Naval Aviation Orders: "Joint Operation Welcome Wagon" - 23 MAR 10

AO Arrow (Rio Gallegos)

With the Chinese invasion of Punta Arenas beginning to falter in AO Bolt, and our navy moving in to secure large sections of the western Patagonian Fjords AO Dart, our attention is turning to the concerning offensive in the eastern area of operations. Several PLAGF brigades are maneuvering against our forces and threatening our major joint base in Rio Gallegos. Consequently, we are engaging in a large-scale aerial counter-offensive.

Devil Squadron's F/A-18 Hornets will be providing our air forces with a Combat Air Patrol. Be on the lookout for enemy fighters attempting to attack friendly air and ground forces. Additionally, Rio Gallegos has been on the receiving end of multiple cruise missile attacks - their population is struggling under the relentless attacks. Unfortunately there is likely very little that we can do about this due to the high speed of the munitions, but be aware of the threat and look for opportunities to shoot down attacking cruise missiles and identify the sources of the attacks.

The Air Force will be engaging in a variety of SEAD attacks in AO Arrow led by Jedi, Rattler, and Chevy. They will be focusing on disrupting the land-sea bridge at Puerto Progreso, and taking out 1st and 2nd BDE ADA defenses that are protecting the area. Dodge's F-14B Tomcats will be subordinated to the Air Force and work directly with AFACs in conducting LGB strikes against critical targets.

With the Air Force's HTS-equipped F-16s and heavily-armed SU-25Ts providing a significant SEAD coverage over AO Arrow, Enfield and Ford Squadron will be ordered to conduct follow-on strikes on the 1st and 2nd BDE, targeting ADA, command and supply sites as opportunity presents. This will present a significant travel distance for Ford, but a fairly short one for Enfield. Both flights are advised to make use of the Bella Vista FARP to refuel and rearm as appropriate.

Collectively, we should have all strike aircraft use PLATE as IP for attack runs, then do a right turn out of the attack run to evade.

TENTATIVE AIR FORCE TASKING

Request use of Dodge 1 F-14B flight from the Navy.

Rattler 1 with TGP serves as AFAC, designating targets of opportunity on AO ARROW, with the following priority:

1: Landing ships at ferry
2: C2, supply, on TdF side
3: DEAD

Primary LGB-truck for this task will be Mirage F1 flight, Springfield 1, and Dodge 1, with F-14B tomcats, carrying LGBs.
Attacks from the NW, with a long toss, in close coordination with AFAC Rattler 1.

Due to Mirage F1 and Tomcat both lacking ability to customize codes and pilot not being able to see them, we use default code 1688.

Attack direction in blue, red circles are target areas, orange line is do-not-pass.

Supporting asset: Jedi 1, serving as SEAD, carrying HARMs. Firing mainly in SA-11 preprogram, or in self-defence TOO, and Chevy 1, Frogfoots, serving as SEAD, with ability to flex to long range ground attack with missiles if needed.

Jedi 1 will match Rattler 1's flight plan, arriving at each steer point no later than five minutes prior to Rattler 1.

ENFIELD 1 ORDERS

BLUF:
We're going to take off and destroy as much PLA Battalion equipment as we can.

THE PLAN:

On start up, we will verify our navigation and adjust our loadout if necessary. For the first run, we'll be going in heavy with Maverick E2s and GBU-54s and a TPOD, with Sidearms for self defence. We will await a callout from the ABM when Dodge is approximately 30 minutes out. At that time, we'll take off from FARP Bella Vista and form up at WP1 PLATE. Once formed up and given the green light, we'll continue to WP2 and begin designating targets and disassembling Chinese trucks, radars, and whatever else we can get a good bead on. In the even things get spicy in the air, bias egress to the North West and avoid flying south over the water if it can be avoided.
If we need to, once we're dry on weapons we can lase for other flights, and as we have the ability to change our lasers on the fly (heh) we can shift our codes around, but by 1-1 should default to 1671, 1-2 should default to 1672, and so on, to deconflict between each other and other flights. If we're not needed on station, we'll form up and return to WP0 FARP Bella Vista. If conditions warrant, we will refuel and rearm, Pilot's Delight, though as the battle rages and more hard targets are removed, I would recommend biasing towards HE APKWS for the soft targets with some LGB for clean up.
Below is a quick reference for waypoints and fuel warnings, though I do not expect fuel will be an issue. As the crow flies, the FARP lies less than 50nmi from the target area, and I intend to fly over, pick targets, and run out of ordnance as quickly as I'm able to get a higher likelihood of a second strike out.

