I got the will to drive myself sleepless
I've never had the chance to play the original version of EO past like 10 minutes I tried it on an emulator, but I do remember the previous boss being the first moment I got walled from progressing further in Untold. I had zero form of managing accuracy debuffs with how I allotted my skills.

What the...?!

S-Stace...!

And that's what Bite looks like without Sapping...

Well, aren't you a tricky one.

Tsk...

drat it... retreat!

I was genuinely surprised when that happened. Muckdiles may not be as strong as their EO2 counterparts, but they're very tricky.

Hey, that's pretty...

Hm... Stay back.

HEY, OVER HERE! STEP ON THE FLOWERS!

Oh! Me first! Me first!

One more step and I'll bind your legs.

Finally, I thought it wouldn't be able to hold my weight...

Hmm...

What is it?

See here, these footsteps here don't match our own.

Oh! What do you think, Sal?

Hm. Rina, are these your footsteps? They look smaller than usual.

You think I'd be walking around mud and water wearing only socks?

I can confirm, she has been on top of me for a while now...

Then who-- U-UWAAAAA!!!

"Music: Red and Black"

Monster...! Out of our way!

Melissa... wait!

I warn thee, step no further into this vale!

As the shadow steps into the light, it is revealed to be a youthful-seeming girl. Her glare at you, however, smacks more of malice than innocence.

*gasp*

Girl, I like your gaze.

Everyone, keep quiet! We are the Mikado Guild, sent by the Radha to investigate a report about a humanoid life form. Could that be you?

Kupala, huh? I'm--

The girl disappears as quickly as she came. Could she be the humanoid life form...?

WAIT! Dammit, I had so much to ask!

Bye bye, red eyes.

So they exist... I can't believe it.

Neat.

Easy there Duncan, I know you are excited, but at this rate she's going to think we're trying to capture her.

Wasn't that the plan?

Come on, we have to finish this floor.

Ja.

Then you really do have braver souls than mine.

Mine is dark.

*Humming*

What'd you find? A Bug Nest, Strawberry, and a Sea Branch? I bet you could find other useful things in the forest, even if no one's requesting them.

Nah.

I'd like to learn how to gather plants someday...

Thank you so much, for everything.

Pain Aspis...

Dr. Hoffman, check this new medicine!

Ah, impressive. Strawberries and Ant Honey... Well, I can't really complain when the results are this good. Excellent job, Heilen.

Are you sure you'll be okay?

I'm not letting some bats block my way. Right, Salvador?

. . .

Salvador?

Hm? Yes.

*sigh* What's with you lately?

Try to hide now!

I think he heard you.

Bleh.

O-OH...!

Is that...?

You obtain a purple crystal shard that emits a wondrous light. It releases a low pitch and dazzling glow, as if resonating with something... Perhaps it opens the purple crystals entwined with ivy, seen elsewhere in the Labyrinth.

So we can use it to open the violet doors?

Yes! Yes, we can!

Mine.

Did someone say 5% higher chance to get a Narcissus? No? Okay, then.

I wish I could say anything about the enemies but... Just imagine these 2 encounters a million times.

Speed boost.

1st Turn allows a party member to go first. Ignore the description, the skill has a 100% chance at Lv. 1. Further levels only reduce the TP and... Why would you need that?

*sigh...*

Stace, you're laying on the mud.

I don't care, that was exhausting...

And on top of Rina.

O h.

One of my favourite floor names.

2 Ice mists and a Blaze Oil? Okay game...

Esperen un momento.

No way, we just arrived here.

The girl could be there, we need to hurry!

What we need is a plan, and by plan I mean flames.

Status Resistances:

Bind Resistances:
: 65% : 65% : 65%

Corotrangul is the first boss I would call difficult in EO1. Having access to ailments, binds and high Phys/Ice damage is a lot compared to the previous bosses. Let's start with Ice Breath, 25% chance to inflict sleep doesn't sound like a lot, but having a chance to hit 2-4 times makes the skill quite scary. To make matters worse, Corotrangul will follow up with Flood, dealing heavy Ice damage to the entire party. While Tackle doesn't have one shot potential unless you're underleveled, but it will probably kill anyone who doesn't have full HP.

