In any event, it seems like Iowa’s operating very near the program ceiling at that 8-10 wins per year clip. The fact that they’re getting there in an interesting way rather than just being another good, samey spread/RPO offense with a mediocre defense- that’s compelling, and the sport is more interesting for it: I’d kill for the Aggies to be that kind of team.

what else would you kill for General Dog

I didn’t think it looked near as bad as it did last spring.

Right side is still trash. They need a tackle in the portal bad. I think Fryar would be fine at guard. He’s just too stiff for tackle. If they can find a good RT and move Fryar in, I think it fixes most of the issues.

But I thought the whole point of the dog graves having their own scoreboard was that they couldn’t see into the stadium anymore?

I hate that I could hear this sentence, completely divorced of surrounding context, while sitting in a bar or taking public transit or whatever and know exactly what it means.

Dom is 100% WR1 and going to be a problem for a lot of teams to deal with.

Jeremiah Smith is an anomaly. And could very well be the best OSU WR to ever play for the program. Ever.

Your statement does not mean that Dom won’t be a problem for the teams we play. More than one wide receiver can be good.

My favorite Drew Allar highlight last year was during the Ohio State game where the camera got a shot of him looking to the sideline to get the playcall and looking absolutely horrified.

Like a baby deer seeing a wolf and thinking to itself"Welp, I hope reincarnation is real."

Spring games are just nice little public exercise sessions where you just hope no one gets hurt, which makes the fact that Bert managed to get one of his RBs neck broken on the final play of one even more astounding.

Penn State should only recruit quarterbacks who have three options in their decision matrix: can a big beautiful giraffe of a TE catch it? If no, can I just take off like a 2005 to 2010 Ben Roethlisberger who runs with all the grace of Babe Ruth? If no, can I launch it into the stratosphere and hope there's someone anywhere in the ZIP code when it returns to Earth?

Trace McSorley won the Big Ten like that!

For as good as Barkley was, 2016 was more reliant on the pass. Nearly a quarter of Barkley's touchdowns came in a single game (the loss to Pitt). The Minnesota game and Rose Bowl were the two games that season that he took over. The "Barkley is a future #1 pick" Barkley that carried things was in 2017.

But even then, it never really became a one sided offense consisting of handing it off to Barkley. McSorley out rushed him in one game!

Penn State always having one terrifying receiver is also a hallmark of the Franklin years that seems to have been lacking in the last couple.

KLS was pretty much WR1 because there wasn't anyone else. He only had two receptions in the last four games. He'd already floundered and I don't think it was necessarily because of the quarterback. Four seasons and he never quite broke out.

Lambert-Smith just gave up in the middle of his routes and basically quit trying the latter half of the season.

Obviously Allar needs an entire summer camp, but honestly he has regressed significantly since the start of last season, when he had a great coming out against WVU. I think his confidence is completely destroyed, and he doesn't really even fit into Kotelnicki's scheme anyway. Penn State needs a dual threat QB.
