Can't believe Boro will have the best manager in the league on opening day two years running.

Dell_Zincht posted:Boro don't have a striker for the first game of the season. We have some depth at striker (Crooks, Rogers, Coburn if he's back from injury, Forss if moved back from right winger) . We don't have a quality, top level striker like we had at the end of last season with Archer but we could muddle through for a bit while we look for a loan from the Prem or whatnot. Left back we literally don't have a senior player other than Coulson or playing someone significantly out of position like we did with McGree second half against Auxerre. Plus with Smith and Dijksteel out we're already going to be playing a makeshift right back in McNair or Van den Berg. Injury issues in general are really bad at the moment - Akpom, Howson, Smith, Dijksteel, Coburn, and Clarke all out.

Wigan did have several of their better players terminate their contracts and leave on frees due to the nonpayments though.

https://twitter.com/SportsPeteO/status/1689368726502625281 Woof Boro were linked to a Danish LB and an striker from Atalanta today, seems like the LB deal is nearly done but the striker is not. Would fill our two biggest current areas of need.

Adrianics posted:Very much how this is starting to feel. I think last season was lightning in a bottle, a largely mediocre squad hauled kicking and screaming to the brink of glory almost entirely because of Hamer and Gyokeres, and if it was ever going to happen it was going be then. We're utter gash without Hamer and will probably get battered tomorrow Boro fans have spent the last month pretty much having the same freakouts about Archer/Ramsey/Giles/Akpom.

Boro absolutely shot ourselves in the foot. Horrendous giveaway by Engel for the third goal and Smith has to show more intelligence when on a booking than he did to get the second yellow (even if his first yellow was total horseshit).

Dell_Zincht posted:WBA's first goal should have been disallowed but we were the architects of our own downfall today and Tommy Smith is a bloody idiot. I agree, the two sparks of hope from that miserable game were Latte Lath getting his first goal and Jones looking really good when he came on. Still can't believe his shot off the inside of the post didn't go in.

Good time for Rogers to get his first league goal. Ruddy was standing on his head today for Birningham, could easily have been 3 or 4 for us.

Dell_Zincht posted:Cracking game, awful ref Calling the late foul on Latte Lath stopping a clean run on goal was at least understandable even if I thought it was wrong. I still don't know how the foul on Jones at the edge of the box was not either a red or a penalty though.

Was not expecting anything going in to that game and would have been happy with a draw but in the end we ought to have won by 3 or 4 rather than 1. Still delighted with it though.

Wow that Boro-Rotherham game was maddening. We couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from a million chances, stonewall pen not given, and Rotherham score their only shot on target from a fluke mishit cross created from a clear foul that wasn't given.

In the most average Middlesbrough half ever we conceded a goal to a very tame shot outside the box and then the ref doesn't give an extremely obvious penalty to us.
