You get used to it. I don't
even see the code. All I see
is Ipecac, Scapular, Polyphemus...

There's one hidden area in particular where you have to swim against a current, how'd you do it without the badge?

Just like some older games, you swim faster while holding an object, like a shell.

Medals only weigh one down.

I keep seeing pairs of players doing exactly the same actions, with names like Dan and Dan2. Are people really botting this game? What could possibly be the point of that??

That last LAST level was lol. Beat it after 100+ attempts at like 1 am.

I guess this old bitch has still got it.

I assumed that was people playing local multiplayer

Oh, yeah, there's actually a tip screen about this.

If two faces are close to each other on the UI they're playing local multiplayer. If one player is doing something and then the second one is doing the same thing they could be using one of the accounts as a standee to 'cheat'. But I thought that's what being online was for in the first place?

Personally, I have an account named '2' because some Nintendo games have real weird save restrictions, so I keep a spare account just to play games from scratch.

I can confirm this. You can do 2 player local multiplayer and online. My kid and I had a blast the other day doing this.

I'm just about to tackle the final-final level for the first time. Getting three badges at once after clearing the "final" level was pretty funny. So far the only level where I really felt like I was banging my head against a wall was the Puff Puff Peaks Special level, with the rising goo and disappearing blocks. Took a solid 60 attempts across two sessions to get the timing right, that I wasn't hitting things too early in the beginning but also not being too late at the end.

What a solid game. Short, but in a good way, where after this level and farming up the last few Standees, I'll feel like I've really done it all. Amazing how Mario games do that -- I'd still recommend Odyssey to anyone with a Switch, even though I haven't touched it since I 100%ed it. Not a lack of replay value, but a feeling of completeness. Love it.

THUNDERDOME LOSER 2021
Crossposting from fresh releases thread, since this thread is likely to have some interested parties.

What's this? More viewers watching Super Mario World than Super Mario RPG on Twitch?

It's because as of 1pm PST today, Grand Poo World 3 is officially released. GPW3 is the 3rd kaizo Super Mario World ROM hack by BarbarousKing, and the most anticipated Mario fan game/hack of the year. After 3+ years of work and delays, you can now play it, if you desire difficult platforming and Super Mario Wonder just didn't do it for you (or you are hyped up for more 2d platforming action following finishing Wonder)

The official page for it will be up at a later time on SMW Central, but for now you can grab the patch and patch your SMW base ROM file from this page:

https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=files&u=32572

The site had like 3000+ people trying to download the file and was crashing, earlier. You can find all the tools you need on the site to apply the patch, but you'll need to search the internet for the base SMW ROM file on your own. Boot up your favorite emulator (SNES9x still works great, or Retroarch) or put it on an SD card and use with a flash cart of your choice.

Edit: some streamers to wach, if you want to get an idea of what this game is like:

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
Wonder has also inspired me to revisit and re-watch other people play some older Mario games and in doing that, I found the most entertaining non-TAS playthrough of SMW I've seen by far. This player knows what's up and also happens to have a ton of other retro game playthroughs, and they're all good.

"Hi Everybody!"

This feels very weird and wasteful compared to just rigging the hands and blendshaping the expressions and hat.

The hands make me wonder if they internally used bones to pose the hand models, but removed them from the realtime rig for optimization reasons, because sculpting and posing multiple of the same hand without using bones sounds like a nightmare.

that’s definitely the case, they manipulated the skeleton into the pose they wanted and then took a “snapshot” of that pose

it’s part of how they create the game’s cartoon look, by having the characters snap into expressions instead of blending them it emulates the feel of something that was animated by hand. I’ve done a similar kinda thing before with swapping textures in order to animate a 2D face on a 3D character. the individual assets aren’t huge so it shouldn’t be much of a hardware cost

Yeah, the whole game is something like 3-4 GB, TOTK is 16 or so? Plenty of room.
