Does Unicorn Overlord allow for any sort of grinding? I do like me some strategy but sometimes I just want to forgo any real deep strategy and steamroll the opposition.

Yeah, each region has a few grinding maps you can repeat as much as you want.

If you want to get some of the most powerful abilities in the game for your final party to use, you need to feed early useful abilities to lovely characters that are going to die and take those abilities with them, so that you can get their worse abilities and feed them to good characters that don't need them, so that when THEY die, etc. You don't stand much chance of figuring that out without a guide.

I’ve never played FF4 DS - how does it work out if you go in blind (but know that, yes, you should give augments to everybody, even the characters that you know are going to die). Would you still end up with junk? Or would you have endgame abilities, just maybe not the optimal ones you’d choose if you could pick anything you wanted?

Yeah, for sure, getting to the credits just takes thoughtful play and understanding your options in battle, the tedious spreadsheet following is not at all required unless you're a dedicated achievement hunter.

Yeah, I just wasn't sure whether it was "You need a guide (because the game never tells you that you should give your permanent upgrades to temporary party members)" or "You need a guide (because you need to give Skill A to Porom and Skill B to Edward and Skill C to Young Rydia, and if you do it differently you won't get The Good Stuff)"

I was introduced to the series with Dragon Warrior Monsters on gameboy and was both confused and offended when Nintendo Power was talking about some Dragon Warrior game where you play as a human with a sword the whole time and go around killing all the monsters.

Video games are art. They have been ever since Bioshock Infinite.

in DD2 the breadth of the simulation seems to be a pillar of the game's design, not just something that looks pretty

I haven't been following Dagon's Drogma 2, are there any big features it's doing that the npcs couldn't do in 1, or is it just the usual thing where software developers' ability to use resources is unbounded.

You know who else thought having a high frame rate was really important, and was saddened when publishers valued flashy 3d effects over providing a better framerate? Roger Ebert. The facts are clear: Video Games can only be Art if they have a high framerate.

I've been in the mood for a game that tells a mature and compelling story set in early 16th century Bavaria. I had been considering Pentiment, but these gifs make it clear that's it's some sort of wacky comedy game, obviously not what I'm looking for at all. I'll have to keep searching.
