This is from rugby but gives a good explanation of what is and isn't a hip drop. There are still plenty of ways to tackle. Hip drops are a type of tackle that primarily involves grabbing on the shoulders or waist and falling on the runners' legs.

Hip drops are relatively recent in their overall prevalence because people are coaching defenders to do it more because it is a way to stop a runner with a good chance of getting them out of the game. Greggg wasn't the only shithead in football - he was just the one running too blatant a bounty program.

Like half the tackles in that NFL example video previous page, the defender made no contact with the other players legs

E: like from the example video it looked like anything where the defender grabs on and uses their body weight to bring the player down is now illegal

The ball doesn’t have to be advanced tip first.

If you want to make the ball some sort of prism, you could put a microchip in every vertex.

It is mathematically trivial to calculate where the furthest-forward point of the ball is if the microchip has a simple orientation sensor, given that the microchip itself knows where it is installed in the ball.

How do you know when the player is down?

Presumably something linked to when the ref blows the whistle, but yeah that's the more complicated part

I think there are *much* bigger fish to fry when it comes to officiating than spotting the ball, fwiw

Tampering is so loving dumb. Who gives a poo poo you talked to a guy earlier than an arbitrary date? You could wine and dine a dude for a month under the table, but that means nothing when another better team just outright outbids you.

There are extremely obvious reasons you shouldn't be allowed to negotiate with another team's player while they're under contract

Right, the Chiefs have taken Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Mecole Hardman at skill positions in the first two rounds of the last 5 drafts, why are we acting like they're particularly good at this?

I was thinking about the Jon Baldwin for AJ Jenkins trade (lol), but looking it up Baldwin was before Reid's time

For context, he's facing off against an up and coming 17 year old there.

Even without this context this video is ridiculously impressive on the sumo wrestler's part. There are not many humans who could just stand up Parsons like that.

The shocking thing is any pro sports player spending any amount of their off-season in either one
