Feels like "Wrasslin's not real" was more of a thing when it was the circuits and house shows and you knew that Johnny Nasty didn't *really* steal Trucker Joe's wife and today Joe would get his revenge, and also they were pulling punches and putting on a show for 12 minutes. WWF SatAM era felt more like "OK we know the clown isn't really a homicidal ex-circus man, and his tag team partner really isn't a voodoo priest, but they really do kind of kick and throw each other" With wrestlers growing beyond their ring personas into actors and whatnot, it's obviously harder to keep the showbiz illusion going.