Then we have the "non-lethal" kit. How does a 75% ATK reduction to the entire party and having a party member fully bound sounds? The ATK reduction can be annoying but you can use Fire magic instead, right? Well, Aquaveil is here to ruin your day. This defensive buff will make Corotrangul take 1-2 damage from incoming fire attacks. Now, let's see our options.

Yolanda is tanky enough to survive Corotrangul's attacks. Having Crush, 2-Hit and maxed ATK UP will let her deal severe single target damage. She, and every other physical attacker, can also use a Blaze Oil to hit its weakness.

Being held back only by his low STR and low ATK weapon, Salvador is able to destroy Corotrangul in a few turns thanks to Apollon + Multihit. With the recently unlocked 1st Turn, he can ignore enemy turn speed and let an ally go first with a 100% success rate.

Probably the most useful party member for this fight. Stace can completely nullify Ice Breath and Flood, making Corotrangul waste several turns. Her only weakness would be getting hit by Coiling. If her arms get bound, she'll be completely useless for a turn, leaving the team exposed to Ice and Phys damage.

Unfortunately for Duncan, Bait only works against physical attacks, leaving Duncan with only Drain and imbued basic attacks as his offensive tools.

Heilen can use Lv.5 Immunize and answer Corotrangul's multitarget skills with Salve, assuming he doesn't fall asleep. With a War Mace and a Blaze Oil he can deal some damage, but don't expect to see some crazy numbers...yet.

Melissa's role, as usual, is a glass cannon. Her low HP, VIT and DEF leave her very vulnerable to Corotrangul's attacks, especially Tackle. In exchange, she can toast Corotrangul with ease thanks to Lv.10 Flame. As long as it doesn't have Aquaveil active, of course.

Cantata is an interesting choice. As a Troubadour she tends to cast Bravery at the start of the fight, turning Ice Gaze into a free turn. She also has Ymir at Lv. 5, reducing incoming Ice damage by 40%. Erasure can be used to get rid of Aquaveil.

Just like Yolanda and Salvador, Misaka can deal severe single target damage. While not as tanky, Midareba can turn Corotrangul to shreds. She doesn't have Orochi to hit its fire weakness, but when you deal this much physical damage... Do you really need that?

And finally, we have Rina. Yet another fight where you wouldn't expect to see a Hexer, and guess what? She's still amazing! Ice Breath? Use Cranial, Tackle? Use Immobile, Aquaveil? Use Frailty. Yes, that's right. Frailty can dispel Aquaveil. Dear Atlus, why would you lock Hexers behind the 4th Stratum...

You know the deal, vote up to 3 party members to deal with Corotrangul. Voting will be up for a few days, I've been writing these updates non-stop and I would like a break. See you in the next update! :atlus:

Update: 20

"Music: The Lounge Where We Speak of Tomorrow"

How long are we going to stay here? I don't want another Guild to reach the new Stratum before us.

I...don't really have a plan. Heheh...

*sigh* That sounds like you. Allow me to join Duncan, then.

Heyaaaa! This way Ms. Ronin.

Ohoho~ It seems that Tsukino Misaka is needed.

I'm going too.

You're a Doctor, silly~ Leave this to me, okay?

*sigh*

Sorry, but there's something I need to do. I can't help you this time.

That's okay, Salvador! Where's Melissa?

Inside her room, talking to MY roller. I need something to break... :argh:

I-I see...! How about this...

Woo ho! Let's get going t-- Huh?

H-Hey... Would you mind if I take your place this time?

Hm? Why all of a sudden?

I've been here since the start, and not a single time have I been chosen to fight the ruler of the Stratum. I enjoy keeping you guys safe but... I want to prove myself, you know?

Pft...! Aww, you're so cute. Fiiiine, you can go. Just remember to stay behind Stace at all times and--

Jeez... Don't treat me like a kid. Come on, let's go.

"The Thousand Year Old Blue Woodlands"

. . .

It's okay to be scared, Heilen. The first time I raised my shield I ended up closing my eyes out of pure fear, allowing my training partners to send me flying with a single blow. Good times...:allears:

I don't know... Maybe we should go back and let Duncan take care of it...

Heilen-kun, you are a true warrior. Stand proud and let me hear an Osu!

O-Osu...?

Osu!

Ha... Hahaha, okay. I can do this! OSU!