CAP at AO Arrow
2024-04-13

  • Primary objective protect friendly air assets at AO Arrow.
  • Secondary objective attrit hostile air presence at AO Arrow.

We will take off from Santa Cruz and travel to the CAP zone at AO Arrow. We will take off at 3 seconds interval, turn towards WP2(ANCHOR) and climb at FPAS recommended speed. We will form up in two pairs, lead and element.

At the cap zone, the two pairs will alternate which pair is in front, flying towards waypoint WP2(ANCHOR) and WP3(CAP) respectively. Engage hostiles inside the WEZ. Crank to reduce closing speed and observe hot hostiles outside the WEZ. The pattern of movement may be translated south as needed to better protect friendly air assets.

Combat floor in the WEZ is 20k ft. There are known emplacements of HQ-7 inside the WEZ and SA-10 just south of it. Be mindful of RWR when conducting engagements. Assume ground-level manpads threat across the entire WEZ. The WEZ may be expanded south if known SAM batteries are silenced.

Accept medium risk in pursuit of primary objective.
Accept minimum risk in pursuit of secondary objective.

Bingo is 4000lb. Air refuel is available at Texaco, but should not be needed. Divert to Rio Gellegos in case of emergency.

Chevy Flight Plan

Hello! This week we will be backing up our F16 mission on SEAD and providing long-range strike support against any ships in the area and then other targets if possible.

Our loadout will be largely standoff TV guided missiles along with a pair of medium range ARMs. Full loadouts are in the mission card.

Mission
SEAD / Strike

Primary: Destroy any remaining SAM radars illuminating in the target area after the Vipers SEAD mission is completed.
Secondary: Destroy any large ships around the ferry terminal, and then any other targets of opportunity if conditions permit.

We will use the Kh-25MPU ARM for these (range 25km). Chevy should try to only engage any HQ7s from outside their ~10km range especially since we have learned of potential... updates to their capabilities.

The plan:

We will take off and push to WP2 while climbing at full throttle to 6000m. Once at WP2 we will orbit to the N and await completion of the initial SEAD wave by our F16s. As soon as they are Winchester, or confirm that no other radar targets are in the area, we will move to WP3 and SEAD if available, and otherwise hunt for targets of opportunity in the AO prioritizing naval vessels with our long range standoff missiles.

Notes:

Use the return (RTN) mode, waypoint 12 for Puerto Natales or waypoint 4 for Rio Gallegos. Bingo fuel will be at 25% capacity, Joker at 15%. Fuel capacity should not be a factor for our flight. Remember particular nuances of the Su-25T autopilot. Lead suggests you bind "Level" and "ATT hold" AP functions as well as AP disable. Remember to disengage AP before maneuvers or else your trim will be an issue, go to "Level" AP and reset trim once level and then disengage AP if you have issues.

Loadouts are in the mission card. Good luck.

Dodge 1 Tasking

To make things more exciting in this war, we'll be doing strikes at the ferry terminal over the strait, so load up all the GBU-16:s, and if someone in the ground crew manages to bolt even more of them on I'll by them several cases of beer.

Mission:
Strikes, in targets being in descending order of importance the landing ships followed by command and logistics equipment. AFAC services will be provided by Rattler 1, so target selection is in their hands, but lets not count out the possibilty of self-lasing if needed.

Flightplan:
Take off from SAWU, ascend to 32k feet, fly to WP2 at PLATE, loiter there until SEAD has done it's thing and we are called for strikes by Rattler 1 at TGT point at the ferry terminal. After munitions expended keep loitering at WP2 in case we are needed to engange air targets, return to SAWU when released.

Loadout:
2x AIM-9, 2x AIM-7, 4x GBU-16 Code 1688

Vahakyla

Rattler 1 will perform AFAC and Laser guided bombing at ferry terminal at max standoff range.

Initially Rattler 1-1 and 1-2 will lase targets, with default code 1688.

1-3 and 1-4 will drop more bombs on to the targets.

We also will get 8x GBU-16 from the Tomcats, also flying with Laser Code 1688.

