I would think at the bare minimum you could floor the brake pedal and pull the emergency brake and maybe also kind of ease the car sidelong against a wall or curb and hope that the friction slows you down?
and that it does less damage to you and your passengers and your environment than achieving liftoff and kamikazeing a tollbooth from the sky...

You're not doing any of that in the two seconds before you become a smear on the pavement

Like a decade ago there was a whole thing where Toyota was making their gas pedals in such a way that people were getting poo poo wedged in them, or just going for the brakes and stomping on the gas instead, and despite it being like the most obvious quickly addressed possible reason for a car to be accelerating out of control it took almost a year and a nationwide recall for anyone to figure out what was happening, meanwhile the company was blaming cosmic rays and poo poo

In a regular car you can stand on the brake pedal, but then that will overheat the brakes and they don't work anymore. So the best thing to do is probably use the time that your brakes are slowing you down to find a safe way to crash.

In a 550 HP car it's probably still accelerating while you're standing on the brakes. And then the brakes overheat and you're accelerating a lot faster.

So yeah good luck.

Could be a number of reasons for dropping the accelerator not related to anything mechanical with the car, like she squeezed too hard or the coke was too strong.

some of the toyota unintended acceleration cases from ~10 years ago may have been caused by floor mats, but based on my understanding of the evidence it seems much more likely that the software used to control the electronic throttle was to blame. i believe you have toyota's PR strategy backwards here: they spent years blaming drivers for shoving objects next to the accelerator, when the problem actually was that they designed their software so badly that a cosmic ray could flip a single bit in the control computers and make the car go nuts mechanically

one of the wildest details from this scandal is that toyota's software had over 10,000 unprotected global variables, meaning that any part of the software could overwrite the data from another part of the software. and this seems to be how many of the deaths connected to toyotas back then happened: the car software got into an incorrect state that made it so that stepping on the brake did not disengage the engine/transmission/etc like it is supposed to

here is an article for anyone who is interested

If you stand on the brakes - *really* stand on the brakes - very few cars have got such lovely brakes/so much power that wont stop the car even with the motor at full power. The Bentley has got exceptionally big powerful brakes.

The issue of brakes overheating in this situation is more the drivers are not actually burying the brake pedal and panicking while trying to work out how to throw the car into neutral when half the shitboxes on the road don't have a easy way to do this anymore.

I hear the extra weight makes it so the brakes don't work at all, you just can't stop, but it seems like a decent trade.

Yeah this makes sense now that I think about it. Or maybe you have a driver who is older, or for whatever other reason can't press hard on the brakes. A car that weighs 2.5 tons would need hella brakes to stop quickly.

OTOH 550 HP does mean that if you have gas/break confusion, you are going 100 MPH before you work out what's happening.

I thought the vote thing was america but I could be wrong. I do remember watching a video on it though, there was also an example of bit flips on a plane which is terrifying.

No, the various forum experts have already weighed in and the verdict's that the SCADA software controlling this Luxury Range Rover (that has more lines than SpaceX's rocket landing sequence) has caused its ceramic brakes (that can literally stop a runaway Boeying 747 without turning into hot plasma) to cease up launcing the car across the falls, and somehow Toyota's responsible for it all.
