it'd be ideal if there were a midseason break the winter tournaments could fit into but that would just encourage fifa, not like they need it, to hold all world cups in the richest oil states for the rest of time

On the years where the cups happen, there should be an attempt to move the club games. That’s what I mean. The people in charge all talk to one another and make things work. All of the authorities funnel up to FIFA one way or another; the hierarchy seems to exist for this kind of coordination. And yes that’s my point — they literally did this with the 2022 World Cup already.

we should have some kind of competition where only the biggest best teams play each other so we don't have to waste time with everything else

Japanese national team is easily top five in revenue among national teams, and Japanese business is all over sponsorship of Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers. It’s them and Saudi essentially. Just because the FIFA window for northern hemisphere summer traditionally has the World Cup and Euros and there’s either offseason (for European leagues) or a stronger break for others (like MLS and the J-League) doesn’t mean the African Cup or Asian Cup are less deserving or prestigious among those national teams.

If you're open to non-PL then Celtic / Rangers is on now, Palace v Brentford later this afternoon should be a decent one as well

Been saying this op, it's also why we should get rid of women's football and generally speaking any sport where people are not "paying lots of money to watch"!

You can't use total revenue in nominal terms to determine which country loves football the most because of 'income effects' -- in wealthy countries, everything costs more. The advanced stat you want is revenue from football as a share of GDP: F_REVENUE / GDP
