The TV people are like a quasi-legal entity so don't get paid on commission, but they would still need a court warrant to be able to enter any property without permission. Where a police officer could walk past a window and see a person inside committing a serious crime and use that as a grounds for legal entry, The TV license authority couldn't see you watching TV and demand you open the door and speak to them.

A coordinated violent attempt at thwarting a legitimately elected government from taking power after a free and fair election isn't a coup?

Eat poo poo.

Edit: here's the Meriam Webster definition.

"a sudden decisive exercise of force in politics and especially the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government by a small group."

So I guess "attempted coup" would be more accurate.

ok the ronnie dobbs catchline brought me in so I'll share my experience of 'where this came from'

the first time i was introduced was through a canadian weeed forum (oG) around 2005ish

it was like a 30 minute video (that took 2 hours to download cause streaming like that wasn't around at that point yet, so you had to be more invested in the bandwidth and time you just spent) of a canadian dude smoking a blunt in a park and getting let off the hook by filibustering some park cop who was mostly responding to complaints about the smell. Canada blunt man kept repeating about how he was a free man on the land and had a mostly civil conversation with the rookie cop challenging him the whole time while he finished his blunt. If you lived in the US and were watching this it was a mindblower cause the cops were not pulling guns and restraining and being aggro. I remember being ready to have my mind blown, and although the blunt guy didn't leave in handcuffs, it was immediately apparent to me who the minority cool and good people were in the forum cause they called it out for the bullshit it was and begged people not to try this bullshit and just lay low. From what i remember there were a few more posts but it died out of that culture pretty quickly, and i'm sure the people that were vouching for it were also posting 911 truth poo poo (when it was still mostly pretty innocent hyperbole)

seriously if you havent seen "run ronnie run" yet just do it

Uhhhhhhhhh, this is a very stupid position to take.

My position is simple enough. There was no way the events of June 6th could have led to Trump remaining president. If those young women bravely carrying the Ballot Box away were waylaid in the ballots burned, it wouldnt change the vote. If the rioters had captured Mike Pence to prevent him from certifying the vote it would only delay the ritual and not the facts of power transfer. If after Babbitt was shot instead of scattering like spooked horses those nearby had rushed the room and took hostage whoever was in there alot more blood would be shed, but the hostage takers wouldnt get their orange daddy re-elected.

The coercive arms of the state apparatus were not mobilized (police, military, intelligence agencies) and the owners of the means of production did not want a disruption to the very favorable order of things.

Could you explain how Jan 6 would have lead to a successful Trump autogolpe works in your mind. A=>B=>C?

Oh you're so wrong. Do you work at a place where people play the radio? You need a special license for that. Why? Well because music makes employees work harder or something. This was an actual legal argument that the UK court accepted.

You usually need to get a licence if you:

Roughly ten years ago these vampires started calling where I work. At first I thought it was some weird scam so I just told them to gently caress off over and over and hung up on them.

Then they started sending letters to us which I tossed. Finally the owner heard about it because they were contacting everyone on the Industrial park about it. I think everyone else ignored it but the owner here is a real by the books kind of guy and actually paid it. They continued to harass us with phone calls and letters for about six months before they finally stopped (yes six months after we paid their stupid fee). And it renews every year.

Because the guys in the back room listen to the radio while they're working.

Edit: oh I should add the only reason the harassment stopped was because we went to a website to register we had bought the license and leave us alone. You had to opt out of getting constantly called even after you paid them.

The original question was whether or not my use of the word 'coup' was an appropriate choice to describe that day. (I should have said "attempted coup" I guess.) Here's the dictionary definition again.

You are moving the goal posts asking for explanation of their strategy. Just because you think the effort never would have worked doesn't mean it didn't happen.