Army Orders

Before/After

In light of the PLA's retreat across the front, and the success of our air force's strike's on breaking their morale and supply line stability, the Combined Army's leadership have agreed that it's time to initiate a counteroffensive against the PLA while they're on the run. The AO Bolt front will be a little more flexible, if the enemy turns and fights then we'll shift to just keeping them pinned in place rather than spending a lot of blood and metal on the assault. On the AO Arrow front, we will aggressively assault into the two brigades that crossed the Strait. The rotary Task Force will also be assigned to assist with the assault on the PLA 1st Inf and 2nd Marine. The Astros will be on call for the recon squadrons to eliminate high value targets

Update for CSAD:

Intel:
1. UPDATE US assessment is MODERATE confidence that the PRC deployment of SAGs and transport ships east of Gallegos was an amphibious demonstration/feint designed to draw CSAD forces toward the East Coast and reduce pressure from their western southern lines. With HIGH confidence, also believe this was intended to deny use of Rio Gallegos to reduce sortie generation and increase early warning time of CSAD flights taking off to strike PRC forces.

2. Special Reconaissance has now confirmed the grid points for an SA-10 site IVO Porvenir Airfield.
---UPDATE: The S-300 site at Porvenir Airfield has become static over the past couple of weeks. While it has at least one alternative firing point, the US recon team in TdF reports that it has not moved in over 10 days, and is augmented by point defenses. It is unclear if this lack of movement is due to maintenance issues or complacency after CSAD forces have stayed out of its bubble for so long. SIGINT indicates it is still an active SAM site. The grids are: Grids to be given by mission maker
---UPDATE: Smerch, Uragan, and CSS-7 units remain unlocated, or when they are located, they are spotted in temporary hide sights, on the move, etc. PLA Rocket Forces are maintaining their passive defense discipline and are a difficult

3. UPDATE: Multiple Smerch launches detected, with at least 18 detected long-range rockets with an impact elipse covering the high speed avenues between Chinese withdrawing forces and blue forces. It is likely they are deploying scattered minefields to cover their withdrawal as the PLA Marines try to link up with their armored forces in AO Bolt.

4. No Change: The Liaoning carrier battle group is located. Flight schedule seems to favor daytime operations. Like our carriers, they can only support about 12 hours of flying per day, likely less. They are currently on a daylight fly rotation, with a portion of their air wing operating from Stanley to allow them to take full fuel and heavy ordnance while the carrier-craft remain on fleet defense. It has significant escorts, to include big-wing ASW, ISR, and some AEW&C from Port Stanley.

Material Support to CSAD:
-2x USMC EWRs available for deployment in support of Devil Flight operations [in-game as FPS-117 or similar with datalink]. One of these can be located in a fairly dangerous location, the other should be in a comparatively safe location.
-16x TALDs and 12x AGM-84Ds enroute to Devil Squadron (TALDs can also be carried by the Tomcats). Resupply availability unknown based on worldwide priorities.
-QF-4 conversion to combat-capable F-4s scheduled for delivery to CSAD in two weeks, though there is a contract dispute between the refit subcontractor and the Department of the Air Force, which is holding up progress and spilling into the press.

[The following is internal to US, not shared with CSAD]

The USS Montpelier 688(i)-class SSN, recently completed TLAM strikes off the coast of Africa and has orders before returning home. The USS Montpelier has 6x ADCAPs remaining, 8 torpedo decoys, zero other ordnance.

Orders:
Interdict PLAN supply convoy between South Africa and The Falklands.
Priority of targets: ASW-capable escorts, RORO transports, Bulk transports.
Preserve your vessel and ability to return safely to home port.
Post-engagement, return to home port for re-arm and new tasking.

Due to the help for earth quake relief that was promptly provided and planned by the Combined Air Combat Command, the Chilean Red Cross has an overflow of humanitarian supplies available. These supplies were meant for rebuilding towns and providing aid to a large number of displaced persons.

They are currently located at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (IATA: SCL, ICAO: SCEL), and will require 4x a 737-sized cargo aircraft to transport them. (Times ten, but player effort will be also quadrupled here).

Game effect is that the commander can boost one occupied or struggling city upon liberation in a fast manner.

Taking 26 tons of spare parts and munitions from Rio de Janeiro to Puerto Natales.

For those keen on the numbers, here's the flight report:
https://fshub.io/flight/2972259/report

Loading up went as per usual, the trucks came and got me the goodies.

Looking good over the night sky! Bit of a tailwind pushing me along, always nice to have.

