If the air burst rocket was a one and done with a short cooldown like an eat I could see it getting some use on really open maps full of bugs.

Airburst seems real good on bot eradicate missions where you have an elevated position so I'm excited to try the 'fixed' version that gets added, but yeah not a big fan of it as-is

I'm convinced Petra is the worst planet to have the airburst on.

Trees and rocks. Constant fog, low visibility. Add on comically high aoe proximity detonation launcher. It's a recipe for TK disaster. It has to be on purpose.

But what if I had this on a clear map. Desert dunes or moors or ice planet. With bugs. Far away. In dense concentrations. Oh yeah.

Besides it might have a pretty significant rework when it's finalized. Right now it feels less like an airburst and more of a cluster rocket.

I'm somewhat convinced that the medium sized destroyable rocks are setting off the prox warhead on the airburst launcher. you can shoot past trees but GFY if you're anywhere near a rock

It really needs a manual detonation mode.

Clicking again when you want it to go boom would be rad, and make it pretty solid.

Oh Dear.
:ohdear:
I'm holding off final judgement of the airburst launcher until it "officially" drops and has its changes applied to it, but I hope those changes include making it more consistent to use. Between 1) it fusing on terrain seemingly at random, 2) the initial rocket explosion doing what appears to be no damage at all, and 3) the submunitions spreading out in a circular pattern meaning it does damage in a weird donut shape, it's hard to even determine how much damage it can do. I've had Devastators run the gambit of dying in a single shot to surviving 5 (I would have shot more but I ran out of ammo). It definitely seems to do a decent amount when it works; I managed a 16x kill with a single shot on the first time I took it out, but unless you can manage something like that with consistency it's not going to be worth using outside of meme-ing.
https://i.imgur.com/W50TZzp.mp4

Also this is totally an aside but it seems more like a cluster-munition launcher than an airburst launcher; when I hear airburst launcher I think something more along the lines of a super-eruptor: a giant HE-FRAG rocket that spews out a billion pieces of shrapnel everywhere.

Wish there was a way to resupply the exosuit. I love my mech but it dies pretty quick to bots especially and runs out of ammo pretty fast. Am I doing it wrong?

FunkyFjord

I watched someone keep a mech alive for a good while against bots earlier and I think the secret is actually run out of ammo faster. Just be really really aggressive with it. Obviously don't try to walk infront of every rocket, tank blast, and cannon turret, but I watched a pub take a cannon turret and tons of small arms fire and live to run out of ammo. They were real liberal with their rockets and emptied the gatling at anything and evetything as long as there was a target in sight, whether charging ahead, retreating, or seeking cover. They were still avoiding patrols with the rest of us when we weren't already in a fight but otherwise just explode supress and perforate everything repentlessly.

This worked extremely well on a blitz mission that was just dummy full of devastators around every corner.

Your mistake was not having everyone aim for the factory strider, you'd have done a bunch of damage and been basically invincible on top of it assuming you hit and destroy the top cannon

Dropping in into a hellscape is the kind of shake up that makes this game fun.

I’m a fan but ngl I’ve been playing less and less. I need something new to bring me back.

Although I did find a new levelish on easy mode. It’s destroy the transmission but there’s 8 towers instead of one. Idk. I just played it solo to test out the rocket

Honestly, that scans. Helldivers makes its mark with gameplay; a lot of people have commented that its Number Go Up game is pretty weak. So it'll get olde after enough hours, and that's okay.

Frankly the number go up game being pretty weak is one of my favourite things about it. After the first few levels and unlocking a variety of weapons I felt pretty okay at playing it for the fun of it.

Since nerfing the rockets (or buffing titan durability?) I'd agree to some extent. Takes a lotta rockets to knock those heads off and that means the primary use of the suits to counter a big spike in heavies isn't nearly as effective. Versus bugs it's still not bad though. Just not optimal.

For bots you're just going to get the arms shot off by some random rocket from halfway across the map.

On a different topic the airburst rocket launcher has been a mixed experience for me. For its primary role in getting flying enemies to fuckoff it's decent vs. shriekers but terribly inconsistent against bot gunships - I've hit a gunship directly 3 times in a row and had it (and nearby gunships) keep on trucking completely unaffected through the explosions. The quasar remains the best (and really the only really effective?) anti-gunship weapon. Against ground targets it has a tendency to trigger near player turrets or by hitting edges of trees/shrubberies, which can wipe a team. The bomblets can also bounce surprisingly far sometimes, leading to random deaths at what would normally be a very safe range. But man when you land the shot on an enemy patrol you can do some real damage.

The airburst launcher isn't an anti-air weapon. It's a cluster bomb.

The Autocannon (and probably laser but I haven't tried, just watching when allies bring it) are both a ton better against gunships than the Quasar.

The Laser Cannon literally just swats them out of the air in ~2ish seconds of direct fire on a weakpoint, it's great.

Also this has been my experience with the Airburst. It needs work.

Sometimes you get a beautiful shot with it and it just completely deletes a large patrol (18+ kills) which is really good but about 8 times out of 10 it explodes too early and kills you and your team, or does nothing.

The autocannon says hello. It's the far superior option. Double tapping the engine to the right or left of the nose is a kill. You need to be able to kill both gunships when the launch asap, the quasar cannot do that as fast as the autocannon.

EATs take them down in a single shot without hitting a weak point. Best stratagem.

Yeah I feel like the quasar is actually incredibly bad vs gunships lol. Killing one every 15 seconds (assuming you don't miss) or whatever ain't gonna cut it. AC and laser cannon both delete them, and the spear is guaranteed not to miss if you insist on using a slow-reload weapon

Yet another win for the autocannon as the best bot support weapon by far

Saraiguma

bc of the (justified tbh) tiny amount of casualties from shooting down drop ships and the charger density I'd argue quasar is the worst anti armor weapon in the game and it's only bolstered in use by people who don't want to track armor and only want those 1/500 mlg pro killcams

With the autocannon you can pop off four shots as quickly as you can aim, though. No need to call in the EAT or pick it up or wait for its animation, and seconds matter once the gunships are in the air. Plus you have six more shots without reloading should you miss.

EAT is great on bug planets (one callin to kill three chargers!) but I don't bother with it on bot planets.

Ahhhh. The first time I ran into gunships and had an autocannon was at night and all I could see was the red light. It took forever to down one shooting the light. I guess I should have been aiming to the right (or left) of the light?

Because you always know when you're about to face gunships currently, I don't find the call in time is really an issue. Just call it in before they spawn. But I often run autocannon and EATs, so it's a bit moot.

Even if you shoot the light (nose/body) it takes 4 hits I think, so you can down two in a single clip and reload.

Quasar/EAT are not good against gunships, if you’re the Anti Armor guy on your team and if someone has Laser Cannon / Autocannon - you are now the Hellbomb guy and they need to cover you.

Honestly the red zone drop doesn't bother me as much as people like that who quit at the first sign of trouble, especially when they join a 8+. Sometimes poo poo goes sideways through a snowball of errors and now you're on the other side of the map with no equipment. Salvaging missions like that is fun.
