hey MJeff I forgot to say it but I finally watched matrix 2 and 3 a few months ago. they rocked (3 has the unfortunate middle dip but the opening and closing acts are so so good so I forgive) Oh uhhh on topic: to promote matrix 5 they should run the Wardlow vs. 100 guys gimmick again I think

The Matrix would have been better off as a one off movie because they wont stop making sequels. I liked two and three and the path of neo game, but 4 was terrible and I have no faith in 5. It just become a souless franchise at this point.

 So the thing is, The Matrix is clearly the art film, the passion project of the franchise, a beautiful one-off with a clear, strong message wrapped up in a memorable piece of world building. When tasked to expand the franchise, the Wachowskis were savvy enough to realize that they absolutely could not, cannot, do what they did with the first. And such, Reloaded is loving brilliant because it's a hilariously over-the-top action movie. It's genius from a meta perspective because much like Tobe Hooper and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, they realized that the answer to the question "how do you follow up something so monumental" is "you don't". There's also The Animatrix, which is another really affecting and unique piece due to it being a series of shorts set in the world, with my personal favorites being Shinichiro Watanabe's shorts. You cannot recapture The Matrix, you can only create your art, tell a story in new ways. I have no comment on Resurrections as I haven't watched it nor do I really care to right now (but it has enough Wachowski involvement that I will one day) and I absolutely hate that there will be a fifth as it is definitely franchisization which is a bummer.