You're so loud.

It's as if an ocean was suddenly transported to the middle of the forest. Within the blue-tinted oasis, you see a distant shadow.

Over there!

Leave this one to me and Heilen okay?

You slowly approach it...

Easy! We're not your enemies.

Do you remember us? We're the Mikado Guild.

We are here to investigate a humanoid life-form, that's all!

H-He's telling the truth...!

Cantata-chan...

Thy presence here violates the ancient pact between our peoples!

We know nothing about a pact. Please...if you could listen to what we have to s--

I have warned thee, but thou paid me no heed. Face then the guardian of our holy land!

With this, the inhuman girl gives a sharp, high-pitched whistle. The sound resonates through the forest, and a huge creature appears in response.

N-No!

Get behind me Cantata! She has no intention of talking.

Such is the girl's cry before vanishing into the forest, but you have no time for pursuit! The monster that flies through the air as easily as swimming is about to attack!

"Dyed in Blood" :siren:Corotrangul Fight

You know the deal with Misaka, Overhead + Midareba = big numbers.

Heilen has a couple of points into ATK UP, with a Blaze Oil he should be able to deal decent damage.

I need to nullify Ice Breath since it has a chance to inflict sleep and I forgot to bring Theriaca B. Casting Ymir will let the party deal with Flood in turn two, without having to rely on Stace.

Tackle hurts a lot so I need Sapping.

(Just like with the ice turtle... I can do this!)

Is that all you got? You oversized fish!

Time to see some big numbers.

Bleh.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mant-- Oh, okay you were doing it on purpose.

Not bad Heilen, not bad at all...

If you attempt to hurt Cantata-chan... Then I, Tsukino Misaka, won't hold back! Sei! Sei! Sei!

I won't let you hurt my friends!

The elemental songs are very underrated.

You call that a tackle?

Sapping.exe

Better than new.

Close your mouth, will you?

Stop struggling and I'll make it quick...

A-Ahh...!

Cantata, out of the way!

Stace!

C-Can't... move...!

Help her, quickly.

Because of me, Miss Stace is...

Cantata, get back!

I can't do that, Miss Stace needs me! Fuwah!

Heh.

H-HNRG...!

(I'm pathetic... Even a little girl is braver than me. drat it, what can I even do to help? I'm not a fighter, I'm a doctor... What was I thinking coming all the way here--) H-Huh?!

Stay focused Doctor, I can feel the fire burning inside you.

Fire? What are you-- Now it's not the time, you gotta help Stace!

I'll cut its tail, then you'll finish it off. Be ready to follow my attack! HYA!

Wait...! I--

Seiya! Now, Doctor!

(Misaka's right... I can't help my guildmates by just waiting for the enemy to deal damage. To keep my friends safe...)

(And the person I care about the most...)

I HAVE TO FIGHT! HEEEEEEEEEEEEYA!

Huff..!

Miss Stace!

*pant...* *pant...*

OSU! :hfive:

"Get the Treasure"

Stace, are you okay? Let me treat your wounds

I'm fine... If it wasn't for my armor I would've...

Miss Stace, I'm so sorry!

I'm here to protect my companions. And more importantly, you. *boop* Hehe...ouch.

Hehe...

Where's the girl?

You know what it is?

Nein, but we should take it. Should we go back to town?

I can still walk... Besides, I'm also curious about the next Stratum.

Such courage!

Here we go...

"The Withered Forest"

I have mixed feelings when it comes to Sandy Barrens...

Oh, man...

Whew! I can finally take this off.

Aww...

Can't you just keep wearing the sweater?

We should all wear lighter clothes, a heat stroke can be quite dangerous.

Into the unknown!

Now, hold on a second...

A lonely, withered forest, unlike the other Strata you have seen, spreads before you. It would be prudent to return to town before investigating its dusty expanses. Radha Hall might have information regarding either the stone tablet or the mysterious girl.

"Festival of Worship"

That's right, Subaltern Quinn. The girl on the other hand...

Um, excuse me. What does it say there?

If I'm not mistaken, this engraving is some language beyond our ken. I shall assign the Radha's best researchers to it. With enough study, we may gain insight into this girl's precise nature. We'll keep the tablet safe with at Radha Hall. You should continue with your investigations.

