Everyone posted:

We actually have a few, though not necessarily in Urban Fantasy.

Leng gave us Petition

General Battuta has given us the excellent Baru Cormorant series.

Most of us hang out in the main SFF thread. In addition to the others already mentioned:

SurreptitiousMuffin wrote The Dawnhounds, which got a rave review from Tamsyn Muir and sequel is coming next year (I think it qualifies as epic urban fantasy?):

This is an amazing short story that defies classification.

Hyperactive posted:

I should probably mention my day job is writing Atomic Robo, a sci-fi adventure comic that is one of the longest running creator owned series in print (but also the whole thing is free online) and it's been critically acclaimed the whole time. TLDR my new book is a fairly safe bet.
From the guy who wrote 8-bit Theatre!

I beta read this! Not YA and no romance, just a good old fashion wizard adventure.

Classic wizard adventure fantasy.

Time for some shameless self-promotion, my urban fantasy Unit 13: Only Ghouls and Horses is on KU.

If you like jokes about office bureaucracy then this book is for you.

Also, it has some magic, hunting witches, trying to exorcise ghosts and stuff like that to pad out the jokes about bureaucracy.
Mongoose is in my writing group and way funnier than I am.

newts posted:

Mine is an urban fantasy, but it is also very, very gay (less necromancy, more gay sex). And was actually free on Amazon until today.

A couple more from the self-publishing thread. I have been quite impressed by the quality of self-published goon books.

Vampire on the Orient Express by freebooter aka Shane Carrow.

My review: "This is one of those wonderful "Snakes on a Plane" things where you get exactly what it says on the tin. There is a vampire on the Orient Express, and our intrepid heroes must defeat it. Both the vampire and the Orient Express are vividly described, so reading the book feels like taking an exotic vacation in your mind, with added vampire action. Unlike another reviewer, I liked how the protagonists encounter the vampire almost immediately after boarding the train. It would be pointless to drag out the reveal when the reader has already seen the title."

Same author:
Werewolf on the Western Front
The Heart of the Mummy
End Times: The Complete Series

Ebb Tide: A Post-Zombie Apocalypse Thriller (The Southwind Saga Book 1) by jazzyjay aka Jase Kovacs.

A young women survived the zombie apocalypse by being on a boat, so now she must scavenge for supplies to keep her boat running while fighting zombies with an M4 and monologuing about technical details of boating. One of the things I like about self-published fiction is when it allows the author to really nerd out about a technical interest of theirs that trad publishers would consider of too narrow interest. I don't own a boat, but this made me want to, so I can sail into the sunset when the apocalypse happens.

Unfortunately, the book suffers from a lack of editing and a multitude of grammatical errors, which prevents me from recommending it unconditionally. If you are willing to forgive that, the prose itself is quite good.

I get it, but part of the point is to be able to connect people to the authors. I obviously am happy to remove anyone's username if they'd like, but I'm not altogether sure if that should be the default. Also happy to hear other opinions, of course.

I don't have an issue with it because Shane Carrow is a pen name, and also because SA is a paywalled forum.

BATDANCE

Oh hey I wrote an exceedingly overpriced poetry chapbook called A Void and Cloudless Sky. The publisher sucks and I don't see hardly any royalties, but there it is. Thinking about working up an ebook and/or audiobook version of it in the future.

Oh, you poor soul!

Thanks to silvergoose for making this thread. I love the idea of our community supporting itself. Reminds me of the "Goonreads" site we attempted to keep going some years back.

I'm a little confused on if this thread is for any goon-written book or just self-published, but for completeness' sake, as fond as I am of my many little stories, most goons will know me best as the author of Two Gentlemen of Lebowski: A Most Excellent Comedie and Tragical Romance from the good folks at Simon & Schuster.

100% any goon-written book, for sure, given the first set I put in are absolutely through publishers.

You're welcome!

This is on the list twice now. I somehow missed that it was there already.

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
edit: snipping this, I don't want to identify the author in this subforum without their permission, though they're open in their authorship in another one.

I edited a book (wrote a chapter and part of the introduction) but it's boring technical science academic poo poo and is now out of print anyway so no point in linking to it

Once the one I am currently writing is out then it might be worth including, but it will still no doubt still be boring as poo poo
