This works because there are two posters itt: the ones who always love Star Wars and the ones who always hate Star Wars.

The poster who always loves Star Wars will tell you to watch the last Jedi because it’s the deepest and most interesting movie that subverts expectations

The poster who always hates Star Wars will tell you to watch the last Jedi because it’s absolutely incomprehensible and will therefore kill any desire you have to watch another and killed the franchise, making it the best

As one of the latter I can confirm this is true. It only took half of it to make me not ever want to see another Stars War.

Keep in mind the core crew are film students. They (at least used to) get a huge kick out of going to a 24-hour film competition and laughing at how crappy everyone's submissions are. That's what Partners feels like. Honestly the only reason I even made it through Partners was realizing that I think the main villain is basing his portrayal off of Ledger's Joker. I looked it up once and the timelines mesh. Like they would have had to re-record a lot of his stuff late in production which meshes with the Ambulance Ex Machina. If you're not the sort of person to dig into movies like that, skip these kinds of recommends.

I might be able to have fun with Difficult People. But I'm old enough to have watched these sorts of training videos unironically for work. So this has massive nostalgia for me.

Now hold on while I write my dissertation about why Wish Upon is not a good movie night and a sure sign of bad ppinions in moopies.

First off, I've seen so much Disney astroturfing on forums lately. Like I guarantee if you scrub through SA you'll find some accounts posting a suspicious amount of "I sure do enjoy my Disney+ account(tm) fellow young people(r)!". This whole discussion is bought and paid for because Disney is terrified of losing relevancy. Beginning and end of story. But pretending for half a second that's not the case.

The current horror industry is trash. There's an unbelievable amount of international money looking to invest in anything that has half a claim to franchise potential and quickly turn out content that might be resold to some garbage streaming service or whatever. Anything that lowers any bar, like AI scripts, is going to result in waves of trash out of this industry.

Are there any "shlock action movie" guys anymore? Statham is the only one I can think of off the top of my head and he's what, in his 50s now? It's getting tough to find a turn your brain off non-horror movie to watch that is a level above syfy original. We were so spoiled from the 80s-00s, Seagal or Van Damme or Lundgren or whoever were making GBS threads out a marginally watchable movie once every few months. I assume this is another thing bad superhero movies took from our culture.

After it was featured on BotW, I tracked down a copy of Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth and it is even more fantastic than the episode made it look. It literally feels like watching Norm MacDonald describe a parody of 80s action movies in a completely deadpan way where you're never actually sure if you're supposed to be laughing or not.

Lol I rented it from Blockbuster when I was a kid and thought it was amazing, watching it as an adult it continues to be amazing.

ProperCauldron posted:

I feel like John Cena and Dave Bautista were gearing up for this type of career, but turns out both of them can do drama and comedy roles too. Plus they seem like more down to earth, empathic people that aren't demanding to make movies about beefcakeishly blowing the evildoers' heads off. Actually, that's probably why they're overall better actors than the 80s staples in the first place.

Yeah I figured when he did The Marine that Cena would go that way but he became a rapper instead. Stone Cold has a handful of generic action movies around on Tubi.

While there were several alleged issues during the shoot itself, problems reportedly arose between Lewis and producer Nat Wachsberger once filming stopped, the main catalyst for the film being shelved.

Lewis was reportedly unhappy with the film’s financing and announced that Wachsberger did not fulfill his obligations. Hearing this, Wachsberger threatened to sue Lewis for breach of contract, resulting in a fallout between the two that caused Lewis to leave with a rough cut of the film, according to a 2018 feature in The New York Times.

Lol I always thought he wouldn't allow it to be shown because the subject matter was too depressing, just being a slap fight over financing makes it much less interesting.
