tarasenko, UFA.

Lineup to come after my next pick.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
I’m fine naming the team, I assumed it was just a max of one UFA. We’re gonna have like 10 teams we don’t pick from, right?

Gimme a bit to figure out the team in any case.

Anyway I’m taking Simon Nemec. Not sure if he’s a prospect or a player, guess he’s a prospect who maybe plays in the show this year.

Lipstick Apathy
We’ve been talking about it in the discord, so I’m just going to go ahead and take this guy: Jamie Drysdale. I hope his surgery went well and he can get back to his insane 21-22 form.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA)
? - Giroux (OTT) - Tarasenko (UFA/LAK)
Matteli (ARI) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI)

Hughes (VAN)- Drysdale (ANA)
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)

Georgiev (COL)
Skinner (EDM)

Prospect: Simon Nemec (NJD)

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
I’m a bit surprised this guy is still available. I’ll take another prospect - Marco Rossi (MIN). His NHL stats over 21 games don’t tell the real story here - he’s got high end offensive upside and is near PPG through 116 games in the AHL coming right out of junior.

Jordan7hm
Feb 17, 2011

Lipstick Apathy
Uh. My post got ate. I’ll take Eeli Tolvanen and Tyson Barrie. A guy who still has some good potential to sit in my bottom 6, and another guy for my “defensemen are just fowards with more ice time” strategy.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA)
? - Giroux (OTT) - Tarasenko (UFA/LAK)
Matteli (ARI) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI)
Tolvanen (SEA)

Hughes (VAN)- Drysdale (ANA)
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)
Barrie (NSH)

Georgiev (COL)
Skinner (EDM)

Prospect:
Simon Nemec (NJD)
Marco Rossi (MIN)

Jordan7hm

I’ll take JJ Peterka, Buffalo. Another promising young RW who had a really solid rookie year last year, after a near PPG rookie AHL season as a 20 year old.

Jordan7hm

Lipstick Apathy
It’s time for a strong defensive presence to shore up my blue line.

Nah just kidding.

We select Shayne Gostisbehere (DET).

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA)
? - Giroux (OTT) - Tarasenko (UFA/LAK)
Matteli (ARI) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI)
Tolvanen (SEA) - ? - Peterka (BUF)

Hughes (VAN)- Drysdale (ANA)
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)
Gostisbehere (DET) - Barrie (NSH)

Georgiev (COL)
Skinner (EDM)

Prospect:
Simon Nemec (NJD)
Marco Rossi (MIN)

For my missed pick I’m going to fill out my roster with an offensive left wine threat: Michael Bunting.

Robertson (DAL) - Zibanejad (NYR)- Reinhart (FLA)
Matteli (ARI) - Giroux (OTT) - Tarasenko (UFA/LAK)
Bunting (CAR) - Thomas (STL) - Raddysh (CHI)
Tolvanen (SEA) - ? - Peterka (BUF)

Hughes (VAN)- Drysdale (ANA)
Sandin (WSH) - Karlsson (SJS)
Gostisbehere (DET) - Barrie (NSH)

Georgiev (COL)
Skinner (EDM)

Prospect:
Simon Nemec (NJD)
Marco Rossi (MIN)

Coach: Martin St Louis
