I wonder if they're dynamically adjusting the Galactic War progress as they go, because it seems like Heeth keeps yoyoing between 65% and 55% and if that keeps up we're not gonna finish OPERATION VALIANT ENCLOSURE in 6 days.

Feels like Challenging is the limit of a what an uncoordinated group can manage to full clear the map and Hard is the limit for just doing objectives and bailing. My Super Destroyer for a pubbie who understands that just because we can see the bugs does not mean we have to engage them.

Also is there a lore reason as to why destroyers leave low orbit after the timer runs out for bug missions? It kinda makes sense that bots have some sort of super antiship weapon but backing off from bugs just seem kinda silly.

the fuel burn needed to maintain low orbit is really expensive and Super Earth isn't made of money

Bugs are fine, they just don't do much on the lower difficulties. Since those are the only ones people can reliably clear with a random group, bugs getting tiring very quickly.

Even on the lower difficulties, bots very much make you feel like you are in The poo poo and have way more going on.

Too many people getting into fights with enemy patrols, and then just staying to fight the enemies that spawn instead of running away. Slowing down a big wave of enemies chasing you is when something like a minefield stratagem would be useful, but so many times I've seen people go into a heavy nest, clear it, and then just run around the put in circles fighting the new enemies that are appearing out of thin air instead of moving away to something else.

I soloed half of a Challenging mission because the pubbies just kept fighting random poo poo while I ran around actually doing the objectives. It was actually kind of handy because they kept getting bug breaches while I could just run around dropping Liberty on POIs and nests.

If we're to assume that every liberated planet is a Super Earth colony, they have a population numbering in the tens, if not hundreds of billions, which would make throwing bodies at multiple eternal hellwars not just possible, but economical.

This game conveys the feeling of being in an invasion more than any other game I've played. The touches like seeing other stratagems and drop pods going down in the skybox, the little bits of context building from the briefings and voicelines from the ship NPCs, its just enough to really sell the idea of this giant galactic war. And yeah, it's great that despite all the bombast about Helldivers being the best of the best, you're still wading through mud and garbage and are probably going to die like a dog for no reason for the glory of Liberty and Managed Democracy.

It's also extremely loving lol that special forces teams are being deployed on an incredibly dangerous missions to survey valuable ore veins.

DISPATCH FROM SUPER EARTH HIGH COMMAND

Grave news Helldivers, the defense of both Draupnir and Mantes was spread too thin, and thus failed at holding off the Automaton offensive. Now the socialist robot menace has established significant footholds on both planets.

However, a small but forceful Helldiver task force, in a race against the clock of Mantes falling, managed to liberate Ubanea before supply lines were cut. This Heroic liberation was unexpected, and Super Earth High Command is in the process of drawing up altered battleplans to support this nailbiting victory.

Ubanea now finds itself in Automaton dominated space, surrounded on all fronts by the Automaton aggressors. Super Earth calls upon all available Helldivers to assist in the defense.

HOLD THE LINE HELLDIVERS! HOLD THE LINE!

Uh excuse me, Super Earth executed a successful retrograde advance from Draupnir and Mantes that resulting in a resounding strategic shift. Those planets aren't important anyway.

The Major Orders are community-wide missions. They are not missions specifically for you (those are the Minor Orders). The counter will only tick up if the community as a whole succeeds in a defense campaign.

The sample grind is probably my biggest peeve with the actual design of the game. You need so many for a single upgrade, you're generally only going to get a handful per mission unless you're scouring every POI (which is boring), and it can be real difficult to actually get them all the way to extraction. But the actual upgrades aren't that big of a deal and it gives me something to keep working towards long-term so whatever I guess.

Yeah, this is a rambo faux pas. If you run off solo, die, and get called back near the group, them's the breaks. Be better at video games next time.

I generally give myself one shot at soloing and if I die, I stick with the team the rest of the game. Unless they're turning every patrol into the Battle of Verdun, of course.

The biggest advantage the railgun has over other options is not needing a backpack. I love the autocannon, but having to take a backpack with it does limit my options. Whereas with the railgun I can take a support weapon that is just as effective while also taking a Guard Dog or shield or supply pack. That's a pretty significant boost regardless of what faction or difficulty you're one.

I suspect Arrowhead's intention was that the whole team reload thing would make the RR or autocannon more effective than the railgun as long as you have a buddy loading for you, but in actual practice that doesn't ever happen.

Arrowhead is encountering a sad truth of success: you can't interact with a massive playerbase the same way you interact with a niche audience. The lesson they should take away from this snafu is that they have to tone down the amount of community interaction they have in general.

Anyway, mechs are fun but we're about to lose Angel's Venture because a lot of stuff is bugged and Operations aren't completing properly.

Loving the game so far. Just had a sour experience, I've been joining those squads you see on the galactic map just so I can play with others instead of by myself. Didn't realise people can troll you by constantly killing you with their droppods before kicking you from their game. I wasted 10 mins and got nothing to show for it. I'm now a tad bit more apprehensive about joining public games as there doesn't seem to be any protection against this sort of behaviour?

Why host a game publicly if you're just gonna boot people from it.

There's no protection against dickheads, but there's also no penalty for just leaving a game. If it sucks, hit da bricks!
