Consulting to check that you're not making some massive blunder due to a blind spot in your relatively small writing team seems sensible to me. A lot of game dev teams are solidly mono-cultural, they might try to be diverse and culturally sensitive but there is a real chance they're going to make some dumb mistake or just be poo poo at it because it's all second hand. AAA studios should probably be able to do that in-house, but you could say that about a lot of niche functions that regularly get outsourced to contractors.

GTA as a series is too baked into public consciousness and beloved by the press for it to fail, but the sheer amount of money it's costing to make and the time left until release could still make it less successful than they hope. They might only make a few billion instead of all of them.

Blackjack doesn't have the player choice and input that poker hands provide, it doesn't feel like I'm making substantial decisions.
