I sympathize a lot with chilchuk's tired-eyed 'i just work here' vibe and he's a wonderful straight man to the other party members' goofy nonsense

much like marcille, a very unique interpretation of a fantasy archetype. halflings are usually much less cranky

He's the responsible adult of the group. Senshi may be a similar relative age, but he's been down in a dungeon for a long time

An elf checking back in a century later to see if there's an elf language patch yet, messaging the grandchild of the original dev, who has to explain that the entire art medium they're referring to no longer exists.

Source code's lost, IP's public domain, e-shop closed, platform shut down, hardware is obsolete, form of energy it ran on banned by international treaty.

They point out that there was an elf working on a translation patch, but it was for a console long since discontinued. Company made it bought out thrice over. All documentation for code in that version in fragments and those fragments are in Goblin (for some reason).

If you ever looked at some food and wondered how the hell did humans discover you can eat that, "someone like Laios" is the most likely answer. :v:

Someone like Laios to ask if it was possible and someone like Senshi to make it in a way that tastes good.

I feel bad for Marcille. She just wants to be useful on the quest to safe her girlfriend and tries her best, but everyone is always rude and dismissive to her.
I usually skip OPs but this one is genuinely really good. There are so many people we haven't met yet. I wonder when the party will absorb them.

Also I'm just gonna say it: Boiled cabbage is gross and a misuse of ingredients.

Boiled/steamed cabbage alone is a misuse, but it's good to extend other dishes with and adds texture. Like Corned beef and cabbage works because it absorbs some of the flavors and as long as it's not overcooked, adds just enough crisp texture that it's not just beef (and carrots and potatoes)

Absolutely. The treasure bugs (and living armour) and the ghosts are both such great examples of Kui's world-building.

The bugs are subverted by portraying them up as cute little treasures, gems being akin to fruit you can jam, and then eating them is played straight. This is contrasted with the ghosts themselves being played straight but "eating" is subverted by making a food with them you just wouldn't have expected.

There's just so much creativity in how she ties in food to every one of these typical fantasty monsters, it's just really fun to see. Like it could have so easily been just "well you cut the monster and cook it and eat it" x 100, but there's always something neat and creative expressed.

The living armor, treasure bugs and an as of yet revealed monster are my three favorites from this series, with honorable mention to another one that's basically a reference to a number of things.

Loved Senshi's attitude towards the inedible stuff. It's just gold and jewels, throw them away if you like.

Earlier editions of Dungeons and Dragons (i.e. AD&D and earlier), which assumed the heroes would be traveling with hirelings and other specialists, often included trained dogs on equipment lists. I specifically remember an AD&D-era article in Dragon magazine about increasing the survivability of low-level magic-users. One of the pro-tips was using the character's starting gold to buy a pair of big, mean dogs. The downsides to this strategy have been well-explored by this thread: bringing dogs into a dungeon tends to result in a lot of dead dogs, which isn't really the kind of story that a lot of people want to tell.

One of the alternatives to this was to use the cheaper and more expendable chicken to just have them walk into traps.

one extremely cool detail i forgot about is the idea that dragons use their tongue to ignite their fire breath like we would with a hand lighter

the worldbuilding, as always, is dope

That's in the How to Train Your Dragon movies too fwiw. Basically dragons have a sac where they store gasses to generate fire and then ignite them when they want to blast flames.

Ill be honest, i dont know what a cour is and i thought they meant to say course because they were making a food joke

Here's some anime viewing vocab 101 for the youngins who aren't aware of these terms

Series: Refers to the American sense of the entire story. Most anime are only one season so they're often synonymous.

Season: Synonymous with the UK use of "Series." A complete production unit that is at least one Cour/calendar season and may be more. Shows like One Piece, Dragon Ball Super and Detective Conan do not have these and are largely separated by arcs or calendar year. They are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Cour: Japanese broadcasting term based on the French word. Calendar season production unit. Most anime are 1 cour. Some, like this one, are 2 cour. Sentai and Kamen Rider are 4 cour technically. 3 is very rare, but happens. 1 cour is 12-13 episodes. The variation is largely based on individual series and preference of the creators.

Split cour: Uncommon. Refers to series whose cours are not aired continuously. Reasons for this vary.
