Anyone have a refrigerator brand they like? I've had a Samsung one for 7 years and I'm done with it. Every 6 months or so I have to pull the thing apart and attempt to defrost the drain line. This time it was even worse as I had ice buildup all along the evaporator. I'm worried that I have a refrigerant leak since ice buildup is a common problem with low refrigerant. I'm not going to get this thing fixed any more, I'm just done with it.

I have a lot of LG appliances in the house now and I'm leaning getting one of those, but any recommendations are welcome.

We have a GE we bought a year ago and it’s been good so far, just a standard double door with ice maker and water. The water filter lasts us a decent bit too, longer than the Frigidaire we had before that it replaced. One thing I will say is that we like to have chilled water in sufficient quantity (Arizona and all), but a lot of refrigerators now have no internal storage capacity for water and it’s just filter-and-discharge. The Frigidaire we had, actually had a internal (tube) reservoir, and it was really nice to have for filling multiple glasses or a couple of bottles before it started to get warm, especially in the summer. When I was searching for new refrigerators, most don’t have any type of reservoir anymore, but the GE we purchased did. (Note: the reservoir is often a bunch of coiled PE tubing, or an actual tank somewhere inside. I don’t know if either really matters).

The Frigidaire was ok too - no frills really, had water/ice, was also a double door. I almost bought another one but preferred the GE for the internal chilled volume listed above, and apparently they changed over to R600A without changing the compressor/coolant system design, so there’s some question as to effectiveness and longevity.

Before the Frigidaire (which came with the houses we purchased in 2019), we had a LG side-by-side for about 4 years, with the Linear Compressor. The LC died about 2-1/2 years in, and we got it replaced under their warranty, but then the warranty was only for 90 days. It was working ok up until we moved, but ended up donating it. The actual LG factory tech that came to replace the compressor, told us that there were inherent design flaws that resulted in debris going into the cooling loop, so it’d likely go out again in the future. LG was subject to a class action lawsuit as a result of the initial few years of the LC design.

That having been said, my understanding is that LG significantly revised the design, and it seems ok/better now? There’s some nifty features that LGs have, so I’d probably consider them again, as I did some before the GE. I will say that it was probably the quietest of the refrigerators we’ve had, but I didn’t like the ice in the door. We also have an LG washer and dryer and they’ve been great.

I'm not going to judge someone for voting for Biden or whoever for their own personal reasons, that's fine, that's their right.

But if you're gonna call out my post, you should also be calling out Ether Frenzy for basically saying, "In an election, you have two choices, usually the lesser of two evils", and that's in large part because you agree with him, per the posts you've made in between his and the most recent. And that's fine!

but I also don't think it's fair to then criticize those of us who who won't be voting for him, because of his decisions he's made, when then trying to defend/justify why others do vote for him.

Joseph Biden has actively supported the genocide of Palestinian children, by his unwavering support for the Israeli state government, including the funds and weapons that he has supported being sent to them. As a result, I don't plan to vote for him in this upcoming election. Maybe that'll change depending on his actions, but I doubt it based on his administration's precedents.

Is Trump worse? Absolutely. But the country is heading toward a constitutional crisis, and whether it begins next year, or in 4 more years, or whenever, it's going to occur, and I don't think that waiting for the old Democrats to age-out is really the long-game you think it is, because we can see how the "up-and-coming" Democrats like Sinema and Fetterman and others have become.

So if someone says they're voting for Biden for :reasons:, that's cool, that's their choice. But don't tell me that I have two choices in the election, because I have a third: not voting for any particular candidate that I can't support moral or ethically in any form.

Edit:

See, like this, it's always whataboutism and such.

Genuinely, I don't think you really are seeing that you accused another poster of being a genocide supporter, in a mocking way, and are trying to draw some equivalence to the offense you take at being told that we have a two-party-only, lesser-of-two-evils system that you can't change or fix. But this statement right here makes me think you and I have nothing more to discuss. I didn't realize you're an accelerationist, and if you really are a "let's get trump in there because we're gonna collapse anyway, might as well be now" then there is such an immense, yawning chasm between your and my world views that it's totally irreconcilable.

I am, however, still going to call out hostile crap ITT when I see it, from you or anyone else. Seriously, please, reconsider accusing your fellow TFF posters of being genocide supporters. It really sucks.

I started typing up a long response, but I don't want to poo poo up this thread with it, so I'll say this: I think you're a hypocrite, because you took what I said, twisted it with your own prejudicial viewpoints and assumptions to justify your own viewpoints, are claiming things that in no way I said, but then you turn around and call out me as being hateful/etc. while then basically making personal attacks (accelerationist, etc) on me when you know nothing about me, and only know that my personal opinion with respect to Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, and my own personal moral/ethical viewpoints, are different from yours.

So I'll say this: if you want to actually have a serious discussion with me, via PM, I will welcome it, but otherwise, please do not jump to conclusions simply because I mocked (yes, I will admit to that) a poster that you personally agree with and rushed to defend but that I do not agree with.

I will say though that there's some inherent irony also that you reference hateful crap and reference me and calling someone a genocide supporter (false), while then posting a hateful attack about being an accelerationist. What's good for the goose is apparently not good for the gander.

And I personally think that being told "You must be a Trump supporting-accelerationist if you don't vote for Biden" is just as bad of an attack as anything you're accusing me of, but you do you.

Edit: gently caress that ended up being longer than I meant, but whatever, I still welcome the PM to actually talk in private.
