So Firefox and Chrome would have still ended up winning market share if Microsoft had been allowed to force default IE forever on Windows, have it redefaulted without user input, have desktop shortcuts regularly automatically reordered to only have IE there, and made it impossible to develop a browser using the same OS level connections (APIs as defined in the settlement)? It's not like they wouldn't have done all those things.. Apple did exactly that with Safari and WebKit. I can definitely see the issue with getting a settlement at all due to there being a second player in mobile OSes, but surely these measures would be good for customers, I don't see how they wouldn't be.
