I bounced right off Dragon's Dogma when I tried to play it recently, but the concept of the game is so strong and everything I've seen for 2 still somehow has me unbelievably hyped.

I never played beyond one disastrous first attempted campaign with one player who just insisted on insulting and trying to kill every single person we met, but my uncle had gifted me his old players handbook, monster guide etc and I used to just devour the content, and that image of the guy facing off with the dragon is burned into my brain.

Do you have to have a particular base vocation to unlock a particular player-only one? I used the character creator and wanted to make a Mystic Spearhand, and made her an archer since the main pawn I was making was going to be a fighter, and I don't want to find out I locked myself out of what I wanted to do like 10-15 hours in or something.

This game loving rules, it captured me almost immediately which was a relief since the first game didn't. Had to force myself to stop playing after... Jesus Christ, 7 hours? loving hell.

Only weird thing I've experienced so far was a bunch of guys I thought were bandits attacked me but they were much better dressed. Once I'd killed them all, I noticed they all had ??? titles and there was an option to resuscitate what I assume was their leader? So I did and he was all pissed at me but also no longer hostile. I haven't encountered friendly fire or npcs turning hostile otherwise, so that was confusing.

Toughest fight so far (that I won) was against an ogre, and man that was so loving cool finally getting him down and having my main player mystic spearhand just plunging their weapon over and over again into it's neck till it stopped moving. Game rules so much.

Played for about 13 hours so far, it hasn't gotten old yet, there is a still a ton of map to explore, I keep running into new things of interest, new quests, new enemy types etc, everything about the game is just firing on all cylinders for me. Also:

A male and female NPC at the main town inn suddenly decided to start just beating the utter poo poo out of each other for like 1 minute straight up on the stage where the lady plays her songs. What passes for entertainment nowadays!

Eventually they just kind of stopped, went,"I wonder what I should do now?" and went back to milling around in the inn.

In much more frustrating news, I took on a griffon, got it right down near death and then got dropped to the ground and despite appearing to still have health the game just went,"Oh too bad, you died, wanna load your last save?" - I tried the fight again and knocked down one pip on its life bar, but then it just flew away :argh:

In much more wholesome news, during another fight I got flung through the air and my main pawn caught me in his arms and went,"Good thing I was here, huh?" :swoon:

Game's good. Haven't found the Trickster trainer yet but did unlock Mystic Spearhand. Not vibing with it too much honestly. It's flashy and cool but I might just go back to Thief until Trickster. Feels like it murderizes things much better.

I'm trying out different vocations so I just don't end up doing the same thing for the entire game, but man Warrior seems so slow compared to Mystic Spearhand. On the plus side, a minotaur sat on me and it did practically zero HP damage and I'm able to turn myself into a springboard for my pawns to bounce up and stab it in the loving eye. Swings and roundabouts.

I both liked and hated warrior, doing giant hits to stagger big enemies was very fun but it sucked having the slowest attack speed out of anything in the game and just getting exhausted and bounced around too much im trying out spearhand and it seems pretty effective but i miss doing the big hits

Got warrior up to level 7 and finally had enough and switched to Archer because it was just so slow. Turned my main pawn from a maxed out fighter to a babby Warrior and he's much, much better at it than I was. Mystic Spearhand has been my favorite so far though, getting to toss the whole party behind forcefields, use telekinesis to turn enemies into weapons, and that speed skid/teleport was so much fun.

Ran into a drake in the middle of the night while trying to level up new vocations for me and my main pawn. Turned into an absolute shitstorm but we managed to get it down to 2 pips of health left and I was starting to feel we'd worked out a good rotation of attacks to keep it on the back foot... and a loving Griffon flew by and went,"Oh poo poo I have GOT to get in on that action!" and that lead to a horrific series of midadventures that left me dead and having to reload my old save :gonk:

Anyway, later I went to the griffon's house and beat the poo poo out of him to teach him a lesson :colbert:

Just had a cart trip that pitted me against a group of hobgoblins, a pack of wolves, a griffon, an ogre and a flock of harpies at the same time and I don't think I saw any in-fighting at all.

I will see them fight among each other if I'm not close enough for them to notice the party, but the moment they do they all seem to do the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Carl Weathers handshake and team up to fight me. :smith:

Had to take a little break but back into playing now and I arrived in the desert city with the entire party including myself mostly walking dead, but I had also finally maxed out Archer on top of Mystic Spearman, so I decided to switch vocation to Thief and change my maxed barbarian pawn (also maxed out Fighter) to archer to take advantage of the gear and skills before walking to the inn to have a sleep.

Every. single. step. I took people ran up to me to declare something needed IMMEDIATE attention and when I finally dragged myself to the inn another cutscene of a guy popped up to say,"Hey, you can't drink at this tavern... unless you can beat these three guys in a handicap brawl!"

I didn't even want to drink at the tavern!

Luckily I had already unlocked the Maister skill for Thief so despite having zero experience I was able to make myself untouchable and just go ham on them... at which point ANOTHER cutscene popped up of a guy showing up and going,"Hey! This is unfair, I'll step in to fight with you!" and then he... disappeared and was nowhere to be seen as I had to fight ANOTHER guy who was now fully healed. I beat him too, ANOTHER cutscene happened of the tavern dude going,"AHHH! The other guy who showed up and didn't do anything is too strong, let's leave alone this weakling who just beat up four dudes by herself without being touched once, she got lucky!" and then the dude showed up again and said,"Now now, no need to thank me, maybe you could have handled it yourself without me... maybe. Pray we don't meet as enemies one day!"

He didn't do anything! Anyway, then I went to bed.
