While football is pretty set in its scheduling ways, soccer is a completely different animal for one big reason - in addition to a league structure, they also have a knockout competition that goes on at the same time. For example, in England they have the FA Cup. While desperately trying to go to sleep, an idea popped into my head: how would it go if the NFL had a similar competition? All 32 teams play each other eventually, it can't be that hard. I came up with the NFL Cup, whose rules I will explain:

1) The Opening Round is played Week 1 of the first season after a new winner is crowned (we will start in 2002)
2) Subsequent rounds will be matched up based on winners from the previous round, first come first served
3) A new round cannot begin until the previous round is completed
4) Playoff games can count in the NFL Cup, while preseason games do not

problem is that nfc and afc divisions are only guaranteed to play once every 4 years so you can catch some rough ones, like KC playing washington in 2001 and carolina and san diego playing in 2004 and so on.
