Don’t want to spoil anything for the OP but it is super crazy when Pete moves to the future and gets addicted to VR porn.

and then you’re weirded out by that because, you’re like the opposite of that guy

it's beautifully shot, has great actors, and has a neat mid-century aesthetic.

plot and story of Mad Men are afterthoughts and do not matter in the slightest. understanding that makes the show much more enjoyable

what was kind of funny to me was how, when Mad Men started, everyone lost their minds over how gorgeous and "stylish" everything/everyone was in the sixties

and then like three seasons later people started whining about "ewwwww the seventies" and like, uhhh, we're only at 1965 or 1966 here

turned out what people loved wasn't the sixties after all, it was the fifties (because the show starts in 1960, so everything we see in the first season is really a product of the fifties)

How the gently caress do you remember when anything happened in this show? I loved it but I have no idea how many seasons there are or when anything happens. It's just a constant stream of men getting mad, it all blends together.

And Cooper straight-up admits, "I don't care about art. I bought it as an investment" when Harry Crane is trying to bring it up. Ever the capitalist (until "the best things in life are free", anyway).

AvesPKS posted:

Oh and Burt Cooper has no balls

I remember the Mad Men thread spent a while trying to figure out what Roger meant when he said, "Do you want me to get Dr. Lyle Evans in here?" before they mentioned it an entire season later that it's the doctor that did that surgery.

Windows 98 posted:

Don keeps being a giant dick and shouting about how hard he works all the time. 100% of his ideas are spontaneous on the spot in a meeting with a client. He doesn’t do gently caress all.

Oh yeah, it's an entire throughline in the show that a lot of them are successful for a reason other than actual 100% meritocracy. Don got Roger drunk and convinced him he had hired him in a stupor, Roger inherited the business, Pete was New York blue blood, Lane was offered a partnership at the new firm only because he was key to firing them, etc.

They weren't wrong. The 1960's was a decade of slow transition for America from the society built post WW2 to a more modern America that reflected a more just and diverse country. Showing this transition is practically the entire thesis of the show!

people new to the show now miss the whole fact it was one part of the best Sunday night (or Monday for euros) lineup of TV that ever existed

before avclub was terrible and actually awesome it would be A/A+ every week with like breaking bad and game of thrones, boardwalk empire … just all kinds of ground breaking stuff

I miss that getting home from work on a Monday and having like 4 straight hours of perfect content. the streaming age sucks s**t a billion lame shows just copying them and all these dead eyed pies thinking this is what entertainment is about

I don't dance unless I'm totally wasted.
I enjoyed Stan and Peggy's dynamic/relationship.

Ken working with GM is hilarious. And his loving maple syrup story that everyone gets jealous of.

Pete going bald is funny. But that scene when he hits rock bottom in the office is great.

Then when people figure out how to juice Roger for more money and he's basically paying people's salary increases with his own pocket change.

Duck Phillips taking a poo poo on someone's desk.

The alcoholic who pisses himself while passed out in a client meeting, but then makes a comeback because he met the Ponds Cold Cream guy in AA.

I remember season 7 was still being extremely episodic and gave up on it as it didn't seem to be going anywhere.
