Now an all around Amazing Race thread! You can check out the Season 36 cast courtesy of Sting 64!STING 64 posted:i made a makeshift OP if a mod or SGB wanna slide it in to the existing one The Amazing Race is back with season 35, this time with 90 minute episodes because of the writers strike. I guess this is actually the 36th season to be filmed, but they created and filmed a season based on having 90 minute episodes. So there is still a season filmed in 2022 that has not been aired. Don't worry if you haven't seen the previous season that aired, they will promptly spoil the winner in the first 10 minutes! This season features the Express Pass & a mandatory all teams vote U-turn at some point. This season also doesn't have any non-elimination legs, although I assume they still might have a non elimination episode / double leg. The season is going back to airports being part of the game, no chartered flights. Didn't seem to be any easy to hate teams in the first episode, so seems like a good start to the season. The website I got this cast and occupations from had them in order of how they finished Leg 1, so I shuffled them around a bit. I liked Joe and Ian early on, but I think I'm shifting my faves right now to Greg and John. Also the colour-coding is really blatant this season, huh.

Yea not sure if the color coding is just for the viewers or also their production and camera crews so they know who to keep following... Also interesting that all their clothing is brand free, but the backpacks still have some branding on it, although hard to get a good view of the brands...

Digging the vibe of pretty much every team so far, hopefully that continues. Love the 90 minute episodes too, shame that it won't be a standard going forward though. The logic behind doing the swords challenge over the spa day was sound but man even being confident I would pick it up quickly there's absolutely no way I would have passed up "get a 30 minute deep tissue massage" to save maybe 10 minutes if everything went perfectly.

Weirdly enough google says it takes a bit longer to get to the pit stop from the park too. So 5 minutes, if you do it right. I think they were expecting a lot more people to stop the massage and eat time that way.

It's the one massage parlor where you don't dare ask for the happy ending.

Please give me the sad ending… Good season so far, even if my wife and I joked about it being some sort of weird creepy incest casting. Are we nutjobs or did some of these people seem awfully close.

Not sure if it's lucky or just cool to have a detour literally made for a team to crush. Asian grocery store owners having to get groceries in an Asian market?

I mean there was no guarantee they'd speak the language either, it just so happened that half of one team did (and it wasn't even the exact same dialect). I think the team that's quietly surprising me is Greg and John, I didn't pay much attention to them early on but I think right now they're my favourites.

Asian grocery store owners having to get groceries in an Asian market? There's always stuff that happens this way. I think most of the time it's rad because it's awesome just watching someone pop off. I forget which team it was but last season you had the one where they had to put together a motorcycle and one girl was like a literal mechanic as a hobby and she just blew past four teams who were all like "what the gently caress???"

Watching those girls panic and use their express pass at a clearly inopportune time and having it immediately bite them was funny.

It was hard to parse whether or not they needed to get on that boat in the first place in order to use the Express Pass - it felt like they were trying to save it, but ran into a boat traffic jam and realized it would be better to just move past the task. I kinda feel like coming in sixth during a leg when you used your pass means that you DID use it at the right time though. Better to use it and move from last to 6th than use it to jump from 6th to 1st. It was only good for one more leg (though who knows if the next ep counts as Leg 3 or Leg 4) and you gotta get there if you wanna be able to use it.

IcePhoenix posted:They didn't move from last to sixth, they moved from fourth to sixth! Right, and that IS very funny, but I was talking about the current leg and not their prior finish. They pretty clearly weren't finishing in sixth if they didn't use the pass, there's a pretty significant chance they come in last without it. They were on the record as wanting to use it to try to come in first in a leg, but that's way less important than straight-up surviving to continue racing at all Granted that's moot given the "not a non-elimination" non-elimination but that's irrelevant to their decision-making

They just panicked about needing to queue at the boats and didn't factor in that all the other teams needed to as well, including all the ones behind them. The "proper" way to use it would have been to see where they were after they finished it, then use it for the detour to skip ahead.

Yeah I have no idea what place they were in, I got very confused by who was in what group (both planes and boats). Your proper way makes more sense. I still think it was smart for them to have used it on this leg, at least, even if they did a poor job at optimizing it.

I think they're just trying to make this season harder; between the lotus roadblock, the detours last week, and then more physical exertion + the roadblock this week, probably to shut up the people who were saying the last few seasons were too easy.

This U-turn thing is incredibly boring. It removes all the strategy of deciding if you want to use it or not, guessing if a team is in front or behind you, etc.
