So instead of a virtually guaranteed 4 losses, that's 7 teams of which they'll see 3-4 of each year so that's just 1 easier game every other year.

It's just like high round locks and transfers that sit out bowls, right? Everyone else who's leaving still wants the extra tape to improve their stock or are playing the last competitive game of their careers. And there's everyone playing for their spots next year who aren't going to sit.
