All roguelike deckbuilders are gambling since you're gambling to draw a good card from a deck just like in a casino and I'm glad someone finally had the balls to step up to Big Deckbuilder

I've also been watching deep dives into the Fear & Hunger games and have thoroughly spoiled myself on them and I'm interested in hearing goonpinions on them. There seems some cool body horror which I'm always here for but there's a ton of content that seems edgy for edgy's sake. The series seems insanely mechanically intricate though, how much of it is just edgelord bullshit and how much is actual genuine cosmic horror?

If you've seen the deep dives then you likely know the answer to your questions, but there is some edgelord-feeling stuff, more notably in the first game. It's not all like that, mostly just particular moments here and there with particular enemies or scenes.

Likewise, a lot of the cosmic horror is present in the second title, where a jester-like god from the moon is telling thirteen people to participate in a festival of death. There is some stuff present in the first game, but a lot of it is hidden later and it's more about a real hosed Up place and the things that live in it, versus a regular town that has been burned by the light of the moon.

I've had mostly chill experiences with random folks. The thing that comes up more than tryhard people trying to prevent anyone from having fun is PS5 players who don't realize their controller mic is open and broadcasting every sound their TV and controller makes. It's especially bad when they're using an MG and you get the clackclacks of the controller vibrating.

Half the reason I stopped using lasers is because it felt like my controller was going to vibrate apart whenever I pressed the trigger.

I have a friend who calls stuff like FF7 Remake's performance mode 'unplayable' and holy poo poo I'm glad I'm not like that. Screw having graphical standards, if the game is fun to play I don't care if the textures look muddy when you walk up to them. I grew up with <20 FPS gameplay, with herky-jerky loading as model phased into the world, I don't give a fuuuck anymore

Jesus the Assassin's Creed lore got wild after I stopped paying attention I just wanted to know what was up with Juno

Funnily enough they just X-ed her out in a comic. Like, all this build up and then suddenly Ubisoft got bored and just killed her offscreen.

Chronicles is loving great. Easily my favorite in the series. Herlock Sholmes is awesome.

My only complaint with Chronicles was just how much...I don't know what it's called, but there was never a straightforward line of dialogue. Naruhodo would point something out, and his assistant would make a quip, then he'd reply, and she'd make a jokey comment, and he'd be like "wuhhh" and she'd giggle and he'd lament his situation or something. Or it's be like that in court, or while with the little Herlock girl assistant, or whatever.

I know the other games have a similar dynamic, but I just found it far more common in Chronicles, and it became exhausting. I put the game down halfway through the second case of part 2 for a while as a result.

Oh yeah also Soseki Natsume is the most irritating poo poo and when he showed up the second time I groaned out loud. I would've rather let him be declared guilty.

I think there's something very interesting about being able to tell a story twice after a couple decades of retrospective. Being able to say "Well, when we made the game before we wanted this story beat here, but really in retrospect if we put it here, we can emphasize the relationship of these characters while adding a bit of a pause in the pacing between-" is something I bet a ton of game developers would love to do.

I recently picked ToTK back up after putting it down for half a year or so and man, it's so refreshing. Running around doing all the things I was starting to get a little burned out on, finding more treasures and exploring the depths more is so fun.

Hah, never knew Dvorak's New World Symphony was in that game. It's such a good piece.

Does Unicorn Overlord allow for any sort of grinding? I do like me some strategy but sometimes I just want to forgo any real deep strategy and steamroll the opposition.

E: There's also a New Game+ system, and a guide I looked at just now claims you can't get all Augments on your first run no matter what. Apparently, characters' stat gains at high levels (like 70+) depend on what abilities they have actively equipped when they level up, like Espers in FF6, so if you want to 100% the game by maxing everyone's stats and getting all the Augments there's a really specific guide you need to follow. But if you just want to get through the story, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just try to give two Augments to characters whose abilities seem useful, so that you'll get all three of theirs in return.

Yeah except you can only do NG+ twice. Which is, like, why make that limitation?

"to cap" means lying/exaggerating, so "no cap" is basically the same as saying like "no fooling" or "no joke"

Apparently 'cap' is another word for 'lie'.

I'll be honest if I saw someone about to launch a meteor at me I'd probably jump off a cliff too. Least I'd have a chance of surviving that.
