Aren't you ever afraid that you might miss, let's call them "story beats", if you do manage to sequence break on your first playthrough? If I start playing a new game I like to try and stick to the "intended" path to fully experience the story, and only see if I can break the game on subsequent playthroughs.

I think for the shinespark puzzle you have to hold the d-pad in the direction you're gonna be running in as you hit the ledge, so hold left in this case. Then you can hold down again to store the speed again.
