I like Saga of Tanya the Evil but like a lot of isekai the wait for a second season has been so long. Lowkey the real problem with the glut of isekai, unless they're insanely popular the wait for a second season takes a long time, if ever.

thats just anime in general now, every competent studio and team is booked out 2 or 3 shows ahead, so if the producers didnt commit to season 2 from the start then it's a long wait from the back of the queue

"eva likes" were less samey in form than any light novel trend, there was just a like 10 year period after eva and before code geass where a lot of mecha and sci-fi anime were more inward-looking and allegorical

i think fafner and eureka seven are probably the most obvious examples of someone just making their own eva and those still arent as blatant as any given webnovel anime

actually that makes me curious - what kind of networks air seasonal anime, do specific networks typically get certain types of shows, etc. know very little about how japanese tv works, about all i know about anime is most of it airs late at night.

most shows buy tv slots on most or all of the major networks for maximum exposure. if a tv network is on the production committee then they'll get the earliest timeslot. full exclusivity doesnt really seem to be a thing.

for example, Metallic Rouge is produced by Fuji TV for their "+Ultra" anime block but if you look at the show website it's also airing on a bunch of other channels at later dates/times as well.

AT-X is an anime-specific premium channel, they can show nudity since its not broadcast tv so thats the only real case of 'certain types of shows', otherwise everything airs everywhere

its not a netflix produced show they're just subbing/dubbing it

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

hmm is no one subbing pon no michi?

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

theres english subs out there now from the SEA release. thank you singapore

show seems fine but not amazing. akagi gags are too low-hanging-fruit, some other stuff was funny

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

mygo director/writer are doing a PA Works original anime this year so thats probably why

trying to think of others now besides the obvious excel saga

Sakurazuka posted:

New season must be bad if we're already at the 'litigating what counts as an isekai' part of the thread.

theres almost always this little window between week 1 and week 2 where all the isekai shows have already aired but most of the interesting shows havent yet

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

it was fun, that imagine dragons rear end insert song is bad though, thats my only real complaint

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

i watched kurau phantom memory recently and that show is pretty dull sadly. bones not infallible at this type of thing. this one already seems more fun though

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

ok that makes it look a lot better than the PVs did

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

bang bravern also another late-nite show that no one seems to have licensed. a fun trend to keep an eye on, these are lower interest shows but so were mygo and bocchi the rock and odd taxi, not inconceivable that a really high caliber show gets left out to dry at this rate

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

nah i think he's a cult favorite either way

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

maybe they also got duped into being uninterested by the promos

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

i feel negative about it after 2 episodes. the script seems pretty bad. doesn't feel like it quite "gets" slice of life shows, as someone who's watched dozens of these this one feels really off.

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

meiji gekken was more competent than i expected for an abandoned crunchyroll original™. compares unfavorably to revenger though for something set in roughly the same time period and genre

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

my best guess is monogatari, aniplex produces that and theres unadapted stories that start with those letters.

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

loved the first episodes of bang bravern, sengoku youko, and bucchigiri. lots of fun stuff this season

Tales of Woe

tsukimichi seemed like a case of good main characters stuck in a bad show. especially the samurai lady

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

i liked the first two episodes. haven't read the manga but my understanding is that it has two main arcs and they're adapting both.

Watched the first episode of Weakest Tamer, and... huh. I guess this is the one isekai show of the season that the staff decided to give 200% in adapting. poo poo's got actual cinematography.

yeah shigeyasu yamauchi is directing that one for some reason. the casshern sins guy

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

it can join code geass as confirmed shoujo anime

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

yeah i only watched the first two episodes but it felt very lacking script-wise. most slice of life shows that make it thru the anime pipeline these days feel like theyre being made by genre specialists who know what they're doing whereas this just didnt

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

plus streaming is a big factor, keeping a show on tv via filler made more sense back when tv was the only thing to watch

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

space dandy, concrete revolutio, star driver, and darker than black are all very good. sword of the stranger too if movies count. sk8 and rahxephon and wolfs rain are cool too. i dont think they've hit or missed significantly more or less than anyone else?

im not caught up with metallic rouge but im fond of a lot of the second-tier 00s originals that people were rightly comparing it to at the start, the gonzo shows and such.

its 2024 why are they doing recap episodes?

they're placeholders when they can't get an episode done in time, not a planned part of the show

Tales of Woe

they dont number recaps anymore though, they're like "episode 6.5" and are bonus content on the blu ray not part of the show order. dunno what crunchyroll et al do with them

Tales of Woe
Dec 18, 2004

are they even? a lot of these series are questionably familiar with actual otome games and neither am i so i never know which parts they're bsing

it's a fairly popular LN in japan and often these adaptations get planned for 2 seasons from the start even if they announce them one at a time. the same happened with spy classroom iirc
