Im having a blast with this 4 hours in, it's got the good jank feeling that The Witcher 1 had on launch, reinforced by the extremely wide range of voice acting quality. the music is fantastic, really appreciate the variety on display from track to track

the click when you use perception is such a satisfying noise

You don't really DO anything but follow along like you're watching a movie.

this is my main complaint about the game about 15~ hours in, maybe halfway iunto act 2. it does seem like you can change peoples' reactions to you and maybe get some different outcomes depending on if you are an rear end in a top hat or a half decent human, but generally youre just clicking the next button like it's a visual novel with some extra steps.

I had been enjoying the combat on Challenging for most of that 15 hours but thje combat is just sooooo drawn out and gets so tedious, so I bumped it down to story to just cruise through the rest of things. I had not had a fight where I felt like I was in danger in hours but I have had a dozen fights where I said "please can this just end"

complaints out of the way, the story is very compelling; the characters are all well written; the world is very well built with a lot of good lore all over the place. the interactions feel good and the choices I get to make feel like I am actually roleplaying as a certain type of dude. game is good

My problem with the game is that it feels like it's one core mechanic short of being of good.

The investigation aspect feels pretty since you're just basically right clicking until things appear and then you collect all of the things. Kind of like Witcher 3's witcher sense things but with a bit more feedback.

Combat is alright, though having enemies with traits from spirits you couldn't have possibly unlocked yet feels pretty lame.

However the lack of an equipment system, meaningful inventory, or really any other kind of systems honestly makes this game feel kind of shallow. Which is normally the opposite of what I expect from my Eurojank. The result is that the game feels really badly paced. Although the game has no random encounters, it honestly throws tons of meaningless encounters at you with random no name mooks, because it literally has no other ways to interact with the player outside of just dialog.

Also I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of Polish/Russian VA given where the game takes its setting. Some of the casting choices are pretty weird as well, I had a genuine WTF moment when I heard a Southern drawl from a character allegedly in Eastern Europe.

I agree that it really needs one more Thing to do, it really should have been something in the investigations - the first time the "Draw Conclusions" prompt came up, I was hoping there would be some kind of interaction I'd have to do to actually come to an answer since the rest of the game is so light on actual engagement

idk if any of you have run into the Albuquerque character beyond your initial meeting, you can run into him in one of the new areas in act 2 and end up fighting some dudes on his behalf and he makes a joke about needing to get to Albuquerque so that he can meet up with "Walter Pinkman," so at least as of act 2 the whole character is just there to be a dumb Breaking Bad reference and that soured me on his presence. I'm not opposed to the idea of an American character with a southern accent having wound up in 1905 Warsaw, but the execution and reason for him being there was very bad. there have been a few other American accents but he's the only one that really stood out as bad

I finished my first playthrough today and the build from the last part of act 2 through the end is very good. it felt rewarding to see all of my decisions (even the bad ones) come to a head in the ending. still feel it needed another gameplay element to really keep it engaging

looking at everything, my completion was probably around 85-90%. I did every quest I could find except for 2 that both ran out of quest markers at all times of day and so just decided to move on to the final quests of act 2 and progress everything. there was also a fight where I was coming to the honor of some of the brothel girls, where every time I triggered it the game would cut to black and stay there endlessly, and it seems like that may have led to a quest also. I was missing two Flaws in the end

I am pretty interested in a second playthrough to do the opposite of what I did and see how it all plays out. first playthrough was very high pride, mostly did things for Myself but also (very end of game spoilers) wishy-washily siding with Rasputin and ignoring most of the red flags leading up the climax

e: oh and Abaurycy's whole arc is really great, loved every time he showed up