Had to whoop around once at landing, had some difficulty spotting the runway due to it not having runway lights, but RNAV'ed it again and got there in the end! Perhaps I should get a better sleep schedule and fly during the day. Ah well.
Was a little concerned about runway length, but with the predicted landing weight I would only be needing about 1400m, which is less than 1800m!

Touching down at 0627Z, bit firm but have to do something with this short of a runway!

Bit of a logistical challenge, are you sure we should be operating aircraft this big here?

Anyhow, flight completed!

General Carlos has spent a long evening at the headquarters and is dead tired. Just before he is about to leave, he checks his email for the final time. He notices he's received a message from his old friend, Peruvian Army General Vargas.

He spent most of his childhood with Vargas, and they attended the same prep school before parting paths, with Vargas going to Chorrillos Military School, and Carlos to Air Force Officers Academy in Lima. They've remained friends throughout, and have hit most career key development points at the same time. They live on the same street back in Lima, and their children play together, and their wives are both civilian employees at the headquarters. General Carlos considers Vargas his best friend.

They've stayed in touch, but their ways parted when CSAD decided to assign new generals after the fiasco of Tierra del Fuego. Vargas was initially offered the Army Command, but he declined, as the fallout had been huge and he was worried for accepting a poo poo bucket. He felt it was not good for his promotion chances. On the other hand, General Carlos took supreme command, despite his reservations.

Even after that, they occasionally call each other, but it's been increasingly difficult due to the infosec and comsec procedures in place by CSAD among the general staff.

The PLA are trying to take the heights again, to establish a detour around the minefield for their Marines. We're not going to let them.

The EA units on the heights above the highway will continue making best speed along the bluffs and fire upon the PLA in the flatlands below them as feasible. The EC units will shift their lines Eastward and get ready to begin a measured withdrawal if the PLA pushes hard into us. The EA 9th BDE will slow the PLA armored advance, but will withdraw slowly, with the aim of eventually forming a cohesive line with the other EA brigades to their East

Astros Fire Mission

Astros commander, our recon teams on the heights above the PLA Marines have noticed that the PLA supply and logistics units are trailing their combat units, and they're bunched up along the highway behind them. Using your SS-60 rocket packs, fire a distributed fire mission along this highway with the coordinates and corrections from our front line units. Once all the rockets are away from the launchers, make best speed back to Supply Base Bolsa de Tenancia and load up more rocket cartridges.

The PLA decides to push on the minefield. A hard surface road with a hasty minefield means that a maneuver unit can push through it if pressed. The PLAGF decides to use their most armored vehicle: The PLZ-07 self propelled 122 mm gun, and some of their scout IFVs. Despite the PLZ-07 not being a tank, it can take a big punch from an anti-armor mine, even if it becomes immobilized in most cases.

Both Artillery Battalions thus take the brunt, and with the quite literal act of plowing, open up an avenue on the highway, and most of the PLA force rushes west.

Their supply units, most supply, and their wounded, are left with a small medical force that volunteered to treat them.

It just got it's RIM-2 system on it, and some new VLSs. It's ready to punch hard. And you know the rumors about Venezuela joining, I can request those F-16s to be directly assigned to you.

Imagine what you could do with those? What do you think?"

Vargas, mi pata. I'm glad to hear you're so enthusiastic to help us in the fight.
Of course I can't give you details but between us both, it hasn't been easy and I believe you can imagine it. No officer in this drat continent could picture themselves in such a situation this soon, having to deal with such a big military power, each decision steering the fate of this land. Still, that's my job now and I'm getting somewhat used to it.

Mi pata, it would be great to have you by my side during such trying times. But Vargas, in the middle of this maelstrom, I just cannot do it. General Humberto has been doing a good job and part of this fight is being done on his home turf. Such a sudden dismissal would not bode well with the Argentinos, especially while our operations are being executed. Please understand that. I'm sure you will, viejo amigo.

Army Orders, 3rd response to PLA movement

Before/After

Soldados bravo! This last day has been full of hard marching and rough off-road driving, but your efforts in blood, sweat, and tears has paid off. While we didn't manage to encircle the PLA marines, we did do a number on their supply and support elements, and they wrecked their heavy artillery in the process of running away with their tail between their legs. Astros teams, your fire mission went swimmingly, it's been very challenging to find a good place to employ your munitions with an ALR that we could tolerate. Rearm at SB Bolsa de Tenancia, and head up the highway some way towards Rio Gallegos where we will make efforts to conceal your positions again.

