It resembling the English word Tide is just one of those things. (It probably actually should be Tida/Tiida but a trailer guy mispronounced the name and so they stuck with it according to Tidus' voice actor. What's not short is Infinite Wealth. Like even if you just focus on the storyline, you're looking at 60+ hours. That's not the longest, that would belong to like Persona 5 or Witcher 3, but its still pretty nuts. A lot of it too is very long cutscenes, but the cutscenes in Infinite Wealth are great.

I guess there are some similarities, but it didn't exactly feel like that is what Sega was looking to parody. But to actually answer your question, everyone seems to consider it the best part of the game and finds it really addictive. I got there myself, but want to return to it later, like post-game and then really focus on it. But yeah, the island, and pokemon parody, are completely insane. Just the level of detail and how much content is there between these two modes is wild. There was no reason to go this hard, but the devs did and I really appreciate that. These are not like minor side things, they could be full on games themselves.

The meteor he survived is of course the Garlean Empire's "Project Meteor" which was the main driving force of the FFXIV 1.0 storyline afaik? Their plan was to drop the ancient cyber-moon Dalamud to the earth as a WMD and at the very end of the game they actually succeeded but in the process everything got all hosed up and it turned out it was an ancient prison for Bahamut who got out and destroyed the world and that's why the previous MMO is shut down now.
