It was something like fifteen years later after it came out when it finally occurred to me this song is about a phone call in which the girl suspects her boyfriend on the other line is in the presence of his mistress due to the fact that he is conspicuously avoiding saying her name in their conversation. I don't know what I thought it was about beforehand, I never really gave it any thought. (I mean of course I knew it was about a shady boyfriend, which seemed to be what every Destiny's Child song at the time was about, but I didn't realize it was depicting such a specific scenario).