EC forces, you were the anvil to the EA's hammer, and we appreciate your efforts tying up their other units. Prepare for a fierce counterattack from the PLA, all units are to prepare to withdraw in an orderly fashion if the PLA pushes back.

EA forces, we are going to keep some elements in the lowlands to mop up the remaining PLA on our side of the minefields, while the rest continue along the heights overlooking the highway to hold this defensible terrain. Prepare to hold firm against the PLA armor, and be ready to shift some elements West if they try to push a salient between the EA and EC. With the RDF Armored brigade rolling into town later in the day, we'll soon have a fresh armored brigade to keep an eye on the highway to Rio Gallegos and the coast.

Keep up the good work, and let's show these invaders what red-blooded latinos and latinas are capable of when they come to kill our people and steal our lands!

Seamos libres, que lo demás no importa nada!

General Humberto, you will need to organize medical care and placement for these POWs. This is the largest number of POWs so far in the war, minus sporadic ones from the frontline during shifts of battle.

PLA initiates a tubes red-barrage to the rear, scattering BLUFOR rear guard. The same time, a large number of armored battalions push north to the ridgeline and the Argentine Army 9th Brigade finds itself in heavy fighting.

The fighting becomes even more fierce towards the morning.

It is now 0500hrs local time, and time will slow down so that General Carlos may plan.

Buen dia camaradas. Let's get that bread. And by bread I mean getting those bastards out of this continent.
Good job on the last mission. PLAGF troops took a nice pounding thanks to you all and now our ground units is doing the same to them as we speak.
I want some CAS at AO ARROW to support our troops as soon as possible. I believe some of our airframes can sortie in a few hours so let's not waste time.

Our next ops after that will be on Saturday (March 27th) on AO BOLT, just like in the good ol times. As usual, strike their ground units and supply infrastructure, especially on Punta Arenas. The skies will be clear both weather-wise and PLAAF-wise so get some ordnance hitting the city's harbor.

Due to the help for earth quake relief that was promptly provided and planned by the Combined Air Combat Command, the Chilean Red Cross has an overflow of humanitarian supplies available. These supplies were meant for rebuilding towns and providing aid to a large number of displaced persons.

They are currently located at Arturo Merino Bentez International Airport (IATA: SCL, ICAO: SCEL), and will require 4x a 737-sized cargo aircraft to transport them. (Times ten, but player effort will be also quadrupled here).

We greatly appreciate your support. Those supplies are urgently needed at Rio Gallegos. They are to be sent at once to that city now that the shelling has stopped.

As per your orders, I as the Air Force commander will task the following non-player strike package to happen on 25th March, 2010, to fulfill your intent and the ground commander's request.

If the Navy wishes to commit to a strike nearby on a non-player package, they may, I'm providing CAP.

These types of CAS sorties on the highways are well within the competencies of our squadrons, and I expect good results in harrying the retreating PLA forces.

Naval Fleet Orders - 25 MAR 10

Heavy fighting throughout the campaign theater has led to rapid shifts in the battle lines. PLAN 1st Fleet bombardment of Rio Gallegos has damaged our operations, but not fighting spirit. Their fleet appears to have withdrawn south to Rio Grande, perhaps in order to replenish ammunition and resupply the round-the-clock ASW operations that had been mounted to deter our submarine forces from attacking. Our aerial strikes against an attempted amphibious invasion of Rio Gallegos has stopped the PLAGF in their tracks, and their remaining forces have retreated west in an attempt to link up with their troops in Punta Arenas. Meanwhile, the PLAN 2nd Fleet appears to be withdrawing from Punta Arenas, with significant activity detected in the Magellan and Magdalena Channels.

With this in mind, the following orders are issued:

AO Arrow:

With the bases at Rio Gallegos and Rio Chico no longer being shelled, logistics units shall immediately begin restoring order in the areas. A US Marine EWR has been set up in Rio Gallegos, as well as one in Santa Cruz. We will begin shipping in supplies as soon as they are available.

