I kinda wanna do FW but I don't want to train an alt, don't want to lose standings to some empire, and especially don't want to watch for hostile militia members in all of highsec. I guess I could sort of deal with these things since I spend most of my time in lowsec anyway, but they just pile so many obstacles in front of it. I'll probably never touch the pirate FW stuff for the same reason. It's kinda sad.

Something something mercenary contract limited to CONCORD-approved warzones with consequences limited to these areas, just do something like this.

Yeah, but then you're limited to very basic ships with very basic skills and I'm gonna have more fun doing other stuff with a bigger box of toys on my main. It's why I don't wanna go the alt route. It's either a lot of time, isk or money to train one up.

I get the impression the video communicated things pretty well to non-Eve players, judging from most of its audience that it clearly successfully reached not being Eve players, as well as the people who keep popping up who want to play Eve because of it now.

I got one of those and introduced him to PVP three days in by taking him to bubble Frat staging. He lived through his first fight and we got a Kitsune and Retribution, which he jammed. :shobon:

The big ones at least. Medium rails are still made of disappointment unless you put them on an ENI, which fixes them with a 125% damage bonus.

Medium blasters are also a different kind of disappointment, unless you put them on an ENI, which fixes them with a 125% damage bonus.

Medium hybrids really need a buff, probably with a corresponding nerf on the ENI.

I might misremember because it's been a long time but I think there was both an exclusivity deal (which might have funded some of the game?) as well as a misguided worry that it would compete with Eve.

At least that's a lesson they've learned.

The Trig invasion happened in random systems I think. Where they won, and which systems were consequently moved to Pochven, was player-driven, and said players thought it was funny to yoink Niarja.

Someone correct me if I have my history wrong. I wasn't actually playing at the time.

this is correct, additionally it leaked later that there was already a preset amount of systems that at minimum be flipped along with some other stuff - which sort of killed the whole player driven part of it, since it was all predetermined by CCP beforehand and they just lied that it would be affected by the free will of the players
There was a predetermined number of systems that would be flipped, but I don't think that killed anything? It makes a pretty big difference whether it's Niarja or some random system in Aridia that got taken away.

Someone at CCP is smuggling obscure old planes into the ship designs and I'm here for it. The Hecate is the most obvious one since it's an old school flying wing.

The Algos is built around a Tupolev TB-3.

Part of the design cues for Mordus ships is stealth aircraft. It's where a lot of their surface details come from. What about when they want to loan some shapes, do they go for something normal, like a B-2 or an F-22? Hell no, the Orthrus is packing a Tacit Blue.

Look at the middle hull compared to the fuselage and the nose windows though.

There's also some French plane that looks like this.

It's worth noting anyone looking with combat probes will still catch you with a single scan, though I imagine that risk is probably lower in null than in highsec where people are specifically doing it to hunt abyssal runners. And you do still reduce the risks either way.

Caldari names are a mixture of Japanese and Finnish.

Fun fact the Ikitursa is a sea monster from Finnish mythology. It's a Trig ship modified (and named) by the Caldari.

Minmatar have Icelandic names and Norse themes, but are diverse and not particularly nordic ethnically. I figure cultural and ethnic groups of old Earth mostly don't actually exist anymore and you've got various remnants of them in groups that have formed since.

I lost Eve again.

First time playing for a while, messing around in Ishkur and my buddy in a funky application and kite polarized bomber. We drive into a Frat gatecamp made up of a Vigilant, a Gnosis and an Exequror. The Vigi and Exeq die and we both live. The bomber went first and they were unsuccessfully chasing it, and once I get in and tackle the logi the Vigi and Gnosis both start burning back, and once the logi dies to the torps the Vigi starts dying to gate guns and I just tank it until it dies.

We had a gang of a varying set of 3-4 people going today and towards the end kinda lost our good tackle so we were down to a single point on an ENI and I discovered the no point strat: Nobody is very scared if you don't point them, you seem like you're just keeping range, you don't go too fast, you maybe stop shooting if they're looking unhealthy, and then you just let them catch you, point and kill.

One hour a week sounds too little for Eve because most things you might do in Eve tend to take longer than that at a time. A few hours a week becomes a lot more feasible.

Eve isn't very casual in that to actually get into it you have to think about what you want, find your place, ideally have someone take you under their wing. It's generally "serious" for a game, but it can be casual in the sense of not putting a ton of hours into it. The way I play Eve, I ping some friends to see if they want to do stuff and then we go do a thing. I don't make any commitments of any sort to play at any time expect when I feel like it, which sometimes means I play a lot, sometimes I might play a few hours a week, and sometimes I might not play at all for a few months. This is why I'm allergic to corps that go "must do x fleets a month" - I'm never gonna play a video game for any reason other than "I feel like it". But you can avoid this stuff, like I do. Getting into that groove and figuring out how you want to play the game is usually the big obstacle.

In my experience the people who stick with it don't necessarily play a ton, but they tend to be the kind of nerd who enjoy complex systems and figuring them out.

This isn’t really a casual game. It can take an hour just for a fleet op to get rolling to what it needs to be doing. MMO’s in general tend to reward time investment, and this one is probably the worst for that.

Please note we’ve literally had fleet battles that started at the crack of dawn and finally wrapped up at that same time the next day. This is not loving sane.
I'd say Eve is among the best MMOs to play if you're not going to be spending a ton of time on it because it really doesn't need you to. Giant nullsec fleet ops are not the only thing in the game.

I play with several people right now who play for a few hours occasionally, not even weekly.
