I've recommended this show to 4 different people, who all ended up finishing the series within a few days. I was surprised how well it connected with non sci-fi fans. I think it does a good job of making you feel smart, without being too confusing.

Maybe this is an old man yelling at cloud opinion, but drat I wish show like this could put out a season once a year. The first 4 seasons of Sopranos were released in 4 years. Deep Space 9 was annual. The Wire got 3 seasons finished in 3 years. If it is good enough for them, it should be good enough for modern shows too.