Additionally, our Brazilian A-4 Skyhawks aboard the Minas Gerais have been dutifully performing defensive patrols in the Argentine Sea and protecting our flanks. We have begun building up an invasion force to retake the Islas Malvinas, and they are part of it along with the British and Argentine forces. However, they are itching to get into combat and now they finally can contribute. Using the San Julian Airbase to refuel, a group of non-player 8x A-4 Skyhawks will engage in Close Air Support against a salient of PLAGF forces (Y1) defending a breakout of AO Arrow, as well as a convoy of escaping forces along Ruta 255 (Y2).

AO Stone:

Our submarines Tupi and ARA San Juan are to continue stalking the PLAN 1st Fleet groups and attack the SAGs when the opportunity presents. The Tupi is to target the fleet flagship Hangzhou, a particularly large and capable destroyer. The San Juan is to target the Tank Landing Ships (LST) of Group 2. We have been successful at evading their detection, but now is time to attack. Be aware that both targets are escorted by a significant number of ships. ASW air patrols have been heavy and constant, but even the PLAN will struggle to maintain a dozen sorties per day - and many hundreds of expendable sonar buoys - for weeks on end. Penetrate their screen and sink either the targets or their escorts.

Service Support Order: Resupply Airbases

Our ongoing combat operations have been quite successful of late, but they have significantly consumed the available supply of military equipment, munitions, and spare parts. An army runs on its stomach, while our operational tempo runs on our ordnance supply inventory, and it's time to make sure that both are filled. Command has requested a variety of air freight missions in order to put us back on our feet:

Kh-25 Karens: Rio Turbio has a variety of equipment needs, but in particular it has a critical lack of Kh-25s. The Kh-25/Kh-25M (NATO: AS-10 'Karen') is a family of Soviet lightweight air-to-ground missiles with a modular range of guidance systems and a range of 10 km. The anti-radar variant (Kh-25MP) is known to NATO as the AS-12 'Kegler' and has a range up to 40 km. Designed by Zvezda-Strela, the Kh-25 is derived from the laser-guided version of the Kh-23 Grom (AS-7 'Kerry'). The Kh-25 remains in widespread use despite the apparent development of a successor, the Kh-38. These missiles have been collected at Morón Air Base, Argentina (SADM), and are available for immediate air freight. [SADM > SAWT] - 8,000 kg. [Light Cargo]

Kh-58 Kilters: Puerto Natales has become a hub for the entire combat theater. Connected by highway, rail, and river to a variety of major bases, it is a clearinghouse for all sorts of important supplies. However, shipping capacity limitations have created an immediate need for more Kh-58s. The Kh-58 (NATO: AS-11 'Kilter') is a Soviet anti-radiation missile with a range of 120 km. As of 2004 the Kh-58U variant was still the primary anti-radiation missile of Russia and its allies. It is being superseded by the Kh-31. El Bosque Air Base, Chile (SCBQ) has the munitions that are required and they are prepared for transport. [SCBQ > SCNT] - 15,000 kg. [Medium Cargo]

AIM-120 AMRAAMs: Rio Gallegos is a major air base for Argentina and a key part of our defense. However, a recent offensive by China and subsequent naval bombardment caused an emergency evacuation of the city. All sorts of supplies are needed by the air base in order to get it back into operation, but command has prioritized the delivery of AIM-120s. The AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) is an American beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile capable of all-weather day-and-night operations. It uses active transmit-receive radar guidance instead of semi-active receive-only radar guidance. When an AMRAAM missile is launched, NATO pilots use the brevity code "Fox Three". This advanced munition has been temporarily stored at a weapons depot at Punta Indio Naval Air Base, Argentina (SAAI), and is now ready for delivery to Rio Gallegos. [SAAI > SAWG] - 25,000 kg [Heavy Cargo]

PLA TROOP MOVEMENTS

25 MARCH 2010

Heavy fighting occurs at the front. During BLUFOR CAS runs, the Argentine Armor initiates a push towards the highway and catches several PLA battalions in the open and destroys them.
The PLAN Marines attempting a flanking maneuver come under heavy bombardment by the Argentine Navy Skyhawks, as Argentine Armor pushes into them, the PLAN Marines their last full measure before surrendering, by eradicating the MEch Inf Rgt 8th of 9th BDE. Yet, Most PLA troops make it through, and another blocking force is left behind; the 8th Separate PLAN Marine Engineers.

As night falls, the PLA has established a new defensive line north of town of Ankle on the marshlands, covering Highway 9, the only route South.

RESULT:

Several battalions deleted from PLA and ingame map.

