Toys for Bob just bought themselves out from Microsoft. They will be joining Saber Interactive as being an independent studio again. Are we entering the reverse-consolidation era??

Funnily enough it's just "yakiniku" in original Japanese, but I guess they figured people wouldn't recognize it or something.

There's clearly a ton of passion and energy and desire to make something good by those that make games, but being an investors gambling chip makes it a million times more difficult to actually make something good, let alone make what the people actually wanted to make in the first place. I can only imagine the disgusting feeling of being laid off when your company just blew megamillion on advertising some crap your team weren't even allowed to make half as good as you know yall could. Profit motive has no taste and abhors an excess of quality.

the problem is that being an independent studio costs money and there's less and less of it to go around. several closures last year were because the studios just didn't have the stamina to constantly pitch and fundraise on top of making games best of luck to toys for bob but the people thinking this bloodbath will result in some kind of indie renaissance are going to be disappointed

Aren't we already in an indie renaissance? I'm sure that even during the Renaissance most people were more into whatever their sports and NCIS were than rock copies of copies of old people and paintings on church ceilings.

There's very little investment happening in games right now. This is compared to 2020/2021 when companies like Apple were greenlighting elevator pitches for 8 figure budgets.

No, Pokemon is not on Steam. Someone else is using a different game and renaming it exactly like a Pokemon listing as a scam
