I just somehow managed to extract the AFIM S1960 with the Pug scout, what a wild ride that was. So down on power, the gas ran out in the truck I was towing which really sucked. I probably spent twenty to thirty minutes on the last incline because there was a goddamn horribly placed downed tree that it kept getting caught on.

Victory feels sweet though. I don't love the Pug, especially with the stock motor it seems really weak, but I havent unlocked the roof rack for the Khan Marshall. I really like that truck but not having extra gas and parts limits you so much.

I feel like this is one of those games that gets better as you play it. More options of stuff so you can do what you feel like, more information about the map, more trucks to work with.

I don’t have fuel problems with the Marshall. I use the high range gearbox. The roof rack means you can’t use the metal detector yeah? I still find too many upgrades.

Actually a complaint I have is on the need to use different trucks. Most expeditions are best done in a scout and so I’ll use the Marshall because it’s my smallest, nimblest scout. If I need to carry something, I’ll use the Acteon because it’s my smallest truck with a sideboard. Like I just unlocked the Ankh civilian and it seems like a powerful truck with tons of space… but I just don’t need that. There’s all sorts of repair attachments I can’t imagine using. The missions are about navigating tight or treacherous spaces, not hauling or repairing.

Unlocked the mission to unlock access to the volcano. Soon, I will see all of the Carpathians.

I did some googling and stumbled on this fan patch for Snowrunner addressing what sounded like the problem I was having. I renamed the expeditions exe to "snowrunner.exe" then ran this updater on it then switched the name back. It might be too soon to say for sure but I think this actually did fix my issue, haven't had any of that stuttering after an hour or so.

Gonna repost this if you're playing on PC and are seeing inconsistent stuttering (sometimes 1-2 seconds at a time) or you've ever noticed your UI switch to keyboard controls briefly while playing on a controller, seems to do with windows detecting USB device changes and passing that info to the game. I use an xbox controller with the usb receiver, might not be an issue if you're hard wired or using bluetooth. I forgot to apply this again after the update and my game was running like crap until I did this, it's pretty wild how much better this game feels with this patch applied. I always thought this game and by extension Snowrunner were just stuttery as hell games this whole time, I played hundreds of hours of SR dealing with it.

I use the high range gearbox as well. I feel like it's the best gearbox, even if it does get a little annoying switching back and forth when you stop or slow. Better fuel economy and better speed in easy areas is so nice. There are still some missions that are simply too long without bringing extra supplies, especially with bridges to construct, landslides to clear, or trucks to rescue. Especially true before I realized airdrops have fuel in them, of course.

I actually took the Pug scout out in the Carpathians, which is the big tank like scout, and it was better than I thought. Bigger trucks are better than I thought there too overall, since they can just run over all but the largest trees instead of needing to dodge all but the smallest with the Marshall.

Still really enjoying the game. Have a lot of game left, too. I've only unlocked one extra area in the Carpathians and two in Arizona despite playing for quite a few hours.

Xenology is an unnatural mixture of science fiction and formal logic. At its core is a flawed assumption...

that an alien race would be psychologically human.

I've been playing for about 2 hours, and the UI is as bad as the complaints say. However, the overlanding/off-road vacation vibe is superior to the snow/mudrunner hauling vibes, without a doubt. Also it feels really good, enjoyable to have the precision to pick your spot, place your wheel, and crawl up technical terrain. It looks great too, I shall continue playing it.

I personally think so, since larger additions to trucks certainly do. I don't have proof but I think it's very likely given how physics driven the whole game is.

Is it normal for the third map in an area that in the first mission you need to start from the main map, go to the second map entrance, then go to the third map entrance?

I wasted tons of money failing at getting the big truck unstuck in Sonoran desert twice before I finally beat it. And it was just such a long loving mission, didn't understand why I couldn't start in Cocino.

I haven’t got far enough in Arizona to confirm that but in Carpathians, the first map has gates to all three of the others.

I unlocked the Yar and it’s pretty good. Will use instead of the Marshall in plenty of situations but also it’s a bummer that I have next to no upgrades for it. I like that they moved some upgrades to mission rewards and wish they had gone the whole way. Finding them in the world is not particularly fun in either game.

People were taking about the specialist that removes water damage but what I want is the one who lets you put anchors underwater. That is way more powerful. Rivers are one the few things that can totally ruin an expedition. I haven’t unlocked that one yet though.

Just spent a good hour on a Coconino mission, one of the ones where you have to haul that huge seismic thing around and there are no icons, only a distance to number. Got the first, found the second, then I went to install the portable rig and somehow it loving disappeared from my inventory. It won't let you start the mission without them, so where the hell did it go? Is it possible to lose or damage stuff like that?

So frustrating. That was particularly annoying mission, had to move two trucks all over the map because I didn't have one truck that could hold both the seismic and two portable rigs. I guess knowing where they are will be helpful assuming I remember, but man that stings and I basically ragequit.

That sucks and definitely sounds like a bug. That seismic thing blows to haul around because of the hugeass bar on the back that seemingly gets stuck on everything.

