Honestly, I don't understand half these newfangled stats -- xCHUB, SACK%+? In my day there was only one number we cared about: Ho/LE.

Acuña has "irritation around his meniscus", will fly to California for treatment (with the doctor who did his surgery before) but isn't expected to miss time yet.

Acuña still sitting but I think he was working out if not taking BP today.

That anime sauce they got for for the current McDonalds promo is honestly pretty good.

Bowman today:

quote:

Closer Raisel Iglesias, A.J. Minter, Joe Jiménez, Pierce Johnson and Aaron Bummer are virtual locks to fill five of the eight bullpen spots. Each of these relievers will be on the Opening Day roster barring injury.
[...]
The top candidates for the final three bullpen spots are Tyler Matzek, Dylan Lee, Jackson Stephens and possibly Reynoldo López. Matzek and Lee really just have to prove they are healthy and ready to be consistently effective once the season starts.
It seems like they're serious about trying Lopez as a starter? Not a bad bullpen at all is that's how it shakes out.

Would take a drastic offensive drought among most of the other players, since OPS+ is expressed relative to league average or something like that; if everyone else is producing like an .050 hitter, a .100 hitter would presumably well above average and thus have an OPS+ higher than 100.

Looks like he's not the fifth starter but he's probably the sixth until at least AJSS passes him so I bet we'll be seeing plenty of him. Especially with Sale and Lopez obviously limited, not to mention injuries etc.

Bowman had been hitting the note for so long that the Braves were likely to pick up a bench piece, probably an outfielder, that the only thing less surprising will be when they reacquire Jesse Chavez at some point midseason.
Might be more than a bench piece:

Orlando Arcia took 96 on the wrist today, not the hardest guy to replace but it's not great behind him at the moment. X-rays negative so hopefully not a big problem.

I'm finally finishing Lord of the Realm like five years after starting it and just got to the Dave Winfield-George Steinbrenner stuff with that weird lil' gambler in the middle, very relevant.

Step 1: assemble a roster of power hitters who all go the same direction
Step 2: "lose" some endangered salamanders in the outfield

The Ippei thing is even weirder now that it looks like he made up his media guide biography. He claimed he worked with Okajima and the Red Sox, but the years don’t match up, Okajima already had an interpreter, and Boston says they never heard of him.
Well now I'm sympathetic cause I've never actually done that but I've always wanted to
