The leaves are about to start falling, as are the environmental standards as Michael Gove tries to scrap the limits on 'nutrients' (as Atlantic killifish and their relatives call them) entering into streams, as part of a claim that this is necessary to increase the rate of building investment properties.
Completely unrelated, schools in England must immediately shut buildings made with a concrete prone to collapse until safety work done.
Meanwhile, the rate of inflation on actual nutrients has fallen slightly, but that just means that prices continue to get higher at a slightly lower rate, all while surveys show that 5% of people report running out of food and being unable to afford to buy more.

They're calling it 'resomation', but if you're putting a body in the soap making chemicals and shaking it around a bit there's already a name for the end result of that.

Slight irony of "cremation pollutes the air, we're going to put people in the water as liquid soap instead" finally getting approval just as the shitey water scandal peaks.

Maybe that's the 'nutrients' that Gove is referring to :cthulhu:

Apparently it was first tried a few years ago but couldn't go ahead because

quote:

Severn Trent Water has refused the council a "trade effluent" permit.

The cremation company Resomation says waste water does not contain human DNA.

On the company's website its founder Sandy Sullivan explains that after the cremation, liquid is "safely returned to the water cycle free from any traces of DNA".

But a source at Water UK, a membership organisation that works with water companies on industry standards, said it had "serious concerns about the public acceptability of this".

"It is the liquefied remains of the dead going into the water system. We don't think the public will like the idea."

I guess people have bigger concerns like v. cholerae DNA in the water system now.

No I think vendors realized that if there was no law against selling the small ones for small cream dispensers (as determined by court case) then there's no precedent against selling the large ones for commercial cream foamers, and so sold those instead, and people using them for whatever purpose then realized that that was a lot cheaper and more convenient than dozens of tiny ones.

Also more likely to injure or asphyxiate you if you do it completely wrong, and they're not allowed to include instructions other than "never inhale this ever or you'll die and go to super hell", so not the best win for harm reduction, but at least the litter problem got solved :toot: *chokes on party horn*

Functioning political party.

Entire Leicester East Labour group suspended by party chiefs

quote:

The Labour Party has suspended its entire Leicester East branch. The national executive (NEC) is investigating the troubled constituency Labour party (CLP) over concerns around its operation...

All branch and constituency Labour party meetings will be stopped “until further notice” and all CLP and branch officers have been “relieved of their positions and duties” while an internal investigation takes place, the email says. It has not been confirmed specifically what prompted the suspension...

A Labour Party source said in reaction: "The NEC has a duty to safeguard the integrity of CLPs, to ensure that they are properly run in line with the party’s rules and procedures and can operate fully, inclusively and democratically."

It comes after what has already been a turbulent year for the Labour Party in Leicester following mass deselections ahead of the 2023 Local Elections in May. The national committee purged 19 of its councillors ahead of the elections - a decision slammed as “undemocratic” at the time.

A majority of those deselected were from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) background, which also led to criticism. Labour sources stressed that the newly-selected candidates were representative of all communities.

But the party lost a significant number of seats in Leicester East wards following the shake-up. Labour managed only 31 seats in the 2023 Local Elections compared to 53 in 2019.

Pretty much, except that asbestos was until recently unparalleled for fireproofing and longevity, it was just horrific for the poor sods who had to mine it or turn it into anything, whereas this is more like "we made an aero bar out of cement because it's cheap and we need mass infrastructure now, but I'm sure that the government in the 90s will understand the importance of prompt replacement."

I think the closest modern equivalent to asbestos is those engineered stone kitchen worktops, there's rumblings in trade magazines and people who engineer them for a living but nobody in the wider public seems to want to acknowledge it.

And also uniforms really don't do that, otherwise the least classist schools in the country would be the old money public schools with formal dress codes, and I'm fairly sure that is not the case.

Even (especially?) in full tie and blazer and your-trousers-must-be-this-shade-of-charcoal schools rich kids will just use dress shoes or watches or items of jewellery that the staff wouldn't dare complain about like gold crucifixes to show off.
