I've never managed to get into a multiplayer game at its most popular. Always came around later, hearing all the stories, "Man, you should've seen So and So and his clan back in the day! The game was really great then!"

I've never followed a single Youtuber, left Youtube open long enough to play a recommended video, browsed the Youtube front page or suggestions, or subscribed to a Youtube channel. As far as I'm concerned it's just a video hosting site where you can upload a vid to send to your friends.

e: I do watch the Dr Katz playlist on youtube occasionally but I don't have it saved or subscribed or whatever I just google "youtube.com dr katz"

Bf has a bunch of the sluggy printed books. I never read it though. I did watch a lot of homestar when it was relevant.

I never got into MMORPGs. In theory, sharing an open world with other players sounds awesome, but whenever I watch someone play, the game mechanics and player interactions look dull.

Pornography.

Call me "old fashioned" but I don't think other people's bodily functions are any of my business. If I ever decide to have any sexual fantasies, I can act them out with Barbie dolls and GI Joes.

I mean, I was around during P-P-P-Powerbook, but I remember opening the thread, seeing :words:, quickly getting bored, and ignoring it forever from that point forward. Quite frankly it's amazing to me how many people are so intent on referring to it as the barometer against which every subsequent SA-related meme or event is compared to. We've produced much better content, you guys.

However, I still get DMs about a single post I made in the original Hulk Hogan meat shoes thread that some people find so hilarious that it warrants reaching out to me on a regular basis to tell me how it lives in their head rent free for reasons I will never understand, so I can comfortably say I have a reliable claim on being somewhat flippantly present for at least one SA-related cultural landmark.

I slept on all of the Doobie's Dog House stuff, no regrets though

I never created a myspace, i went straight to facebook. Then I missed out on everything that came after that because i posted on somethingawful dot com instead.

I've been reading these stupid forums since I think around 1995, i vividly remember what the frontpage was on 9/11. I used a lot of Napster, then Kazaa, then bittorrent for many years, yet I still managed to miss out on the :filez: subforum heyday

I was active in the Let's Play subforum when Twitch.tv first became available. Showing your face in a let's play was already trendy, I though it was tacky as hell but apparently I was wrong - people wanted that visual connection. I was cruising at the tail end of grad school at the time, I probably could have started a successful streaming career of some sort if I'd put in the time. I think I'm better off having not pursued it tbh but I still kind of regret not connecting those dots

i know there's high effort stuff on youtube but i can't even watch high effort premium rear end tv for more than like an hour. i don't know how people deal with continuous online video feeds, it's like having somebody shouting in my ear, i can't do anything. i thought on-demand video was supposed to save us from that awful poo poo

OH NO!
I met my wife just after the dawn of the iPhone. We met on OK Cupid, which used to be a site where you could put in a fairly detailed profile and answered questions and tests that would help give a rough idea of compatibility with others who took the same tests.

This means that I skipped the entirety of app-based dating by the skin of my teeth, and I could not be more loving thrilled about that. While initial dating assessments have always been mostly based on physical attractiveness, it did seem that there was a time where it was at least hypothetically possible that a well-written profile could make up for height, or weight, or whatever physical things you may be insecure about yourself. I’m not an ogre but I have no delusions of being an Adonis, or a hair/height haver, and a world where swiping has basically turned real dating into MTV’s Next (do a google kids) is a world where I would absolutely have ended up alone and (more) broken.

Now my understanding from talking to younger people in my professional circle who do engage in that scene is that it’s a bombed out hellscape where standards are, at once, both impossibly high and also bafflingly low. I’ve heard from multiple young, conventionally attractive women that such high-level pick-up artist strategies like “be willing to take her on an actual date” and “have a car, housing, and some kind of goal for the future” basically put you in at least the the upper-midcard of eligibility.

This is before learning that one company pretty much owns every single dating app of any note, and that these apps/sites now are constructed in a way to limit the pool of people you can even see, all the better to entice you with premium subscriptions.(It’s all for naught because we’ll ultimately all be hooked up Matrix-1 style to Metaverse pods which automate sexual release at scheduled intervals, but yeah.)

I missed out on the original Kirk vs. Picard debate and the original Mike vs. Joel MST3k debate. When I joined the AOL Star Wars club in 96 the big debate was whether or not Wedge was a little bitch for bailing on Luke on his Deathstar run.

This is back when you used Fate to deal with your enemies and boot them out of chatrooms.