Argentine Mech Inf Regiment 8 from 9th Brigade is ground to dust. The marker is left on the map for General Humberto. You may assume the remainders are taken into other units. Some other units, like Tank Cav. Rgt. 9, EA IX BDE, is half strenght, as is 6th Armored Group, 4th ARBDE.

Naval Aviation Orders - Operation Rorschach, 27 MAR 10

quote:

To all sailors, marines, and naval airmen,

The Long Afternoon War campaign is progressing at speed, with major maneuvers occurring all over the theater. The shifting battle lines are providing us with new opportunities, but also new challenges. Enemy ground troops are in retreat from AO Arrow and AO Bolt, and we are in hot pursuit. But reinforced naval forces are implacable as ever and remain in full control of Tierra del Fuego, the Islas Malvinas, and the Argentine Sea. Even now, their carrier fleet appears to be moving south west, and is perhaps intending to transit Cape Horn and enter the stormy Drake Passage - threatening our control of AO Dart. It is likely that we are entering into a new phase of the war.

Good luck,
Adm. Sampaio

AO Dart:

Our naval forces have advanced in the west and we are now on the precipice of securing large swathes of the Magellan Strait. The Ecuadorian Fleet has secured Isla Carlos III, and is holding anchor there. A PLAN littoral group has become trapped in Seno Otway, unable to exit the area without transiting the Geronimo Channel and being ambushed by our frigates and corvettes at close range. Ford Squadron aboard the ARA 25 de Mayo will help complete our dominance of the area. First, overfly the Vasquez Glacier Radar (W1) and destroy any threats. While the PLA has mostly withdrawn from the area, there may still be troops defending the radar who were left behind. Naval Intelligence believes the site is defended by AAA guns (Shilkas) and perhaps MANPADs (Iglas). Argentine Marines will be ordered to fly in via helicopter and secure the strategic location once the it has been deemed pacified. Avoid damaging the radar if possible. Once the site has been cleared, move on to the last remaining military outpost (W2) and strike any troops who are still in the area. Our naval forces want to sail southeast to contest more of the Magellan Strait, and we want to make sure there are no remaining anti-ship missiles that could challenge their movement. Finally, if conditions permit (such as if W1 and W2 are undefended) then the squadron leader may continue on to perform reconnaissance of a group of PLAN corvettes (W3) patrolling the mouth of the Magdalena Channel. Destroying these corvettes would help stretch PLAN assets in the area and weaken their control of the channel.

AO Bolt:

With the Chinese PLAGF retreating in the face of heavy attacks by our ground, helicopter, and fixed-wing forces, they have been congregating at the site of the Punta Arenas port, in Chile. This has been the heart of the Chinese occupation of Chile since the beginning of the war, and will doubtless be a tough nut to crack. Of the original seven combat brigades of Chinese soldiers - potentially the entirety of the 41st and 42nd Group Armies of the Guangzhou Military Region - they still have at least four combat effective brigades streaming towards the city. There are also multiple SAM installations protecting the region. Additionally there are many PLAN ships in the area, in addition to those that are defending the Magellan Strait to the south. Still, this many troops in one area and reliant upon a single port area represents a major opportunity to disrupt their invasion. If we can cut their link to their Magellan Strait supply chain, then their army will twist on the vine.

To this end, CSAD is enacting a significant operation intended to strike the port and strand the ground forces before they can escape to Tierra del Fuego. PLAAF air operations are considered temporarily limited due to their losses, so we believe to have temporary air superiority. We know the location of the major port areas, and should be able to identify many strike coordinates ahead of time. Still, with all the mobile, static, and shipborne SAMs in the area, this operation will require a significant Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) in order to succeed at our strikes.

Dodge's F-14B Tomcats will be tasked with providing a Combat Air Patrol during this operation. Your AIM-7P Sparrows and AIM-9M Sidewinders, together with your exceptional flight capabilities, will present a formidable threat to most Chinese aircraft. While threats are believed to be low, their presence will offer a protective assurance to our other forces. Travel to WP Almagro and establish a protective CAP. Beware of the major SAM threats including a Type 054A frigate, an HQ-7 SAM to the northeast and an SA-10 SAM to the south.

