Repo Man - Miller Explains Cosmic Unconsciousness & Time Travel/Flying Saucer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKobmM2OnDc

Alright I have to make this thread - a place to collect stories about this poo poo. I don’t really want to talk about the idea as much as share experiences of really insane chance poo poo happening, because I have some really intense ones and I’m sure other goons do too, but it would be nice if they didn't get mixed up in the UFO thread!

quote:

A 2016 study found that two thirds of therapists surveyed agreed that synchronicity experiences could be useful for therapy.[18] Analytical psychologists likewise hold that individuals must come to understand the compensatory meaning of these experiences in order to "enhance consciousness rather than merely build up superstitiousness".[19] However, clients who disclose synchronicity experiences in a clinical setting often report not being listened to, accepted, or understood.[20] Furthermore, the experiencing of an overabundance of meaningful coincidences is characteristic of the earliest stages of schizophrenic delusion.[21] M. K. Johansen and M. Osman write that "prevalent among many scientists, particularly psychologists studying coincidences, is [the view] that the occurrence of coincidences, as psychologically experienced, is induced by noisy chance occurrences out in the world which are then misconstrued via irrational cognitive biases into unfounded, possibly even paranormal, beliefs in the mind."[7] One study has shown that both counselors and psychoanalysts were less likely than psychologists to agree that chance coincidence was an adequate explanation for synchronicity, while more likely than psychologists to agree that a need for unconscious material to be expressed could be an explanation for synchronicity experiences in the clinical setting.[18]

Jung used the concept of synchronicity in arguing for the existence of the paranormal.

The culmination of Jung's lifelong engagement with the paranormal is his theory of synchronicity, the view that the structure of reality includes a principle of acausal connection which manifests itself most conspicuously in the form of meaningful coincidences. Difficult, flawed, prone to misrepresentation, this theory none the less remains one of the most suggestive attempts yet made to bring the paranormal within the bounds of intelligibility. It has been found relevant by psychotherapists, parapsychologists, researchers of spiritual experience and a growing number of non-specialists. Indeed, Jung's writings in this area form an excellent general introduction to the whole field of the paranormal.

okay here’s my first story I’ve got about 6 pretty solid ones this is the tamest -

In the early '00s I was a teenager hanging out in the New Orleans rave scene, and made loads of friends through some message boards, much like with SA. I met my partner through it, loads of my best lifelong friends. One of my good friends was named Kurt. The last time I saw him was around 2009 at a house party.
Ten years later, after moving to Colorado, we take a 2-day drive to southwest Louisiana where my partners family live. On the second day of the trip, we’d woken up early and left the hotel somewhere in Dallas, we need to pee, and we’re out in the middle of nowhere, somewhere between Houston and Galveston. There’re a sign for a gas station but there’s nothing around, just trees. We had to pull off the interstate, go under the overpass, and a half mile back down the frontage road, then back under the interstate to get to this gas station. The roads were all old and hosed up full of holes and there was nothing else around just trees. Not even an Arby’s.
We pull up in front of the entrance and the missus gets out to go inside, I’m sitting there just relaxing from the drive, I look up, and Kurt walks straight past the front of my car. He and some friends were driving the opposite direction from New Orleans, on the way to a ren fest.

second story

I went to elementary in Bristol, England, in the late 1980s, and moved to America when i was a boy. Then I moved back to Bristol in 2004. One day I’m walking down this street doing some grocery shopping (hitting up the green grocers, bakers, olive and cheese shop, etc) and I walk past this woman who I immediately recognize from my class when I was 6 years old. Just something about her face I always remember thinking how interesting it was…I’m so dead sure of it I stop her, apologize for being weird, and then ask if she went to the school…and yes it was her!…we shared a couple quick laughs about how we used to fight over the limited number of hoolahoops and how we’d put on a little show at recess for anyone who was feeling a bit down that day…and then I said goodbye and continued on my day.

here’s my third story, a bit crazier -

I’m a tattooer in Denver now, and I’m talking about this coincidental weird poo poo happening to me and people I know with a coworker named Phil about a year and a half ago. He tells me a story about one day he’s tattooing this kid here in the shop, the kids like 18 and his mom’s in there with him, and they get to talking about where they’re from, which turns out to be the same town in the same state on the other side of the country as Phil. They talk more about this and it turns out Phil and this kids older sister went to the same high school in the same year, back in the 90s.
Two months later I’m doing this tattoo on a guy, and I’m not really in my usual talkative and upbeat mood, so I’m being pretty quiet and just focusing on the work. out of nowhere he starts talking about how he’s visiting Colorado from New Orleans…I say that I used to live there and did a lot of growing up there, but then get back to being quiet and focused…then we start talking about how I became a tattooer and I mention dropping out of high school. I tell him which one I went to, he says “My sister went there.”
I ask him which year she graduated - 2003. I would have graduated in 2001…so I say to him that if she has a yearbook from her freshman year…that I’m probably in it as a junior. About 4 hours later he emails me a photo of myself his sister took from the yearbook.

My missus told me one where she and her family took a ski trip from Louisiana to Aspen as a kid, and they stopped in at this restaurant in a little mountain town, sat down, looked around, and saw their neighbors and their whole family at a nearby table.

So I’ve got three more really good insane bangers, but I’d like to open it up to the room for a bit before I go on any further. Stories of any size are welcome!
It seems undeniable to me that there is some sort of weird connection formed between people, and the strangest thing is how mundane it seems to be…like most of these stories that I’ve experienced or heard from others never end in “…and he saved my life.” it just sort of goes, “…well, good to see you again………bye.”

Read Cosmic Trigger by Robert Anton Wilson, where synchronicity and engaging with it plays a major role in the book, vaguely wondered what the hell was up with Timothy Leary's Terra II book (which was just general acidhead space migration crap) that is mentioned a couple times throughout.

A couple days later I'm checking the recycling at work because some jackasses always leave fully constructed boxes inside, lo and behold I find this:

Not a good book, condition or otherwise, but howdy doody :iiam:

hell yeah thanks for contributing

sorry to the other posters who haven’t yet experienced anything.

my mom was an art student in California in the 90s. after graduating she moved away from California and never really saw anyone she went to school with again. in 2018 she went to china for a ceramics convention, and on the last day of her trip she went to a temple out in a forest to kill some time.
she walks out onto a patio on the second floor overlooking an open square, glances down, and sees the top of the head of one of her best friends from art school

its not a biggie and easily dismissed but i started taking notice as the bird thread gained speed and its kinda spooky how often i will receive a message on the phone from the person I'm hoping to get a message from as I am reaching for the phone to check if they've messaged me.

oh yeah this is a classic, i definitely remember being a kid and hearing the phone ring and thinking “this is my friend calling” for sure.

okay here’s my second to last story -

when I was a kid in New Orleans my stepdad worked as a stage hand during JazzFest. we got to hang out back stage every day every year - it was amazing. one year the Neville brothers are playing at his stage, and he sees that the keyboard player, Art Neville, has a son about my age, and arranges with him for me to go over to his house and play with his son!!!
I got to play at his house twice it was insane.

in 2018 in Denver I tattoo a guy, and he’s a musician, upright bass I think, like one of the ones who plays in the bands when touring artists come into town without their own band.

in 2019 this guy comes back to me to start a halfsleeve, and that morning Art Neville had died. as we’re walking to my station I mention it, figuring this guy at least knows who the Neville Brothers were. he says yeah it sucks and I tell him the first part of this story.

as I’m saying words “played with his son,” this guy says, “oh you mean Ian?”
I say, “yeah I think so…”
and this dude goes, “Ian’s my best friend; I’m going to see him next week.”
