I imagine lots of people would not have questioned the demon thing if they all looked more like Qual.

I think the risk of judging the lethality of this place based on what has happened with the clones is that you're not taking into account what made em. If any group going in has to contend with clones of themselves (so, a roughly even match, you have to deliberately use teamwork to beat them, but the clones can also do this) then any losses to traps or mimics hurt even more. Then you gotta deal with whatever monstrous thing can make a clone of Frieren with the same amount of mana and all.

The Copies Teamwork is probably inferior to the real ones, as they can’t communicate and make plans outside of what they would silently do together.

Seeing Serie talk wistfully about her now-dead pupil that she’s obviously sad about while being like “i-it’s not like I liked her or anything baka!” is just too funny. Especially with the knowledge that she eventually honors Flamme’s wishes exactly as written :allears:

Well not really. Serie's students are explicitly an exclusive club for the talented as she stated.

I imagine Serie has a minimum requirement for someone to even be allowed to be a 10th class apprentice.

It was stated being 5th Class was when you are considered a proper mage.

I mean, he didn't neglect his basic defenses; that's the thing. He was literally a master specialist at basic defenses.

I think the implication here is that just being ignorant isn't good enough. It's meaningless to be able to visualize yourself as cutting through the impenetrable cloak if you don't actually know enough magic to understand why it's impenetrable. In order to do what Ubel did, you have to actually understand how the defensive spells woven into the cloth function and still be able to visualize yourself slicing through it, and that's why most people can't hack it.

Denken said it well, she intellectually understands it, but goes through her intuition instead, which is just not how normal minds work. As Sense said it’s basically a super power.

Ubel also has her empathetic magic copying which is something that also doesn’t follow the normal way for mages.

I feel like the issue isn't really that the First Class Exam is too hard (because it isn't, when compared with what's waiting out there), but that the Association isn't doing enough work (or any work) to stop people who shouldn't have been there from taking it, thus losing lots of perfectly good Second Class mages.

Well they state you have to at least be 5th Class to be allowed to take the test. And how dangerous the test is depends on the proctor.

To be exact Ubel evil translates to “bad, ill, nauseous, sick, foul”

böse is the evil that translates to “angry, bad, wicked, nasty, mad, sinister”

Ubel has a whole magic that only works if she manages to empathize with somebody which means she isn't a sociopath or anything, at least not in the textbook sense. If anything she actually seems really good at picking up what actually makes people tick, and yeah I think is hanging around with Land not just because she wants to be able to copy his broken as gently caress magic but also because she thinks it's funny just how detached he is and is enjoying that she's getting an actual challenge trying to make him open up.

I don't think it's a spell, I think it's just a weird trait of Ubel.

In hindsight I should've figured it out before being told from the themes of Frieren but it still was a surprise moment for me finding out that the demon king saw through Frieren's mana suppression at first glance

It's particularly poignant point to me since we also find out that Serie is better at mana suppression than Frieren. It all makes sense now why Frieren was the one who would defeat the demon king.

Also Frieren's max is about equal to Serie's suppressed.

How'd you figure?

Cause Lernan was able to figure out Frieren's max as being about equal to Serie, then Serie expressed disappointment he was not able to see that she was suppressing her mana too.

Aura has a big time gimmick that only a handful of non-demons in the world could reliably defend against, and she doesn't HAVE to use it, which makes it like double powerful. I don't think its that she relied on it too much, its just she got tricked. It works 100% guaranteed as long as she has more mana than her opponent. And you can see mana. She could probably have used regular offensive magic or whatever if she wanted to but she preferred turning peoples friends into enemies and puppet mastering.

If she knew Frieren had like a bazillion more mana than her she would have probably tried something else OR not fought her because Demons are cowardly and obey hierarchy

Frieren herself said she probably could have won by just sicing her enter army on her.

After seeing the Frieren and Fern vs Frieren doppelgänger fight I don't know anymore. Fern manhandled Lugner, and Frieren and Fern barely came out on top over a copy of Frieren. Frieren also killed Draht with no effort. Frieren for sure took the guaranteed win, but I don't think Aura could've won head to head either.

Frieren's own words where that the undead army could have overwhelmed her with numbers.

'you can't be a first-class mage because you can't imagine yourself being one' makes some vague sense with the other chumps but when used with the circular logic of 'you think i am a giant baby who will fail you out of spite, therefore you fail' it just becomes the equivalent of serie nailing a 'no frieren(s) allowed' sign to the door of her clubhouse. which is her right, but also lmao

Hey she did also give her a chance by saying "tell me your favorite magic is not garbage baby magic" too.
