Does the game look a bit washed out to anyone else? I can't tell if it's just because Nibelheim is inherently grey or if it's an actual issue.

I mean it still chugs in performance mode, it just does so by tanking the resolution. If you play around at the very beginning when you're walking around in the town you can get some pretty hideous results in certain spots

Yeah the demo sets a really bad first impression - in the village you either get a super low resolution or a super low framerare.

Play has no limits - well one limit but you get to choose what it is :v:

It's fine after that though so maybe Nibelheim pre-fire is just very poorly optimised.

When you're following Tifa around it was weird to me that depending on the direction you tried to walk the game would let you keep slowly walking and eventually it would give up and it would totally break Tifa's pathing and her 'leading' you for a little bit.

I'm the sort of person who always needs to walk the way you're not supposed to just to see what happens - and every time I did it the demo punished me with a full 10+ seconds of Cloud very slowly walking forward, turning around and slowly walking back. That poo poo's gonna add 5 hours to my playtime.

They beat up a bunch of monsters and houses and pick up sick loot/xp which is how most JRPG characters get more powerful.

Presumably they'll also be going from flinging firagas to barely scraping a fire together. Almost all of it can be explained by Yuffie robbing them though.

It is, but I'd argue we've reached a point where it's fallen out of the public consciousness enough that there are people interested in FF7 Rebirth who don't know yet. I don't love that SE is using Aerith's death this much for marketing, either, for that same reason.

Yeah it's an odd situation. Normally I'd say it's not a big deal and it's absolutely public knowledge. But millions of people were just introduced to the story via Remake and it's not inconceivable that a lot of them (particularly those not yet born in 1997) have tried to avoid spoilers.

Nope. Remake depended heavily on lots of tricks to hide its loading issues, Rebirth (and Yuffie DLC) ditched most of those.

And yet they still managed to work some crack squeezing and lift riding into the demo.

So just as an FYI, the game has a Soft and Hard point of no return.

The 'soft' point is before a major (non-spoiler) event The Date at Gold Saucer and while you can continue to do things after that there's a reason to do it beforehand. (You will need to go past this for one of the sidequest chains though.) So if you're at all concerned about a point where you should knock out side content you haven't done, that's the point to do it.

Does the game warn you at all before you do that?

Dumb question - do the summons I got for beating the demo, Remake and Integrade appear later on naturally? Or are they exclusive to people with save data?

I don't like using that sort of bonus if it means getting stuff before the game intended. But if I'm never gonna get Leviathan any other way I'll happily use him.

I kind of assume 16's budget and dev time was comparable to this - they just focused those resources on the kaiju fights and production values instead of all the other stuff. It certainly looks and runs a lot better than Rebirth does.

Actually 16 would've been in development a lot longer, assuming Rebirth didn't start much before Remake was out.

Square usually does the premium physical thing first then releases the whole thing digitally soon after. It's always a year or two before they hit streaming platforms.