Devil's F/A-18C Hornets are to perform strike operations throughout the Punta Arenas battlespace. There are many potential targets, and the Air Force will be performing a dedicated SEAD / DEAD mission to eliminate the air defenses. Your role will be to provide a flexible depth to the attack - using your own HARMs to silence radars, and following up with LGBs to destroy the threats. Additionally, 16x TALDs and 12x AGM-84Ds are currently available for use against naval targets. Major threats include the organic defenses of the PLAGF brigades near Punta Arenas Air Base, static defenses near the ports themselves, as well as the sea-based defenses of the Type 054A frigate and escort corvette off shore. The flight leader will need to prioritize Devil's load-outs according to their preferred targets.

Enfield's Gr. 9 Harriers shall perform targeted JDAM strikes against the two major port areas used by the PLAN. The northern one is Puerto Tres Puentes, and the southern one is Puerto Punta Arenas. The coordinates are well-known and should enable a high-altitude strike. Destroying the ports should limit the ability for the PLA to either resupply or transport their ground forces by sea. However, the ports may be defended by air defenses of various types, in addition to the Type 054A frigate. Given the close proximity of Punta Arenas to Bella Vista, a second strike sortie using Mavericks or other ordnance may be possible.

**Strategic Assessment:**

**1. PLA Marines' Situation:**
- The PLA Marines of the 1st and 2nd Brigades are currently trapped in a minefield, with a significant portion of their combat power concentrated in and around the hazardous area.
- This presents an opportunity to exploit their vulnerability and inflict substantial damage on their combat capability through targeted use of cluster munitions.

**2. Targeted Destruction of 1st and 2nd Brigades:**
- By employing cluster munitions with precision, we can effectively neutralize the 1st and 2nd Brigades, eliminating their combat effectiveness and removing them from the battlefield.
- This action will disrupt enemy operations and significantly degrade their ability to engage or maneuver effectively.

**3. Disruption of Support by Fire Positions:**
- The 7th Brigade is positioning itself to provide support by fire to cover the withdrawal of the 1st and 2nd Brigades as they attempt to self-recover from the minefield.
- Targeting and destroying the 7th Brigade will delay the withdrawal process of the trapped brigades, further hampering their ability to regroup and reinforcing the effectiveness of our actions.

**4. Operational Opportunities:**
- Exploiting the current situation presents a strategic advantage, allowing us to weaken enemy forces and disrupt their operational capabilities.
- By capitalizing on the vulnerability of the trapped brigades and disrupting support elements, we can achieve significant battlefield success and shape the outcome of the engagement.

**5. Execution Plan:**
- Coordinate targeted strikes using cluster munitions to neutralize the 1st and 2nd Brigades trapped in the minefield.
- Simultaneously engage and eliminate the 7th Brigade to disrupt support by fire operations and delay enemy withdrawal efforts.
- Maintain operational flexibility and adaptability to capitalize on evolving battlefield dynamics and exploit enemy vulnerabilities effectively.

**6. Conclusion:**
- Targeting the trapped PLA Marines and disrupting support elements presents a prime opportunity to degrade enemy combat capabilities and gain a decisive advantage on the battlefield.
- Swift and decisive action, coupled with precision targeting and coordinated maneuvers, will enable us to capitalize on this opportunity and achieve our strategic objectives effectively.

TENTATIVE AIR FORCE PLAN

SEAD: Provided by Chilean F-16s with HARMs and Peruvian Su-25Ts with KH ARMs.

AFAC: One F-16 with a TGP, lasing targets

Air Interdiction:

Strike asset 1: Mirage F1 carrying as many LGBs as possible, lased by AFAC F-16. Targets of opportunity.

Strike asset 2: JDAM-equipped F-16s using their own TGP at each of the two major ports, hitting targets such as the port itself and ships near the port

We will strike Punta Arenas itself. Goal is to degrade the Air Defences within, and to open up avenues for further strike missions inside the city. We anticipate low amount of enemy air, if any at all, and thus likely can have less CAP assets in the sky. Latest intel estimates that PLAAF has no or few airplanes available over this AO.

IP for this mission will be COLO, where each flight will meet up and proceed into Punta Arenas.

To learn from the mistakes of our prior task, the F-16s will be assigned to hunt on their own.

Acceptable level of risk for the F-16s is low, and medium for other airframes. I will identify the port areas more specifically as T1 and T2, and I expect the Mirage Pilots to be able to find them visually on a clear day.

WEATHER FORECAST:

Winds from the West, winds between 5 and 10 knots. Sky is clear. Temperature is 19 Celcius.
