my folks were away last weekend so i was catsitting and here are some pics first, here are a lot of commodore 64s and other commodore things (i think there's another one in the box but i didn't bother opening it to check that's squeakie, who is was taking care of. she is deaf and almost completely blind and she is very loud and friendly i thought that was all of them, in his hobby room, but i found more in the basement

all those commodores are not enough, because he has been making a fully-accurate emulated c64 on a rasperry pi, and put in in the case that he printed himself both the case and all the emulation bits are stuff he got online

how best to use the shelves of this clock? put more clocks on it that hard drive is a clock, he made a few of those. most of them were given away/used for gift-exchange games, but he kept one

seven billion model kits, and now that he's retired maybe he will put them together! there's a little bit of overlap in these pics but all of them show at least one thing that wasn't in other pics

he wired + motored this x-wing up so it would open/close its wings and play the star wars blaster sounds. then we kids broke it by being generally careless around it, oops, and it got put on top of a shelf this one i made! or rather, i got like 80% of the way through and then stopped, because adhd. iirc the stopping reason was the pilot went missing, and i didn't want to keep going until i found him, and then after upwards of one week i just kinda forgot

this is only like a fifth of the books in the house, and if you include all the scifi ebooks then it's probably like 5%. hey look the x-wing, you saw that in my previous post! e: forgot to mention that all the shelf books are two layers deep so there' about 40% more books in this pic than initially appears biosterous fucked around with this message at 17:49 on Sep 6, 2023

most of us are tall enough to bump our heads going into the basement, so there was a helpful reminder to duck. there was also a flat wooden duck hanging next to the letters. then dad bumped his head hard enough that the C fell off and we never put it back up (it might have broken on impact?), and then he needed to get to those cables behind the duck the end, i hope you enjoyed the pics e: for a long time we didn't have that handrail but then once my folks got to their 50s dad decided that that was a dumb problem to keep having and installed the handrail this was great, until it came time to replace the washing machine, which had made it down with plenty of room before the handrail, but now could not fit without taking the rail down first biosterous fucked around with this message at 17:51 on Sep 6, 2023

other stuff not pictured: 3d printers (three of them) a bunch of marvel comics omnibuses (he used to also have thousands of comics but then he sold them and bought computer stuff with the cash) various 3d-printed things basically every babylon 5-related piece of print media in existence a bunch of old sci-fi shows on dvd, obtained before everything got digitized and now he just pirates new stuff and keeps it on the server a bunch of raspberry pis attached to various small hobby things, often involving LED strips

the Tide model kit is the hardest. Sure it's nice and cheap and you can get it at No Frills, but it has like billions of pieces that are too small to even hold