Ejem...

:eyepop:

Heh, good job every... Hngh...!

Stace-chan!

Okay, that's it. We're going to see Dr. Hoffman. Can you take care of selling the Huge Fin, Misaka? I don't think there's a lot I can analyze there.

Hai hai! Come on, Cantata-chan.

Yes, Miss Ronin. See you later!

I'll be heading to my room, then. It's so lonely without my roller...

"The Lounge Where We Speak of Tomorrow"

Behold!

Huge Fin x1 unlocks Fin Bow ATK+88, STR+5, TEC+4. Price: 3400 En.

Good damage, STR and TEC? Hell yeah. I'll buy one for Salvador and Cantata.

I hear y've stepped into parts of t'forest what no soul has reached before. T'at Yggdrasil Labyrint'... I wonder how deep it goes...

Make no mistake Shilleka-chan. The Mikado Guild will be the first one to reach the bottom of the Labyrinth.

What sort of rumors?

Somet'in about t' Chieftain. T' regulars at t' Golden Deer say your Survivalist friend started t' rumors.

You mean Salvador-san? He would never do something like that!

All y'can do is follow your beliefs, I s'pose. T'only true t'ing is what y'see witcha own eyes.

"The Roadside Trees Outside the Window"

Good morning Dr. Hoffman. Yes, we did. But for now, can you take a look at Stace? She was strangled by a giant monster.

I'm telling you, I'm fin--

Hush. I'll need to remove your armor, please raise your arms.

Young explores tend to underestimate their injuries, nothing new under the sun. As for you, Heilen...

Yes, Dr. Hoffman?

I look forward to hearing about what mysteries and creatures lurk within that unknown place. It seems a wealth of rare items are being discovered in the unknown Stratum. Some of them might turn out to make some effective medicines. We've all got high hopes here.

Osu!

Hng..!

Oh, my bad...

No, out of my way.

You signed up a good crew?

Heeey! What's up? W-Where are the rest of you...? Don't tell me...

Mm-mm, Doctor Heilen is with Stace. She was strangled by the monster because of me... Rina went back to her room.

Heilen-san was the one who landed the killing blow. With some proper training, he could fight like a mighty Oni.

No way...

Perhaps I should teach him how to use axes. :unsmigghh:

I'm not a fan of sand, but at least I can wear my sarashi again.

Well, it sounds exciting, but be careful. You don't know what's down there, after all. I've seen a lot of explorers come and go from this pub, but none quite like you.

Aww... That's so sweet of you, Valerie.

Remember, though. You kids might be strong, but you're still human. Don't get cocky. I'd hate to see my favorite explorers pay for a silly mistake with their lives.

This time, we're tasked with finding a 100 Shell, the shell of a 100-year-old tortoise. The client's from a small village far to the west, but he's collapsed with fatigue. He says he can't return to his hometown without this shell. I don't know why that is... but could you please find him a 100 Shell?

You think the client is talking about the ice turtle?

Time to wear a top again... *sigh*

The client's lover entered the Labyrinth by himself, and hasn't come out yet. Have you heard of the landsknecht they called the Rainbow Swordsman? He's a nice kid who's always seen wearing a rainbow-colored bandana.

Yolanda?

Doesn't ring a bell, sorry...

He's a pretty skilled explorer, but his guildmates were injured during an excursion... So he's decided to continue the investigation on his own until their wounds heal. Last she heard, he was going to investigate the 16th floor. He may still be there if you look for him. I hope he's all right... Find him before anything happens to him, okay?

That poor girl must be so worried... Please, let me explore the new Stratum.

But... How are we going to track him?

Leave it to me.

Sal, you're back!

However, it'll have to wait. Remember what happened after Cernunnos?

The trial!

Mm-hm.

I'll go and get ready then, see you guys later!

*nod*

(Salvador-san... What are you hiding from us?)

And that's it for the Azure Rainforest, at least for now. Next up, Cernunnos rematch and proper exploration of Sandy Barrens. See you in the next update!

I almost forgot. If you're having issues with the images/gifs, try using this LPix link. It has every single update so far and I can update it whenever I want. You can find it on the main post as well.

Looks like the first round of Corotrangul wasn't too much trouble, that's good to see. Hexers are really showing how useful they are this early on, as well.