Goddamn this game is huge. I feel like I put a ton of hours into it and I am only 19/37 in Carpathians and 10/37 in Arizona. I’ve basically been ignoring contracts and most tasks too.

I just cleared 70k in a dormant volcano mission. Money doesn’t matter beyond the beginning, load up on jacks, anchors, and supplies!

Ohh, that sucks. If it helps, looking at the pre mission map gives an idea of where the seismic spots are.

I got that bug I think you mentioned where the metal locator shows an upgrade that is definitely not there. I decided to verify all upgrade spots on map runner before chasing a ghost next time.

The cargo drone is very nice, but don't try building one with no other modules. Trying to use it locked up my game until I built a warehouse and put a jack in it first.

Once it's working, though, it gives you access to the full base inventory from anywhere on the map. So no more having to bring out a second truck just to share resources.

I was wondering exactly how that worked, the description made it a bit unclear to me. That sounds pretty nice.

Also, unlocked the KRS 58 Bandit but it's very expensive, I'd have to sell the Step to get it. Is it worth it? I see it can take the seismic module so theoretically it could cover the exact same niche as the Step. But the Step going by pure stats seems a bit better?

E: Oh man I just figured out what I did wrong. My other truck was parked where the oil rig was going to go up so it wouldnt let me deliver it. In the middle of the day it was hard to see the orange lines on the orange rock. Of course I ended up doing the whole mission again before I realized but at least I got it figured out. Should've evaluated the situation better because even though you can't see the portable rigs in your inventory, you can see them in the truck trade menu. Plus the deliver screen looked different depending on whether you had a portable rig or not, it just wouldn't let you deliver. A little message like 'Rig site blocked' or something would be pretty nice there, but still pretty much my fault.

I rescued the Tatra FORCE and it was an epic pain in the rear end up there with the best Snowrunner missions. I had to abandon my initial route because it involved a steep hill I was never getting up. The most difficult part wasn't even the trees or rocks, it was navigating those tiny bridges with two big trucks. I used 3.5 full tanks of gas.

Our trucker heroes were in most dire straits at this point:

You can only sell trucks in the garage (triangle on ps5). To make this more confusing, you can't access the truck store from the garage so you have to swap views to buy and sell. I don't have the bandit but I think it can take the seismic attachment... you can see the icon on the store screen. I know what you mean re: expensive. I thought I was beyond money mattering but the Tatra FORCE was 300k! I had to sell the Afim.

Indeed I figured out how to sell trucks, but yeah it's confusing. I'd have to sell the Step to get the Bandit atm but not sure it's worth it. The Step has better base stats, plus I have a lift kit for it where I don't for the Bandit (at least it lets you preview upgrades, that's nice). The Step has been a pretty decent workhorse so I'm loathe to get rid of it but if the Bandit is good poo poo I'd be down.

As for your mission, that looks brutal. There seems to be a bug with some or all bridges where you can keep putting parts into them, at first I was hoping that if you put enough parts in it would make the bridges wider and stronger but nope. Sideways across a bridge with a huge truck hanging off the back by a winch is like the most FUBAR situation I can imagine in this game.

e: Just realized the AFIM can also take the seismic so now I can choose between the three I guess.

Trip report: the Bandit is fantastic for bridging the gaps so common in Arizona due to four sets of wheels. But, due to having two sets of turning wheels the turning radius is absolute garbage. Decent truck overall with good power and towing capacity.

Also I've come to believe that the Acteon with the best tires and a lift kit might actually be the best scout in the game despite not being categorized as such. Easy to take extra fuel and parts, good ground clearance and traction, small enough to navigate right spaces. Especially really long missions it's excellent.

Sure do love to have to restart from the beginning on my way to the final objective because I used a jack in the wrong spot and my tire clipped into the rocks. Coincidentally I had just passed all the fuel from my secondary vehicle over to this one so I didn't have enough to make it in that truck.

Edit: I guess there's buttons to raise/lower the vehicle when using the jack screw that I was missing, will have to make sure to place myself above the ground next time.

I love the Loadstar in Snowrunner, but I've found it disappointing so far in Expeditions. Maybe once I find the lift kit and some better tires for it. My biggest issues are the frame getting stuck on things that all the other trucks breeze by and the back end struggling for traction everywhere in Arizona.

The Actaeon has been a surprise champ. Plenty of power in a footprint not much bigger than a scout.

I hope they have more thorough bug fixes forthcoming because I'm really enjoying the mission structure and moment-to-moment gameplay.

I dragged it south and up onto the ridge with the broken arch over the water, then shoved it off the other side and continued south. After that ridge, I only found one tricky part, where I had to head downhill, make a sharp right and then winch my tow vehicle past a small rock slide that made things tippy. Once you're past that, you've got fairly open ground, it's much easier to take the long way around going east towards the ruined tower.

I really like the format of this game with the expeditions but they biffed it so bad with the jobs and lovely minigames.
