Now an all around Amazing Race thread! You can check out the Season 36 cast courtesy of Sting 64!STING 64 posted:i made a makeshift OP if a mod or SGB wanna slide it in to the existing one The Amazing Race is back with season 35, this time with 90 minute episodes because of the writers strike. I guess this is actually the 36th season to be filmed, but they created and filmed a season based on having 90 minute episodes. So there is still a season filmed in 2022 that has not been aired. Don't worry if you haven't seen the previous season that aired, they will promptly spoil the winner in the first 10 minutes! This season features the Express Pass & a mandatory all teams vote U-turn at some point. This season also doesn't have any non-elimination legs, although I assume they still might have a non elimination episode / double leg. The season is going back to airports being part of the game, no chartered flights. Didn't seem to be any easy to hate teams in the first episode, so seems like a good start to the season. The website I got this cast and occupations from had them in order of how they finished Leg 1, so I shuffled them around a bit. Yea not sure if the color coding is just for the viewers or also their production and camera crews so they know who to keep following... Also interesting that all their clothing is brand free, but the backpacks still have some branding on it, although hard to get a good view of the brands...

Not sure if it's lucky or just cool to have a detour literally made for a team to crush. Asian grocery store owners having to get groceries in an Asian market?

Was kind of funny all the shots they got of the teams and the camera crews riding in the Rickshaws. Must have been quite miserable for everyone.

"First ones on the boat!" I've missed many seasons of TAR, but not sure how often it was so clear which team was going home so early in an episode.

It is funny they made it look like it was some close race between the last 2 teams, but Todd & Ashley were the only ones not to share the mat at the end.

Got to feel bad for all the camera people keeping up with the 3 teams running in the wrong direction. Thought they were just gonna have a short jog to the subway station.

IcePhoenix posted:Yeah, the cards were representing people at previous dinners, and the years matched up with the dinner from that year. Then the teams had to give the correct food to the correct person based on the menu and the name card. I just rewatched it and Phil describes the guests as Nobel laureates and Greg or John described the challenge and specifically said all the guests themselves were Nobel prize winners.

Yea, it's a season of mostly very likable racers. "Dad dad dad dad dad" gets pretty tiring, but no real menace in it.

Khanstant posted:Oh okay, well, everyone else got by so I guess I can't say they chose that poorly but I think Anna Leigh not taking the Riverdance was a head scratcher so assumed they had to do dad for some reason. Then having him do athletic thing number 2 after having done 9x Riverdance crash course was also not what I would've thought they'd pick if they had an option lol. They pretty much covered it at the start of the episode. Anna Leigh had done 6 road blocks, Her dad had only did 4, so he had to do them both. Likewise Rob had done 6 so Corey did both road blocks this episode. The only positive to Rob & Corey not winning, would be them being a guarantee to come back on a returnee season. But all 3 teams seem like just really nice people, so no bad winners possible this season.

Definitely weird having someone panhandle for money while a camera crew is with them. But also the times when they made the last team start with $0, it was because it was a non-elimination leg twist. Which they seem to have also gotten rid of, which should stay gone IMO. Long 2 episode legs are okay as they likely have to plan those out ahead. Instead of doing a surprise non-elimination leg that the producers could possibly call in if a favorite team is in the back.

Cacator posted:I don't understand why Rob and my future husband Corey went for the far away challenge first when they knew they had to loop back which was a huge waste of time. Would depend on where they had to go after the scramble how much of a waste of time it was to do the far away one first. Seems pretty clear from the edit, they struggled some with all 3 of the scramble challenges, and by far took the most time to do the Trapeze challenge. Is weird though that they showed Garrett and Joel going back for their notebook at one point in the season, but seemingly it didn't help them at all on the final challenge.

Not sure if there's a reason or demand for a Season 36 thread or just to keep it all contained here. But the new season premiere is set for March 13th, 2024. This season was filmed prior to season 35 at the end of 2022. Still with the Covid restriction of using the Amazing Race charter plane. The new season will continue to be 90 minute episodes, but unlike season 35, was originally filmed and planned to be the standard 60 minute episodes. Doubt it will be that difficult to reedit the footage for 90 minutes, but will probably be more BS footage from the detours & roadblocks instead of extra challenges season 35 seemed to have. Can just see the cast here -> https://amazingrace.fandom.com/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_36

Really odd that Phil told teams they were still racing but still eliminated the last team to arrive. Really thought they were just going to get the non-elimination episode / not leg out of the way on the first leg. The 90 minutes was nice to get to know a lot of teams, but I really felt the 60 minute episode reedited to 90 for the premier. That 1st detour was like 40 minutes of airtime.

The X-man cometh posted:Does anyone know what teams do at night between legs? Almost all of the racing is during the day, what do they do after they reach the mat? The first teams come in hours before the last ones, do they just go out and see the tourist sites? Probably sleep & shower and I assume they likely do a lot of the confessionals during the "downtime."

Seems tough to make an all foot leg of the race where teams will just end up finding the wrong clue boxes and it not be obvious it's the wrong one. Seems like you could just have gotten the road block clue from the detour people.

STING 64 posted:i think this was filmed a while back when covid was still weird with a lot of the countries, they might be restricted to very small parcels of land they can play around with Yea it was filmed in 2022, so still likely some covid restrictions and they are using the private Amazing Race plane for the flights. Like I said though, could just get the Road Block clue from the detour judge / person instead of a 2nd box. Rick posted:Lol the decline in the strictness of the face paint judge after like team 4 was exponential. But couple in pink were doing screen quality makeup. I think she had several specific things to look for from the teams. And half the challenge being some teams trying to make it perfect and others not giving a poo poo. Although it's also possible & likely that the producers changed the strictness with how hot it was and so many teams literally sweating the makeup off.

FlashFearless posted:So this was filmed prior to last season? I had read that, but then got confused because at the beginning Phil referenced, "Last season we went to a new country for the first time," and I assumed he was talking about Slovenia. Was that a sneaky edit to trick us, or am I just confused? Yes. They filmed this season (36 on air) in 2022 & then filmed last season (35 on air) in 2023 because of the actor's & writer's strikes. They did it because they wanted to film the fall season with the intention of being 90 minute episodes. They have since reedited this current season to be 90 minutes, but everything was filmed & planned out to be 60 minute episodes. Season 34, they went to Jordan for the 1st time so Phil's comment was accurate and didn't need to be edited.

Running half the race in Central / South America with multiple competitors that speak Spanish and / or have actual family in those countries. Also had to be the best post leg segment they've done with Phil, right?

Demon_Corsair posted:It’s wild that amber could just walk the teams through the puzzle. But I guess in a competition, there probably aren’t many rules against helping each other. Hard to really come up with a rule against it. How could talking to another team be against the rules. It happens in some way in just about every challenge, with teams asking for directions to certain tasks in them. In reality, it's a course that has multiple variations, would have prevented the teamwork entirely having a different puzzle / race course for each driver / car.
