Yeah, in the first game they're literally running around deleting planets if you can't keep a handle on things. Even a busted one is going to have some Scifi Umph behind it.

Yeah, I never really developed a foolproof counter strategy for the Tyranids. I think I settled on increasing my use of escort ships for scouting and Nova Cannons to try to nuke their commanders from as far away as possible. If those giant fleets aren't put down quick they do a lot of damage though, so it's always a rush when you manage to break their "morale" early in a fight like that.

That was basically my go-to, yeah. I think Space Marines had some tricks to make them useful if they're all you happen to have to respond with, but I generally wanted at least one Ad Mech fleet in any Nid engagement. It's been a while since I played though.
